How To Get Good - Play With Confidence

A lot of people struggle with confidence and in my opinion it's because they're not being confident about the right thing. It's not about getting the result you want, it's about accepting the result you get and then building off that. You just keep going.
Hope this can help a lot of people get a better sense of how they should be going about playing and life.
As mentioned in the video...

For most people stuck in a dark place, its not so much the lack of motivation to get out, as it is a lack of tools to do so. This video covers those tools. Pay attention, and re-watch it often. Messages like this dont stick the first time around, keep coming back to it.

People define themselves too strictly. It's important to not be limited by your idea of yourself. Always look for opportunities to be more.

I’ve gamed my whole life to escape reality. I have had a speech pediment my whole life and when i was young i hated talking to people because i would have to repeat myself over and over again. I took 7 years of speech therapy to help me speak better and they helped... kinda i guess, nothing to be amazed by but enough so i dont have to repeat myself. In gaming i could just do whatever i wanted and nobody talked to me. I got into online gaming at about age 10 and was extremely competitive and good at gaming because i didnt do sports, hangout with friends, or do anything like that so i had plenty of time to practice. I was happy because i had a skill that was true to me. When i got a mic i was made fun of again but it never bothered me, but when someone asked me to repeat myself i would get pissed. Someone could cuss me out and say i didn’t belong and i wouldnt care but the second someone mentioned my voice or said, “what did you say” it hurt me. I then though that if i got better and better my voice would be less and less of my defining trait. I began trying to play better everyday. If i died more than my kills i would just use my failures to fuel my inner fire. I then became the guy my friends would invite if they wanted a win. Popular kids at my school began knowing my gaming skills and began respecting me more due to me helping them get wins. Sense my generation is tech based i was ahead of them and i felt good. Now i haven’t stopped gaming and i will never stop gaming, i am still sometimes made fun of by my voice but gaming has made it a bearable part of my life. Gaming has shaped my life and im happy with that.

Just curious, have you tried learning to rap and sing? I didn't talk for years so basically lost my voice, it was so weak. Rapping really helped get some strength into it. Also I've heard it has helped a lot of people who struggle with talking. Might be worth looking into! Either way, thanks for sharing your story, best of luck in the future!

Hey Zy, I’m not sure if you’ll see this but I wanted to say it anyway. I allowed other people to influence my opinion about you as a person (r/mousereview specifically as well as some other gaming communities) and I guess I wanted to apologize for that. This video came at a really good time- I’ve been stuck in limbo for a while now, both with gaming and with my life in general. I really appreciate that you took the time to make this video as it really made me think about a lot of things. I also went to your other channel, and the video about depression/Chester moved me to tears. I know this sounds pretty cringey, but I just wanted to thank you for reminding me that I’m not alone, and that if I fight the good fight that happiness really isn’t such an unobtainable goal. So, again, thank you.

I think you deserve a lot of credit for mentioning being inclined to "hide in gaming" when something went wrong in your life, and giving some very pratical tips about dealing with being different and coping with challenges in life along the way. It's honest, very transparant and it's an example to others that it's OK to admit this occurs. Gaming often gets a lot of negative press, but it can actually be a sort of therapy and at least a way to vent stress, as long as it doesn't lead to chronic isolation. Great video, great example.

This is so true. For years, I used to struggle with results...trying to control what other people do, but I realized that the world is like the Wild West. Everyone can do whatever they want, good or bad, and we have no control over any of it. The best we can do is to accept these things...accept that we have no control over anyone, even ourselves sometimes. Try to improve and better our lives to enjoy the journey. It doesn't matter how much better some other person is compared to us, what matters is how much better we are compared to who we were a month ago, a year ago, etc.

This is so true. A lot of people crack under pressure and it's because their confidence is so low that they get intimidated easily and anticipate failure, which they are scared of (because it would reaffirm their insecurity.) Having confidence is key to success in those situations. It's not being cocky or reckless, but rather just trying something without putting hard expectations on yourself, knowing that you'll be fine no matter what happens.

