Easily my biggest mistake and biggest let down will be the Harley Davidson Street 750. I was shattered by the time I got home from the dealership. It became an instant, brand new project bike. There were no brakes! Anyways, over the next 3 years, I tore into the bike and fixed it. Rode it for another two. Sold it to a friend who still loves it. I have to be honest the bike is prettier than my v Strom 650 and it's a bit lighter too. Other than that, it was a dull bike, not so comfortable and the worst part was, the bike was so underpowered. For the price, might as well buy the triumph speed 400 which is more nimble, comfortable and beautiful (subjective). But doesn't really matter as long as he is happy with RE. I purchased the T120 Bonneville and found the 80 HP more then I needed and the ergonomics better suited to my physical size and budget. Would I like 15 more HP in my standard T120? Possibly, but I would never use it. I like the fact that the 80HP rating might be considered less stress on the engine and producing less heat. The Speed Twin just wouldn’t have been a better fit for my needs. I’m delighted that Triumph provides buyers with such a wide range of choices on which to enjoy the 1200 cc engine.

Ironic, I know. Because that CB750 is supposed to be all that and a bag of chips. But. Where do I start? Worst handling bike I've ridden. The center of gravity is sloshing somewhere around in the gas tank. I literally had to sit up on top of the bike, turn the handlebars, and "steer" the thing around corners like I was driving a bus. Second, the shifting is notchy, as in, it needs to almost be jammed into gear with a powerful almost uncomfortable toe thrust, and you are rewarded with a heavy industrial sounding "pa-CLINK!". Third, and my apologies to the throngs who think that the CB750 was some kind of 1970s superbike, but it's slow. I think because it weighs so much. It more like "gathers up speed" than truly accelerates. Go ahead, give it full throttle in low gear. You'll never feel physics trying to pull you off the back of the bike. Yes, the CB750 was reliable and always started. Have fun though, when it comes time to clean and sync those 4 carbs

A google search revealed that BMW have known about the TFT theft problem on their bikes for 2 years and done nothing about it. Worse still, customers are provided with no warning at the point of purchase and therefore have no opportunity to buy one of the very cheap after market fixes which protect the screen. When I complained the only response from the central London dealer was that they are “not responsible for thefts in the London area” and that they are not permitted to recommend non BMW parts to customers!. New to the channel, nicely presented. For what it's worth I was also after a mile munching adventure style bike to tour on, and opted for the Kawasaki Versys 1000. As with all bikes there are a lot of pros and few cons but it's comfortable (including decent wind protection), nimble and the 1000 in-line 4 I just love. One thing nobody ever mentions is reliability, check any report and it's ALWAYS Yamaha, Honda, Kawasaki and Suzuki in the top 4 slots and KTM, BMW and Ducati way down the field, so you're paying a premium price for it to go wrong more often which will cost you more to repair. Still, as long as you get a nice coffee and maybe even a biscuit while you're waiting in their luxurious lounge I guess it's worth it.....?? :0)
@RocketMan_Moto Жыл бұрын
Thanks for that, Tom. Most journalists seem to agree that the Versys 1000 is the one to go for, but I would really like a smidge of off-road ability, too. Something like the Tiger 900, or possibly the upcoming Transalp?😊

I like the T120 because it looks way more retro to me, the wheels and upswept pipes on the speed twin are deal breakers for me. BMW= Buy More Wankers, Though I did have a late 1940's/ early 1950's BMW r50 which I rode from the west to east coast of the US more times than I can remember 15 years of riding that tractor without a glitch or hitch, For me all newer bikes are beyond ugly in appearance, overthought, overpriced, over engineered. In my mid 70s now I've had at the very least 100 motos in my life , Scooters to Baggers enjoy them all. For style or curb appeal bikes built from the 1930's to the early 1960's catch my eye, Enjoyed my 1937 knucklehead, 1953 Panhead, and a couple Indians I owned when I was a teenager. Mid 60's Moto Guzzi Ambassador, & the R50 BMW, were the peak of reliability back in the day, AJS, Matchless, BSA, Norton and smaller Triumph cub & BSA 200cc and Ducati desmo 250 thumpers were also a lot of fun. Honda step thru 50cc, & 90cc, Vespa, Lambretta and Cushman scooters always made me smile.. Evolving into modern times I had a slew of 1999 year model bikes. The '99 Sv650s, '99 Kawasaki Drifter 800cc (Indian tribute bike) was unique & beautiful, but the 1500cc kata Drifter was an oversized clumsy oaf , POS of a bike., Kawasaki W650/ triumph bonnie copy, '2000 CBR 600rr & the 1999 unrestricted Hayabusa were a nice sport touring bikes if you enjoy speed. As far as worst bikes I remember, 60'sBenelli 2 stroke, Rabbit scooter, '68 Honda 250 & 305, '57 BSA a-10, and most anything made by Yamaha has always gave me problems.. although I always wanted a Yamaha Morphous scooter because they were so space age fugly. These days getting older its back to small 4 stroke scooters & electric bicycles that I enjoy most.

