@@Wintersmith. ship? the song totally works for their canonical relationship. They are kindred spirits stuck on opposite sides of a petty disagreement. And saddest of all, these two powerful rulers let their personal animosity get in the way of a potentially great opportunity for both their realms. Remember that when Thranduil and Thorin do finally work together, they trounce Sauron so badly that the White Council can just waltz into Dol Guldur and evict him. Not only that, but the alliance of Mirkwood and Erebor forces Sauron to divert troops from the Pelennor Fields. He has to keep Thranduil and Dain (and a revenge-thirsty Celeborn) busy, otherwise he has no prayer of taking Minas Tirith. But that means that his entire war strategy hinges on the Corsairs of Umbar. When the Oathbreakers destroy them at Pelargir, Sauron auto-loses. Aragorn marches on the Black Gate, putting Sauron in a nightmare scenario. He’s evidently having flashbacks to Tol inGaurhoth because he tries to bluff Aragorn and Gandalf, even though he surely realizes at this point just who they are. Predictably enough, that fails. Then he tries to buy a truce with Osgiliath. Now keep in mind that Osgiliath is probably Sauron’s most strategically important remaining asset: having lost Isengard and Pelargir. Sauron has not panicked like this since he was in Huan’s chokehold. And then, unlike Lúthien, Aragorn refuses to bargain. His only option is to turn all his power onto Frodo, and make him pull an Isildur. But Gollum isn’t Cirdan, he won’t hesitate to commit Kinslaying: so whatever way the fight between Frodo and Gollum ends, Sauron is fucked. But imagine what Thranduil and Thorin could have accomplished together if they’d been friends this whole time. They are both fearsome warriors who care deeply about their people and their lands. If Thranduil had helped with the reclaiming of Moria, it likely would have succeeded: for starters. Which means the Ringwraiths don’t get to Amon Sûl much less The Shire. Let’s say Balin’s company has found some of Narvi’s creations: boom, that’s nine dead Ringwraiths. So the entire War of the Ring is completely unnecessary. Elrond sends Boromir back to Gondor with different counsel: retreat from Minas Tirith to Isengard, where he will meet an old friend. Denethor doesn’t listen, but Boromir and Faramir persuade most of the people to leave anyway. Of course, on his way to Isengard Aragorn stopped to see Galadriel (and Arwen) in Lothlorien. Galadriel contacts Saruman with her mirror and then realizes he has gone evil. She sends Celeborn with him, gives him the Elessar, and advises them to contact the Ents. Boromir and Faramir catch the Uruk-hai and Dunlendings by surprise. Boromir dies defending the Westfold, and Éodred lives. Faramir catches Wormtongue hassling Éowyn, and draws his sword. But Éowyn realizing that he’ll be killed if he harms Wormtongue, grabs the sword and dispatches Wormtongue herself instead. This releases Theoden from the spell. He sees the sense in Elrond’s advice and sends most of his people with the Gondorians. Meanwhile he garrisons the Hornburg, tying up the remainder of the Uruk-hai. Faramir and Éodred arrive at Isengard. Meanwhile, Aragorn and Celeborn have contacted the Ents: and they’ve broken the dam. Gandalf and Saruman are dueling atop Isengard. Upon seeing Faramir, Gandalf realizes there’s no more need to hide his power and goes angel-mode on Saruman. Taken by surprise, Saruman is killed. Then Gandalf goes with Éowyn and bails out the Hornburg garrison. The Uruk-hai are destroyed, but at the cost of Theoden’s life. Éodred is crowned at the Hornburg, and Faramir marries Éowyn there. Then Aragorn is crowned at Isengard, and marries Arwen. Sauron’s forces are cut in half: the Haradrim and Corsairs in the South, the orcs at Osgiliath in the North. Aragorn and Prince Imrahil conquer Pelargir and steal their fleet: then sail up to Osgiliath. Éodred and Faramir join them, and kick the orcs out. Then Thranduil and Thorin join them, and assault Minas Tirith. They find Denethor in the dungeons, dead by his own hand. Then King Elessar rallies the surviving Gondorians and sets up a siege outside the Black Gate. Sauron at this point is just fucked, and has to accept the stalemate. His only option now is to try and trick one party into betraying the others, and that’ll be difficult with Gandalf around. Middle Earth has the longest peace since the 1st Age.

@@golwenlothlindel Well, yeah, but what has all that to do with "shipping"? I'm one who thinks that entire "shiping" thing between Elves and Dwarves is the most ridiculous things ever dreamed up by fans. Easier to imagine between Dwarves and dwarves, but Elves and Dwarves? Nah. But do like this here video, showing the complete and utter contrast between the two. Except for temperment. Both are cold and calulating. Both have tempers. Not a real good pairing.
