I can barely get Misirlou with my thumb alternate picking like this, but the blisters aren't fun 😅 I totally getcha with the length. Vibes-y and drone-y aren't far apart. The only other index finger playing like this I've seen is sitar players, but they use a mezrab, which is an iron or brass wire wrapped over the fingertip. Saves the fingernails at least. Banjo picks work for fingerstyle too, but they only pick in one direction. The language here is Tamasheq from parts of North Africa. The only translation I can find says: "Love is sweet but take care, It's difficult to maintain. It demands much respect and lots of patience. There is a false love and it is always accompanied by a lie and it will end in treason. There is a true love and it is always accompanied with respect and pity." Just checked out Mahal, that was pretty sick. We're both from Melbourne, so I'll keep an eye out for a live show (next one's sold out :/)