Being a self aware Harley simp, I was vastly, hugely, ridiculously, disappointed in both new “sport” entries from HD, the Sportster S and the nightclub bike. The S looks like a cartoon character and apparently you have to be one to fit on the bike, and the nightmare bike doesn’t deliver the same sauce as the 1250 variant. Everyone involved in the design and launch of the sport range at Harley should be fired. They have this new, fast, jewel of an engine and they introduce it into the new “sport” category with the sportster s? WTF Harley! Then they introduce a more traditional and practical “sportster” and put the baby engine in it? How? Why? What? Who’s making these idiotic, mind numbing, decisions? So it’s 3 years of “new” sportsters now and not only are they disappointing, they are vastly overpriced. There’s my rant. Just can’t believe how badly HD has bungled the new sport category of bikes. It’s like they don’t even care about them.

Felt so glued to the windy roads but also soaked up the less so smooth tarmac on the bumpy back roads. Highly recommend Lee

7500 euros for the interceptor is tooo damn much. We get it in india for 4500 euros / 3,70,000 rs, which makes it extremely vfm. And too much power in an Indian metropolitan city is a curse. Had a good laugh when you were describing the HD. I ride an F750GS that must have very similar engine to the F900XR. Yes, not that much HP, though the torque is almost the same; I'm trying to say the engines should have a similar character. For the 750GS I agree that the engine performance wouldn't fall within the "exciting" category. Fortunately, I don't care about exciting personally so I don't mind. Now, RocketMan, how about an electric bike? That should be an exciting performance...and silent!

In regards to the T120/T100 - I fully understand why some people would be perturbed by the drop of the power to the Speed Twin, however I'm 6'5" and found when sitting on the Speed Twin the handlebars were far, far too low for me compared to the more comfortable riding position of the Bonneville T120. In regards to your Transalp/Multistrada, my mate had the Multistrada and he hated it due to the nature of the engine characteristics. You need to ride it with the revs high so it's not as practical as a more "adventure" orientated bike.
@RocketMan_Moto2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your feedback, Darren. I must say that, at 6'2", I didn't really feel the T120 offered that much more room than the ST, but I take your point. Thanks for reminding me about the Ducati's need for high revs. I have seen that you really need to be above 5000rpm to extract the power, and that's really not my riding style, so I need to be mindful of that when I make my choice :)

The Bobber Black. At the time I was a T120 owner, chosen before the Speed twin came out and a slightly more comfortable riding position. Anyway, I lusted after the Bobber, fell in love with its looks, so I arranged a test ride. I was so disappointed and couldn’t wait to get off it. @@RocketMan_Moto again I would differ now my British bikes for the most part have the late model twin leading shoe from 69 to 70. My BMW 100/7 has disc brakes on the front that are very wooden whereas my 600/6 has a set of drum brakes that will burn Rubber stopping. Now in the '60s and seventies especially among the Yamaha and Kawasaki two-stroke that had more motor than the frames could handle you could say those were bad bikes but they were what they were cheap and fast. Everything ran in roller bearings or bushes until Honda started to make four strokes in the 70s cuz everything running and bear aluminum was cheaper to produce. I commuted on a hardtail Magneto equipped 1965 Triumph TR6 and I have had the bike over 40 years. The bsa-250 singles that the Triumph guys like to bad mouth are great little bikes I know I have six of them in all guises. My 250 BSA Enduro bike it won't keep up with the guys on their water cool wonders but I wave at them as their buddies peel them off a tree that they smacked into going 60 miles an hour on a dirt Trail. Sir Herbert Austin used to say good brakes make bad drivers. This was in the 1920s. The only reason we have disc brakes is because of production racing. Let's not forget most of the Japanese disc brakes did not work worse a damn in the rain.

(tightarses) groups and after the ride i totally agree with your comments a i thought it felt like a 250cc... look up "bland" in Dictionary and this is it. looking d forward to more of your work 😄🏍

Test rode the Africa Twin 1100 manual and was disappointed with that too. Tires didnt have enough grip, engine felt unnecessarily vibey, underpowered and overweight compared to the KTM 890 adventure R I test rode a few weeks after that (which had an immobilizer failure after 500 meters, literally, error codes and all). So I completely understand your points about the NT1100 because it's basically the same bike. Best bikes I rode this year: Superadventure S and the Z900RS

I was also disappointed by the AT. I'd love to try the Z900RS, but can't get hold of a demonstrator down here.

Honda seems to loose the plot, heavy bikes and so on.

@@RocketMan_Moto good . . .my only comment on the T120 is it is more comfortable for passengers as the rear pegs are lower and may make a better tourer . . . but in every other respect the Speed Twin is a better bike, faster and handles better.
