NASA’s PREFIRE mission, short for Polar Radiant Energy in the Far-InfraRed Experiment, is tasked with measuring heat loss from both the Arctic and Antarctica, in an aim to help researchers better understand Earth’s energy budget.
The Arctic and Antarctic help to regulate Earth’s climate by radiating a lot of the heat initially absorbed at the tropics back into space. But for regions like the Arctic, about 60% of that heat escapes to space in the form of farinfrared wavelengths that haven’t been systematically measured.
Changes at Earth’s poles can influence global weather patterns and affect sea level rise. The climate data collected by PREFIRE will help to provide a more accurate read of the future of some of Earth’s coldest, most remote regions - and in turn, the future of our planet

This was streamed with a 4 minute delay. We went to the beach at Gisborne Mad Mile to watch with the "live" commentary running on our tablet hotspspotted from my phone. At T - 00:04:00 approx we saw a bright red light accend from the southern horizon in a slow arc upwards and to our left.

Great dedication. I just walk out the door on to my front lawn and look to the East. It is hard to spot, so you got a great view. The wind has to be blowing towards me to here a faint noise. Love our 'little' Electron Rocket 💖

Your phone will slowly delay itself on KZbin as the stream plays. The delay is especially longer the longer you have KZbin open and the more youre doing on your device at the same time. When i go to see launches in person i refresh the entire app every minute. And even then there will be about a 10-20 sec delay.
