The only hope I had when I tried a 1v1 with Nexto was to wait until the very last second, shadowing the whole way. Then it was *sometimes* forced to flick off of the bar and it would leave an opening for a goal. But if you challenge a split second too early, it's in your net

It would be really interesting to add these bad boys in the game and I think it would benefit a lot of players to hone their skills with a much more predictable behavior (both when playing against and with a bot locally). It has really helped me back when RL basic bots were still a threat, so maybe some higher skilled bots would help elevate your skill level when you feel like you've reached your peak.

Well I played a ton against necto and now a fair bit against nexto 1v1, I feel my dribbling, shadow defense, fakes, and 50s have all been improved by a substantial margin. I haven't been flicked in my actual c3 rank in a while, I'm disgustingly good at shadow defense. That being said I still only maintain a 1/4 goal ratio, some games end 10-40 in favor of nexto. that being said I'm somewhat hesitant in my games because playing nexto requires being very defensive punctuated with all out pushes which I'm not very good at.

I feel like the reason people think they can beat the bots is because they aerial like a diamond or Champ 1, but have the ground game of a high SSL. They see that the bot can't aerial and assume that level of skill applies to the whole game whereas the ground game is actually better than some pros.

Judgin good ground and macro play is waaaay more difficult than judging good aerials. Not only subjective ("damn that aerial looked sick af") but also objective because aerials contain easier noticable information about player skill

I have been 1v2ing Necto and now that Nexto(v1710, there are even better version not publicly available atm) has come out 1v1ing it these past weeks and both are insane. For reference I'm a washed gc, who is now about c3. 1v2ing Necto is especially difficult because of the unfair kick offs and such, because I do feel like I'm a lot better, but it was extremely difficult to actually beat it 1v2. Nexto is a different beast. When it comes to its ground game it might just be the best player in the world, at least in 1s (of course I have never played someone like Mawkzy but still). Maybe it's different in 2s where you need more speed and can't just beat 1 person, but it's timing is always perfect. The power is always perfect. Not just full power everytime, it can come real close and do a controlled flick over you. It's also extremely difficult to fake challenge contrary to Necto who is fairly fake challengeable. So if you give nexto any space to start its dribble you're basically done. In defense its reactions are insane and its ability to make goalline saves without panicking is also amazing. The bot also is never 'awkward' since it doesn't really care about camera orientation or whatever. And while it's not that good at dodging bumps, it recovers from them so fast. Humans need a second to reorient themselves, but Nexto is right into the play, usually bumping it actually helps it gain speed. It does have a few weaknesses. It's mostly not that good at defending aerial solo plays. That's pretty much the only way to score against it. And luckily it does give space to set the shot up often when it goes back for boost. And while I said it recovers perfectly from bumps, demoes are very effective against it. But the biggest weakness by far are the kickoffs. Not that its actual kickoffs are bad, they are pretty good in fact. The big problem is that you can just not go for kickoff and will often have an immediate counter goal. But don't be fooled, this bot is insane. I haven't been able to beat it yet. And as a computer science student myself I applaud the developers of the bot. Insane achievement.

I found the demo and kickoff weaknesses as well (I might have found the aerial solo play weakness if I had any aerial skills at all), but I also found one other weakness. It has a perfect ground game, but if you shadow it almost all the way to your net and then challenge, it is forced to flick high and sometimes it will flick off the bar, leaving an open net for you to score. Other than that, it clapped me to the next century as a current GC1 Edit: Oh and also boost starving can actually be pretty effective, but Nexto doesn't care about boost so you just have to play it right when you know its tank is empty

@@vball4eva0 I find boost starving kinda hard because it will just dribble to your net really fast. But you are right about waiting with the challenge but it rarely smashes the bar. It just puts it over you and makes it awkward and immediately reads it of the backboard. I do think the way to actually defend the dribbles is twofold. If nexto isn't really facing you just drive challenge without jumping. It will flick you everytime, but you don't care because the flick will be high and you have all the momentum so you can wrap around and either take away the ball or even better demo it. That works pretty well. Then if it is dribbling on the side of the field you can just wait until it comes really close and then just make sure there are no gaps in your net. Just be patient and usually nexto won't even flick it in that position if you don't dive in. The most difficult part is when it is coming at you through the middle of the field. You have to try to do a drive challenge in order to make it flick while you're able to recover, but when it is coming at you like that its flicks are deadly. This is how I have actually beaten it today, but of course it's still easier said than done.