Another GREAT technique is to ask questions rather than making statements. This applies for *everything in life.* When you make statements, you close your mind. But when you ask questions, your whole mind and brain works towards that question. For example, don't say: "i am so bad at this game". Ask yourself: "how can i become better at this game?" *EVERYTHING IN LIFE!!*

I actually got more confident by not expecting A results. Where I used to work for a social year, every second I worried about what my colleagues think of me. I always felt like I did my job right but it always felt like they still didn't seem to see that and and no matter what I did, I couldn't change what they think of me and it made me frustrated. I always thought of something to prove myself, to change their minds, always wanted that everybody liked me but that's just impossible and I realized that in some stage. I then thought, why would I care what they think of me, if I can't change it anyway. If there's no solution to a problem then I shouldn't worry about it because there's nothing I can do, just drop it and let it be. Just wanted to say that a different mindset can help a lot, if it is confidence, rage or anything really.

To me, this video felt like sitting in a class being taught things you already know, but I don’t say that in a negative way. I’m 24 now and this video hearkens back to all those times as a kid when I didn’t know how to deal with my emotions playing sports. Day by day I think I just accept it as inherent knowledge that I’ve gained, but this video induced a retrospection that really made me think about exactly what changed through the years. I believe you hit the nail on the head Zy, confidence is the first key to wellbeing. It carries us through the bad games just as much, if not more, than the good ones. As kids we rarely have the foresight to see past the moment at hand, but having time on our side is a wonderful tool. Patience is a virtue, and it pays out catalytically

Since the first time I heard one of these motivational and how to move forward in life/gaming videos, I knew I would follow this channel. I can totally relate to these types of bad thoughts and bad habits when losing. The focus is on the journey, the will to keep moving forward, to advance and to grow. We all get shattered in some way at some point, but we have to pick up the pieces together and move forward. Being mentally stuck in shackles until we break free and create who we want to be. There is so much unnecessary frustration today with sky-high expectations instead of being more realistic and focus on moving forward. Creating your path and achieving your dreams is not a sudden thing, it's something that takes time to achieve and succeed with. Yet again another wonderful video! Thanks, Zy! ;]

Thank you for this video, I'm trying to get rid of my depression (and self-hate/doubt), and this kind of content helps immensely. This video is like... something I subconsciously know, I just needed to be told about it so I actually realise it; It all makes sense.

Great video!! My dream is to pursue gaming for a living, but my parents think that gaming isn’t even a career. I am very good at Fortnite and even qualified for some tournaments. My parents just don’t except the fact that gaming is a good career and you just need to have a balance to stay healthy.

As a boxer I relate to this as everytime I win a match it’s usually me pushing through by thinking that I’ll disappoint and not for myself and this little pep talk really punched me in the gut. For a gaming channel you’re really just pressuring healthy habits

Listen man your videos make A LOT of sense and i just realized that it's hard to focus on what you're saying most of the time because i'm more MEMORIZED by you playing Quake and i zone out from what you're saying

I felt that, went through a lot of questioning about myself, one thing I would say is that there's absolutely nothing wrong being an introvert or being different, there's big advantages I wouldn't trade it for anything, it's ok if you're not social, it's ok if you like to do your own thing. Understand the strength you have, know your flaws to work around them and don't let the society dictate who you should be.

you inspired me so hard, I was always an angry player tilting both me and my team mates. Recently i started looking more at my self and why I am bad at certain things in games. I think also that i funneled anger and stress from real life situations into the game i played instead of using my game as a way to have fun and forget about them. I know i am not perfect but i didn't strive to be better and always blamed team mates for when things went south. Recently i came up more and decided i didn't want to be that person and became more positive this video just embodies everything that i was and everything i want to be now that i am not that anymore.

A video that talks about having confidence, on a channel that mainly reviews gaming mice, is the one that's got me to subscribe to you. Not your mice reviews. Imagine that. It's not that your mice reviews are bad. They're actually perfect, IMO (Been watching and following for a few months). It's just that.... This one really touched me. Thank you for this, Zy. Keep the videos coming!
