There are MUCH better jumping off points for a first time Death Grips listener, but I'm stoked to see this song on the channel. Like the requester, this too is my favorite song. I waffle on a lot of stuff about the music I like, favorite genres, favorite artists, etc. But this song got me through my worst moments in life and some really horrible places. Edit On the subject of your personal taste: if you're not clicking with punk music, there's a very good chance you will not enjoy most of Death Grips' music.

hell yeah my favourite song of all time, i suggested this song because its the most punkish/metal song theyve done. if you ever want to react to them again (lol) then maybe something off of the money store or bottomless pit albums you might like. or you might enjoy the live version of guillotine (at the fun fun fun fest) because zach hill has a killer drum solo in that video

On GP is very much a song about suicidal ideation. He talks about his most recent purchase being a black rope and meeting death on his front porch. "On GP" for this song means "on general principle." Stefan chooses not to end his life daily because of his friends and family, how they wouldn't understand. They are the only thing stopping him, he doesn't go through with his thoughts "on GP." I'm sure you could dig deeper but that's the general idea.

For me the vocals were also the hardest thing to get into at first, but I liked the crazy production/drumming. After awhile i got used to his voice and appreciated the energy he brings. Try listening to Takyon maybe if you like Guillotine, it's from the same album and one of the first ones that fully clicked for me

That box they are sitting in is an echo chamber. Would be wild to hear this song in there at full blast

The guitarist on this song is Nick Reinhart from math rock band Tera Melos! I feel you’d dig the crazy guitar work in their music!

ride is very hard to understand and the vocals are definitely make or break for people, but once it clicks it clicks hard. I'd recommend something like streaky or eh for beginners. Most dg lyrics are very cryptic and impossible to fully comprehend just by reading them, but this one is comparatively straight forward. It's about apathy towards life, ride says that he doesn't feel any attachment to life and in his world view, if it wasn't for the pain it would cause to his loved ones, he'd end his own on general principle. Basically, superficial material rewards aren't enough for him to outweigh the negatives. The video reflects that as it's the band just sitting in front of a speaker playing this loud and emotional song they made and it doesn't face them at all.