It's weaknesses that I've found after beating it twice: 1. Over aggression in your own corner especially when the ball is on the wall, you can score most of your goals from counter attacks from there. 2. If he goes back for boost and gives it to you to dribble. He does not shadow. He'll sit in front of net. This leaves him open to air dribble bumps and good 45degree flicks . 3. He also always "falls" for fake challenges, so if he's on his side, fake challenge and he'll always flick it away just to get it over you. Then just hit it into your corner. If he's on your side of the field never fake if he's got good control of the ball. I've found the best way to defend is to slow down right in front of the net shadowing him then bait out a flick with one jump + boost and react accordingly. A lot of times he'll flick it high just to get it over but it'll hit the backboard. 4. There's also the demo and kickoff weaknesses. Sometimes he'll just hit it straight to you on kickoff, but I don't go for the cheese.

I'm a GC player. Spent like an hour vsing Nexto and can say that if you play normally you will get smoked. The only way I was able to consistently beat the bot was to have a lot of boost in defence and then pre jump while shadowing but hover in the air and not dive in. I think this confuses the program since any time I jumped and was close I would get flicked and any time I would jump and was far the bot would drop it and go underneath. These bots are insanely impressive

Yep, there is definitely a way to counter it's playstyle at least if you're at above a certain level (I'd say you need to be at least C3 mechanically), then you can beat him if you counter it's offense with a ton of fake challenges. It's awesome that these bots are finally at a high level, I wonder if they're ever gonna be pro level or higher.

The most important thing though is winning/getting possession off kickoffs (which is true in 1v1 generally). Conceding possession off kickoff is especially bad against Nexto bc its flick game is so good.

NGL - as a super silly silver, mixing up a team of bots with and against Necto, and just set to unlimited time is helping me better fluidly read rotation and timing aerials with more realistic variables, ie teammate or opponent going up for an aerial. Oh and hearing much higher ranks rate the flicks of these bots is reassuring

I'd argue that for some people it would be better to do quite the opposite of using the tracker which you're talking about. Simply cause some people perform way better by not knowing their opponents and team mates rank and mmr. So I guess people should do some tries and see if they're better out with the tracker or if they're better with a bakkesmod that hides all the ranks even in endgame. You can never know until you try for yourself.

it's really simple to be honest , rank is not only represented by mechanics. there is a lot more to that. (pretty sure you have a video about it) rotation , perception , playing around teammates , recoveries , decision making , adaptability. I m a D1 player (at 2s) and i feel like a gold 3 could have my mechanics. I could get peaked on by a mechanical plat 1. (I hate 1s so much btw). so I never judge players in your videos sledge because from my perspective the ranks are solidly represented. However (!) , it's a little annoying when players compete against each other and one is X rank 1 while the other is X rank 3 , the difference is ridiculous most of the time , I would recommend trying to find people at X rank 2 if possible every time.

Con mí hermano y un amigo jugamos 3v3 y fue muy caótico, apenas pudimos hacer algunos goles, lo difícil es cuando hacen disparos que rebotan y ellos pueden leerlo incluso antes de que la pelota rebote, son muy rápidos. En realidad, deberían modificar esa predicción a futuro tan exagerada y serían unos bots excelentes para entrenamiento. Fue divertida la experiencia, pero volver a jugar con personas luego de esos partidos se sentía muy extraño.

Necto/Nexto are really impressive. as a diamond in 1s im having unexpectedly much trouble. one game went to OT with an 8-8 scoreline i have no idea how that happened. Then i lost to one of nectos flicks. Im not the best 1s player or even a 1s main by any stretch but to think its a bot, truly impressive. Or is it even a bot, or is it just the sum or average of all players?

Honestly, even if it is GC level, it can be cheesed so easily by going for airdribbles, flipresets og simply playing the ball to the sides of target. Knowing that you should beat it 4/5 times if you are low GC

Like any bot you eventually can find out a weakness and exploit it. Just like everyone in my video though, this is them trying it for the first time.

If you play just enough games against it you will win eventually. It‘s the exact same in tournaments for example. But expecting a GC1 to beat it 4/5 times is a bit optimistic. Unless you‘re really good in the air that is.

Haha, if anything Kovalo and BLTBacon were good for champs, they certainly have better mechanics than me (I'm a champ) and they adapted to it pretty quickly. That being said, there was some weird behavior from Necto in that game, and the toxic players in this video had bad ping, so don't be toxic to them just because they lost worse. Don't be like them!

I usually play just for fun and can beat Necto all day long, but nexto murders my soul every time i even try. I float around plat 3 diamond 1 in ranked, maybe i should grind ranked more..

I played a ton against necto and now a fair bit against nexto 1v1, I feel my dribbling, shadow defense, fakes, and 50s have all been improved by a substantial margin. I haven't been flicked in my actual c3 rank in a while, I'm disgustingly good at shadow defense. That being said I still only maintain a 1/4 goal ratio, some games end 10-40 in favor of nexto. that being said I'm somewhat hesitant in my games because playing nexto requires being very defensive punctuated with all out pushes which I'm not very good at. Still an incredible training excercise, it does not allow mistakes.
