They've always had the capability of adding a refueling mechanic. If indie devs and modders can do it, Rockstar 100% can. The question is more should they implement it.

@@shanustheanus If they did it, it would need really good balancing so that way it's more about the relationship between you and the car than a tedious thing. I enjoyed the fact in RDR2 that you could take care of your horse in the form of "maintenance" so that way you build a bit of a parasocial relationship with your horse. It also felt good that you had to take care of Arthur because again, parasocial, and the fact it adds immersion in the whole Cowboy Survival sim aspect of the game.

@@shanustheanus It was the best way I could explain it. Given that Parasocial is a psychological thing where it's normally a one sided relationship with a celebrity or social media star/influencer, but it can be extended to characters that aren't actually real. An example of this sort would be the term "gamer-crush" where you develop a crush on a male/female character in a game. One could say a more accurate term would be anthropomorphism since this is in relation to a Horse and Car, both non-human. But parasocial came up first.

Refueling should absolutely be in the game. It's an additional thing to do and an additional thing to spend money on, but it has to be balanced correctly. No one wants to refuel a car every hour. Maybe 6-10 hours of drive time. That would likely equal 4 or more play sessions per refuel. It's enough so that we know we need to keep an eye on it, but not so much that it's annoying and disrupts what we're doing. Players should also be able to carry a gas can, similar to GTA V, but in this case it would also be used to give your car more fuel if you're getting low.

Yeah it can just be like feeding your horse in RDR2, maybe your car never FULLY runs out of gas, but when it's low on fuel it doesn't drive at top speed, or something like that

A clear "low fuel" warning that gives you 10-15 minutes to fuel up would be great. Something where you have a reasonable amount of time to finish a mission or cop chase. & like I said, a gas can would be great to have if you do run out or come close to it.

If they do add fuel they should make it realistic to where you get 200-450 miles per full tank and also depending on how you drive too, because there is actual mileage on the game metrics. I believe it would make sense. (Or km for the rest of the world who aren’t American)

@@StonerHAS I personally don't care what they use to measure it, as long as it falls into a reasonable window of time. Gas station trips have to be uncommon enough that players aren't sick of doing it in the first week or two.

"Leaps and bounds" well we already saw what the graphics are like in the trailer. The graphics are really nice, but I'm not entirely sure graphics are leaps and bounds better. Its not as good as a modded out cyberpunk 2077 which is more leaps and bounds over Gta 5. In some aspects, other modern games already look just as good, if not, better.. Granted, they aren't powering an entire city (with the exception of maybe the new spiderman game). Regardless, gta 6 PC version will eventually have graphic mods. Gameplay wise, I'm not expecting anything breaktaking. I'm not sure what they would come out with thats truly groundbreaking that I havent thought of. Its going to be great nonetheless.

I think the comparison should probably be RDR2 to GTA 6, visually slight upgrades. And I think some fans of RDR will find GTA 6 will be a bit of a let down in terms of mechanics. Im still confident GTA6 will set new benchmark in terms of depth and quality, more nervousness over the story than anything else.

im a fivem player and have played for awhile, the fuel scripts arnt a new thing they have been in for years so im surprised it wasnt reported on sooner, granted it was made by more independent people than the fivem Team themselfs. Refueling in Fivem isnt a huge deal and normally the gas lasts awhile depending on the script and how fast you drive ETC.

I think rockstar is thinking about their legacy, has an entire archive/ vault of behind the scenes footage of the making of all their games. and are planning on eventually creating a "History of Rockstar Games" type documentary. With rockstar worked their way up to being widely seen as not just a gaming company but a part of pop culture and with their budget, it may even be released theatrically for a limited time.

A interesting fuel situation i thought of. Imagine you have played the intro and its your 1st time being in the open world. Your driving around in you're rusty old car.. you come across a shiny sports car stranded side of the road (another nice bike moment) you have the cunning idea to steal it. You get in and you get a prompt that its got no fuel, then suddenly the find out it's a bait car and you have a 3 star wanted level

PS5 pro is not going to be a massive improvement from a base PS5! Don't fall for it, GTA6 on base PS5 will look excellent the same in PS5 pro. If you already own a PS5 then you're going to waste your money for little improvements. The PS6 is releasing 3 years from now, It would be better to stay with the base PS5 and upgrade to a PS6 because it will be a massive leap!

I think refuelling would be really annoying. GoW looked amazing on the PS4 pro versus the standard, but needs confirmation of what a PS5 pro would bring to the table and what kind of meat on the horse it would add.

Maybe a lot of the realism features (petrol, going permanent night night after one blink to the head etc) would be exclusively in online. If that’s the case I just hope each feature is able to be turned on/off. Give players the ability to make the game as realistic/arcadey as possible. Great episode boys!

