If you're out of range of the ball/player, your plunger/boot/grapple/freeze/etc would NOT activate immediately, it would only activate once it locks to a target. The only things that would always be instant are spikes(and you could still drive), boomer(and you could still drive), and teleport(assuming you are facing abother player)

Love the recharging idea. How about, similar to how dropshot boost regenerates, every time you move you use boost and you have to stop to "recharge" your car! Haha

Another version of this would be cool - where you can only use boost to drive. No boost pads on the map, but the boost recharges like in dropshot. So as you use boost, it goes down to 0, then you can't drive until the boost starts to refill again

Here's an idea. The same thing, but with boost. Essentially, it's a recharging boost and if you run out you can't move until it's full again. You can make it more challenging by taking away boost pads, or leave them in for faster paced action
