The TRUE phenomenon known as Poco was revealed in the release of the DeLIVErin album. Kudos to the band for making some fine music long thereafter....but I always come back to that one, amazing moment in time. Listen to the album, read the liner notes. THAT was the true Poco. I saw POCO playing at a local gym in Geneseo NY in 1977 and you would think they would just mail in that night and they played a great set for the fans. They were not really all that popular and the crowd was rather small but they played to it and were very personable and had fun.

One of their best albums, "Indian Summer," was released in that year. Unfortunately, it wasn't a hit, and I will never understand why, because it's such a beautiful work of musical art. However, they did have a big hit in '78 with "Crazy Love" and the "Legend" album.

I saw POCO early on and the first time I think Jim was still in the group and then a couple years later (1973?) saw them with Paul Cotton with JJ Cale as their opener! Fabulous group. I thought they were better musicians than Eagles who I saw in their country days before Felder joined.

There is a story how Henley and Felder were allowed to observe POCO practices and from than they tweaked the Country Rock music of POCO into the Rock/Country rock of the Eagles !!!

Frey and Henley saw them at the Troubador like many others. Furay started The BS about The Eagles tweaking their stuff when the Eagles took off with Take It Easy and was incredibly jealous. Poco didn't take off and Furay always looked for reasons other than himself. When he saw Young, Stills, Messina from the Buffalo Springfield take off and he was going nowhere it drove him nuts. He always had to call the shots and it burned him.

It comes down to "do you have the songs" or not? You can have great technical musicians at every spot but if you can't write the songs you are nowhere. And "chemistry" is a thing, and it can't be bottled.

I saw the guys many times although like many others I came aboard during the Legend days yet I did see the Legacy reunion and that album could be a desert island album. I do not agree with Jimmy as I for one loved the Paul Cotton lineups...Running Horse is another powerful album!

Poco became better known for Crazy Love however Furay/Messina Poco was just important. Later Poco was more MOR/soft rock music but early Poco was very eclectic.

The last Buffalo Springfield concert was Nov 5th, 1968 at the Long Beach Arena.

I lived in Long Beach and I had to work that night -- I was bummed out. I never got to see Buffalo Springfield live. I did get to see all the subsequent spinoffs from that band through the years. And years later Richie Furay was a neighbor in the hills west of Boulder CO.

I hope I get a reply,I'm curious what year the Randy Meisner interview occurred? As of 2022 he has been a recluse for a few years and may be battling dementia. He sounded quite lucid in interview.

The best Poco line up was - Paul Cotton- lead guitar and vocals/ Timothy B. Schmidt _ Bass guitar and vocals. George Grantham- Drums and vocals and Nathan Russell "Rusty" Young- Steel Guitar, Rthym guitar and vocals.

Buffalo Springfield was a terribly underappreciated group. As for Poco..."Heart of the Night" was one of the greatest songs of the entire pop/rock era.

I've watched 3 or 4 of these Messina interviews and never heard a word about the 1989 Poco reunion. Did I miss one?

He deserves credit for getting Poco together, but he always has a complaint. He chose to leave, then he's complaining it wasn't the same with Cotton. Duh. In a lot of ways it was better. Bad Weather's one of the best country rock ballads ever. Tim's vocals blended perfectly with Richie's. And he never gives Richie his due for writing most of the songs on the first three albums, singing and his personality. And apparently Richie had no role at all in putting the band together. Really?

Bad Weather was first done with "Illinois Speed Press", the band Paul Cotton was in before Poco.
