Makena Marker Pick it up on your own. I never did marching band in high school, at least not for percussion. I marched trumpet, but I play set on my own time. I picked up the Stick Control book (also known as the drumming bible), and learned on my own. Learn your rudiments, even though it's not fun, it's worth it in the long run. Take it at a slow tempo and build your way up. As fun as playing rudiments as fast as you can in the beginning seems, you're not improving anything. Don't give up either! Drumming is something that always puts a smile on my face.

I actually was in marching band lol but my band class cut me out of the drums section, cause I wasn't "on time, and on beat" like what?? lmao I always loved playing the drums since I was kid but my band class cut me out cause I was doing fantastic but I messed up on one little line and it was the last line too! and said "Yeah, nope. You're done." I played the brass instruments that I never liked. But after about 5 years of band class I got tired of being in band class and left on my sophomore year. Doing concerts for band always makes me tired and sleepy so it wasn't for me. It would've been so fun for marching band if I did get the chance to do drumming! And actually, that's what my dad wanted me to do! but I got stuck with an 8- or 9-pounds of weight of an instrument in my hands to walk around. Give me a song, and some drumsticks and I'll show you how I can rock! lol
