Your video's remind me was I was just staring collecting back in 1980 and my dad would buy cards, at a large monthly flea market, for me and my brother. My dad passed in1998 and that time with him meant the most when I look back now. I have a 15 year old daughter now and we go to the same flea market searching for BB cards for me and Pokemon cards for her. Your dad reminds me of my dad and it is awesome seeing you two collecting together. Love your content, keep it up and God bless.

Your card show production & narration videos are superb Graig-the best on KZbin. You take time with the visuals & I like how you intersperse short review clips on your pickups. Your ‘59 Mays pickup was a great deal. I have about 25 graded 59s including the Mantle highlight card but no Mays yet. Glad to see you focus on those undervalued football cards. Love the card show videos! Learned some savvy ways to navigate the tables watching you. Thinking of your Otto Graham pick up. Can PSA reslab without regrading? Is that a service they offer? Say your slab got scratched etc… That way you keep the grade with a new case. Did you notice Jim Brown’s at a higher price with the recent unfortunate news?
@MidLifeCards Жыл бұрын
Regarding the Otto Graham, yes. PSA will reslab into the new case without regrading. To me, that's a good and a bad thing. A lot of people were grabbing Jim Brown cards and a lot of dealers were pulling their Jim Brown cards from their cases, not knowing what would happen to his prices. The news broke that he had passed right as the show was opening, and was the talk of the show. I'm actually planning on doing a video about that whole type of situation in the next week or so. It's an interesting idea that card value change when a player passes...and there are a couple of things I think people could/should consider.

There was a brief moment where Willie Wilson was the fire. That rookie Earl Campbell. You can always reslab the Mays for cheap. I would pass on it thought, cuz OC. At this point, I don' even consider OC. Soft corners don't bother me. I love those comp insert shots! That Walter Payton was a beauty 20:40. Do you ever ask for a receipt on cards? Would dealers be adverse to that? I am thinking on re-sale if you sell on a pay app the IRS will tax it and rather than paying tax on the whole sale you only need to pay tax on the profit. But without having proof what you paid, you would not be able to do that.
@MidLifeCards Жыл бұрын
That's a really interesting question. I don't know how proof would work, but you make a great point. Asking for receipts at a card show seems like it would be strange, but for tax purposes, if you need proof, I get it.

Great show, and some education on slab age. But didn’t care for the discussion on, you gotta sell me this slab at a lower price because it’s older and I won’t make as much money when I resale it, portion. A good topic for debating but not so good as a reason to gain a discount from the current seller. Nevertheless, it was a nice show with great cards and pickups. Thanks a bunch!

The corners look super sharp, color/ registration look great.... honestly, so long as there aren't any surface issues, if you had a more generous grader, I could see that card even coming back a 7. The centering is enough for a 7. I've seen recently graded 7s with worse centering. You can get some great deals with older generation slabs because of the (imo misplaced perception) that the card should be automatically considered a grade lower because it's in an older generation slab.
@MidLifeCards Жыл бұрын
I definitely agree that A LOT of older slab grades hold up. The perception is definitely something that could be taken advantage of, like you said. Great point.

Otto Graham was the original GOAT. His cards are criminally undervalued in my opinion. Sure, there is a bias of time in that Graham's counting stats pale compared to today's standard, but just a little research shows how great he was. Graham dominated football as no quarterback has ever done. I also have no doubt that there is a bias against older slabs. This could be researched via sales.
@MidLifeCards Жыл бұрын
I totally agree. Looking at his stats compared to others of his generation is unreal.

Here's a question Graig in regards to the new/old PSA slab grading standards: Back in the late 90's/early 00's BGS graded cards carried a premium over PSA due to the perception of 'stricter grading standards' ie a BGS 9 would sell for more than a PSA 9 etc.. Would it make sense in today's climate to search out old BGS graded cards from that timeframe, crack the case, and submit to PSA? Maybe taking advantage of an arbitrage opportunity? If BGS standards were truly better at the time, that could be a really good play (Considering old PSA slabs still carry more value than BGS slabs currently). Something to think about! Thanks for the content!

I don't blame these dealers for trying to get the highest price they can. But to be honest, most of them are not being realistic. Whenever I see a card I really like, I ask to see it but don't get overly excited and tell them I'll think about it. Then I go back to that table (if the card is still there) and make them an offer right before the place closes. It usually works. As far as older slabs go, I think a seller should re-grade their cards every 5-6 years. I personally don't buy older slabs.
@MidLifeCards Жыл бұрын
I agree. A lot of the list prices are extremely high. Your strategy is a good one. It's essentially what I did, buying both cards right before closing.
@ACD1994 Жыл бұрын
I would have asked the seller if he thinks PSA, is more shady now than it was 30 years ago, there seems to be more trimming and altering of cards...and PSA still grades them, which makes me nervous buying any high end vintage cards...🤷♂

You stole the Mays all star card. I can’t believe he gave u another $25 off ! A PSA 6 is a 6 whether it’s a 2nd generation or a 10th generation card. I have older ones that would destroy some of these newer generation cards. Sure some of the newer gen cards are nice, but I still see many poorly graded cards that I wouldn’t even remotely consider. TRUE collectors are going to buy the best card in the grade whether it is from PSA, SGC, BGS, or whomever.
@MidLifeCards Жыл бұрын
I agree that many older generation slabs hold up over time. Some don't, but most do. I didn't even ask him to drop the price, he just volunteered it. I would've given him the whole $225 he was asking.

@@MidLifeCards Graig, all I was saying was I get your video a while back about the PSA generations.
