The unit still sounds great. Harmony is tight, all the players are right on. Of course my best wishes to Tony.

Great video.............Tony 's my hero

small thing, but it bugs me: people sing "I'm too old to ride the rails and I'll thumb the road alone" which makes no sense. The line as Norman sings it is, "I'm too old to ride the rails or thumb the road alone. So I guess I'll never make it back to home." That makes sense. Thank you.

I didn't know Josh was a killer mando player too!
@blue494811 ай бұрын
I believe he originally started on banjo, then mando then guitar later. Josh played with Special Consensus in the early 2000s and he played mando

I don't know about "best" but my all-time favorite traditional bluegrass singers are Jimmy Martin, Dudley Connell, and Lynn Morris.

@westwind1957 thats because there is no banjo, there wasnt any banjo on the manzanita album either which is the album this song was on.

Has anyone noticed the confusion the lyrics to the chorus of this song creates in a bluegrass jam? Tony's version (my favorite) is "It's a long way FROM the delta." while Norman Blake's original version is "a long way TO the delta." Makes for some shaky harmonies and annoying banter about what is the "correct" version. I wonder why Tony changed the words. Any ideas or experience with this?

In my humble opinion : He's in the Delta , and wants to go to the North Georgia Hills . It's the same distance each way , and this is Tony's interpretation of Normen's excellent lyrics .

In real life old man Sullivan was stuck in Sulphur Springs, GA and could not make it home to Mississippi. He died there and is buried in the grave yard in Sulphur Springs, AL at the foot of Sand Mountain.@@tedhobbs2699

When the singer tails off his notes at the end of the words "down" and "found" for example he sounds country.....not good. Otherwise perfect...
