So two things - I was at this concert (in Ephesus, Turkey - I think it was 2000/2001). I was either 15 or 16 (almost 40 now OMG) and was OBSESSED with Elton. My family used to go on an international vacation once a year and that year I remember reading in Rolling Stone Magazine that Elton would be doing two nights at The Great Amphitheater behind The BeeGees. My parents were nice enough to switch from going from Ireland to Turkey for me to see this. The amphitheater is in the middle of a desert and I swear to god the stars at night are unlike anything you’ve ever seen. Most of the audience that night were oddly enough Americans and Italians and I remember being so let down with the crowd. It had been 30 years since Elton had done a night with just him and the piano and I was so excited I was crying on the way there. The audience was just so … boring. I was walking around checking pulses. It was wickedly hot that night and the show started two hours late (it was one of the first concerts in history to be streamed online) and they kept having trouble with their satellite office bus connecting. Every little bit though Elton would talk to us through the intercom system. He would say funny stuff like “it’s taking me longer than thought to get this goddamn wig on” and stuff like that. But I will NEVER forget that night
