Or you can just use Everclear - almost pure ethanol works well too. In fact, the Nazi V2 ballistic missile used a 75% ethanol-water mixture (which is even less than the 95% of Everclear), and they ended up having to add some poisons to the fuel because the soldiers kept drinking the rocket fuel, LMAO.

If you put the cap back on and drill a small hole in the cap. You get a much better thrust

I used a washing machine hose screwed to the 2 lt bottle. I put gas in the bottle and lit the hose end where the fuel vapor came out. Was like a flamethrower/light

We did that as kids just spraying hair lacquer inside the bottle. Way "safer" as it was only gas. Fun as heck.

In Vietnam we had to used lark V crafts connected side by side forming a bridge to transport jet fuel from a ship. There was a vapor leak in the hole connection. The frames went into the engines of several crafts. The explosion 💥

I did try something close to this at home when I was 14 or so. Glass bottle, but sitting upright and a touch of gasoline sloshed inside. Got a awesome wosh sound with a jet shooting of fire coming out the top. Burned my right eyebrow clear off and singed some hair. :D

I saw a guy try this at the local snake-pit using a recently emptied Wild Turkey bottle. The bottle exploded like a grenade spraying broken glass everywhere.

Second grade's about when I was doing it... First unsupervised, then with instruction, guidance, and better safety. Go for it, but make sure to give the (elementary) physics/chemistry lesson before-hand, so that you can have a great discussion about what happened and why. You might just inspire a future aerospace engineer or astrophysicist with this. It worked that way for me!

Upright is a little safer and don't use anything more flammable than rubbing alcohol. Also, a rubber cork with two holes in it is impressive - just aim it away from you and everyone else. Things really get exciting as the bottle warms up vaporizing the (hopefully) small amount of alcohol you put in there.

You can also just spray alcohol inside the bottle, that way there's no residue fuel inside..
