What type of paint do they use to fill in the letters? Also what type of abrasive are they using? What is the putty? I’d really like more detail on every step and what products they are using.

I think it’s just heavy enough that it won’t budge without a serious hit. And in that case it might be better that it falls over inseams of breaking.

Interesting as always Mike. In the UK it is a requirement to fit the headstone to the base with pins and cement whilst the base and foundation base have a metre long ground anchor down into the soil to prevent the assembly falling over.

we use to stainless steel dowels for headstone we never use acid on granite we use bleach to clean them or poultice when we from the sandblasting on lettering will use to tape stencils down old stone mason 👍 you do nice work but you never stop learning 👍

I was a shape carver for many years. What that entails in the monument business is you do everything and shape carve. I cut rubber, laid rubber, prepared the rubber for the sand blasting. Then I rolled the monument on through to MY work station and done all the shape carving . Then when we had enough we’d take a week to set the monument. That’s where the men are cut from the boys. A cemetery is the hottest place on earth in the summer and the coldest place in the winter.

Thank you for sharing this. I’m wondering if a metal knife is necessary to cut the excess putty. It seems like a plastic spatula would be safer on stone but then again maybe it doesn’t make a difference.

Mike interesting video, just went to check out my new granite countertops at a huge wholesaler. Would make a great video for you. They sold soapstone, granite, marble and Quartz. Most stones, slabs were from Italy and Brazil. They had 3 3" thick slabs left over from Tom Brady's house in Brookline. They were for sale for $100,000. Must have ordered a few extra. Obviously way out of my budget but maybe 🤔 not yours.

Question: Granite is insanely hard and requires carbide tools to carve. How is the stencil harder than the granite? With my zero knowledge of headstone lettering, I would think the sandblasting media would eat what looks like a rubber/paper-type stencil.
@MikeHaduck2 жыл бұрын
Hi Lowell,,, that's something I can't answer, I think it's a rubber and it just bounces off, maybe thanks Mike

My grandmother passed away almost for years ago this coming January and the company we purchased the grave stone from who we paid ahead of time to carve her name in still has not carved her name. I’m very upset and disappointed. How would you handle this situation. Would you ask for your money back. Like I don’t know why it’s still 4 years later and nothing
@MikeHaduck Жыл бұрын
Hi I can't say, that might be something you got to get legal advice on, thanks, Mike
@Chrisbuildsstuff247 Жыл бұрын
@@MikeHaduck I figured as much I plan on hiring an external company to come do it. And also pursue legal action. But I was just curious because you have more knowledge about the masonry profession. Have you ever in your years of work come across somethings like this. Any thoughts on the matter I just don’t know if that’s fairly common or maybe not?
