The USB's on the small controller box in the back of the panels are useful, I would say obligatory, if your solar generator/battery bank does not support pass through charging. That is charging, your devices while charging the generator . Many solar generators do not support pass through charging. You could charge your phone or small electronics with just the solar panel. Nice video. Thanks for taking the time.

I have the newer panel. I bought it with the Rockpals 350w power station. I cannot use more than two sections of the panel to charge. If I try to use more the power station trips offline. And that is on a sunny spring day in New York! What power station is everyone else using? I want one that can work with a fully deployed solar panel.

As long as that device can charge at 14v-18v. Some of the larger generators require higher voltage. If that is the case you would need to go to 2 in series and then parallel both pairs. Again not sure if these panels can do that. Good news is if they don’t work out just return them and try another panel that can for sure be used in series.

Can you clear something up...."other" youtubers have mentioned putting two panels in SERIES not parallel?
@NewZonaRides
@NewZonaRides 3 жыл бұрын
The reason to go series would be if you needed more voltage or if you had mismatched panels. There are other reasons but that is the two biggest reasons. Parallel is best for most 12v setups.

good video. i really appreciate you showing us the watt meter. so many people talk about how much power these types of foldable panels put out but dont even know how to measure the output, let alone share the info. just curious, have you documented a full day of watt hours from just one, or both of these panels? i realize all things are relative and you live in AZ and i live in indiana. in your video i could see you were pulling 120 watts and had pulled in 60 watt hours, and you said it was first light, which tells me you only had been collecting solar energy for about 25 minutes? is that true? sure i made some assumptions, but i am curious. today i got 140 watt hours from a 100 watt panel sitting in the the sun all day here in indiana, and it was unusually sunny today. 140 watt hours is a winter record (this winter) for me. in the summer, the same setup, the most i ever got was on about june 19th (almost longest sun day of the year) 384 watt hours. on cloudy days here it can be so dark and dense for a week sometimes here that you cant even see where in the sky the sun is supposed to be. again great video!
@NewZonaRides
@NewZonaRides 3 жыл бұрын
I am not sure how long the watt meter was connected when I made the video. I honestly never paid attention to total watt hours because I use my panels to charge my battery as fast as possible so I can go riding. I can't just leave the panels out while I am gone from camp. I plug the panels in and my battery is charged usually on a good day in 4 hours. They do that pretty consistency. I will pay more attention to total watt hours on my next video. Thanks for the comments.

@@NewZonaRideswow i wrote a lot and researched a lot for the wrong reasons. for some reason i came back to this video thinking you had the 300 watt units. i really dug into trying to figure out why you would charge your ac50 with 600 watts lol. uhg long day, but i learned a lot about those "solar generators" in the process lol
@NewZonaRides
@NewZonaRides 3 жыл бұрын
@@jasonbrown467 That is all correct except-These panels are 100 watts each. Wired in parallel on the best of days I have seen around 170- 180 watts. So whats that off the top of my head that's like 12 amps at 15 volts . Even if you could get these to work wired in series you would be looking at like 6 amps at 30 volts or so. Maybe I misunderstood what you were saying. Using these in series would not make any sense for my application though.

The most I have seen out of one panel is 72 watts. That's weird because I have seen 170 watts out of 2. Not sure why that is exactly. I use the original AC50 to power my 47 quart fridge. Im completely new to this and cant find basic info. i have a Bluetti EB70 715w and want to use this Rockpal 100w panel. it has mp4 connectors at 12v. this is an 18v panel? does that mean my solar power unit isnt strong enough to use this panel? the power unit in your video looked less powerful than the EB70 so im hoping im wrong.
@NewZonaRides
@NewZonaRides 2 жыл бұрын
A 100 watt panel for something that big won’t be enough. Mine was a AC50. The 18v is reduced by the built in charge controller. The charge controller delivers the right amount of charge to the batteries. Also check with Bluetti because some of the larger battery boxes need more than 18 volts to get the charge controller to start charging.

@@NewZonaRides There isn't a 65w cap on the new Jackery 500 with MTTP controller. I have the newest version of the Rockpal 100w with Anderson connector. Best I get with one panel to my Jackery 500 is 71w. It's been consistently charging at 67-70 consistently. No 65w cap with this unit. Going to get another 100w Rockpal SP 02 panel to run parellel with the one already have to cut the charging time in half. I did notice around 8 in the morning as the sun was appearing to rise I was only getting around 42w. Around 10 it held at 59w steady. Just before noon I unplugged it from Jackery then plugged it right back in. It shot up instantly to 70w and then topped out at 71w. Mostly 69w consistently over 3 hours but has gone done as low as 67w. Perfect sun no clouds. Panels get hot though. I like the long cable to keep the Jackery out of the sun. I purchased mine after watching hobotech's review of two 80w Rockpal panels running parellel to his 500w Jackery. (no longer sell 80w panels)

The gas generator is an option. I purchased one just for that option. Yet, I just ordered a second panel so I can run two. It boils down to your electricity needs, and the sun. The price ... $400, good bad, depends on your hobby. People pay $1000 for a drone so I think I can cough up $320 for two solar panels. Good price on Amazon right now, $40 off coupon. On a short trip hopefully the panels will take me through a couple days. On a long trip, the gas generator goes in the floorboard on the passenger side, just in case.