I will be upgrading my console for GTA VI - my PS4 Pro is still holding up but the 5 Pro will be worth it towards the start of next year - might as well wait a little longer instead of getting a base 5 now and missing out on the upgrade. I enjoy the idea of having to refuel your vehicle. Like how you had to maintain your Horse's cores in RDR2. It adds immersion, attachment to what you own in the game (vehicle in this case ofc), a new criminal element where maybe you can siphon gas to avoid paying, which can add a joke about inflation on gas costs, and it can bring in some tactics into the game like when and where you decide to do a crime in relation to how much fuel you have left. And this can add an interesting dynamic if you steal cars, because not every car will be full in the tank.

I think fuel would add that last bit of the puzzle to make the vehicles feel like real vehicles. We’ve gotten the ability to see the interiors in first person, we can open the doors as we please, and we’ve seen evidence in the trailer that the windows will function. Now all we need is two things… windshield wipers and fuel. The latter is more important since EVERY car needs fuel. Mafia 2 did it and it wasn’t annoying or time consuming. The ability to fuel your car makes it feel like it is a real thing. The process wouldn’t need to take any longer than the car wash animations. If Rockstar wants the world to be the most immersive yet then all the gas stations in the game can no longer just be set dressing. And if the convenience stores sell useful items like snacks, painkillers, etc. then I could see stopping at the store and filling up while you go in an buy what you need becoming just another routine in the game. No different than stopping by an ammu-nation to get gear or a store to get clothes. It would be weird if we see the gas stations in the game have npcs parked in front of the pumps yet we as the player have some magical essence on our person at all times that makes whatever vehicle we enter, never need to stop. (Could you imagine if one of the new vehicle stats players care about would be gas mileage? That would be pushing it too far but just the idea of hearing someone say they prefer [this] car over [that] car in gta because it has better miles to the gallon cracks me up.)

Yeah I think they probably have cameras running during the development and plan for a behind the scenes video for all of their recent games, but they end up never doing anything with it. Hopefully that changes with GTA VI

FiveM Fuel consumption was already a think back in 2015. Many servers had it. The only difference is now that not server owners implemented it, rather FiveM directly so it requires less work.

Fuel should exist, it should just deplete very slowly.. Perhaps a literal real life depletion rate. This way you will rarely ever need to actually refuel, but the sense of limited fuel still remains to add a sense of realism.

I think refuel would be a cool feature. Keep in mind that you wouldn't have to do it very often. Another cool thing could be that when you steal a more expensive car or a car in a nicer area those cars have more fuel in their tank as it's a fact that poorer people don't fill their tanks as often as people with more money. I think a lot of those “look what you can do in the new GTA” things for VI will pertain to interiors. Right now in GTA Online, with the exception of clothes stores, convenience stores, tattoo parlours etc. every interior requires 2 small cutscenes and often a black loading screen in between. Imagine if VI introduces being able to walk through the lobby of your apartment building, taking the elevator up, putting the key in your door all for that extra bit of immersion. Hell, even being able to pull out a weapon in your own house or buy your own furniture for it. We’ve seen from the trailer that you can see into buildings through the windows to some degree, whether these are accurate or just Spider-Man-like projections remains to be seen, but imagine if in VI Online you could see your friend in their apartment from outside? I’m guessing at least one or two of these will come to the game in some form and will be hugely hyped on release but a few years down the line will seem like nothing too crazy.

Just wanted to say that fuel consumption has been a thing in Fivem for many years now. FiveM is just a server browser, and the people themself host and make the servers. A lot of servers has fuel consumption and petrol stations fully implemented

Regarding fuel for cars, I'd actually like to have that feature, but I'd expect it to be a function like the camp system in Read Dead Redemption 2, or a lot of the horse customisation... It's there if you want it, but not really game-breaking if you want to ignore it. For instance, if you want to just steal cars to get things done, half a tank of gas will do you just fine, but if you select a certain car that you want to be your "hero" vehicle, taking care of it could impove its stats by ten or fifteen percent in various areas. I'd also think that the jump from V to IV is going to be significant, if only because Rockstar know now what they didn't before V dropped: it could still turn a profit a decade or more after release. To look again at Red Dead, that game came out almost six years ago now, and there are still few games that come close to matching it graphically or for detail. A lot of the weak elements of GTA Online in 2024 spring from the fact that it's fundamentally based on a PS3-era build, so knowing about the potential longevity of this next game, I think Rockstar will find some way to build something that could be added to over time, most probably with map expansions.

@@WayStedYou lol what’s that? Are you thinking of the CPU? They’re aiming for 8k with AI upscaling but the CPU will be bottlenecked. GTA 6 may run a bit smoother in crowded areas but I don’t expect much. On the OG PS4, Saint Denis would always lag for me. The PS4 pro fixed that issue but that game still ran 30fps.

I got an idea Refueling should be in the game but they should have a realism setting, so you could toggle it to be on or off, other realism settings could be taking more damage, speeding gets you a wanted level, and maybe even getting tickets if you have a low wanted level

I’ve just began playing GTA IV again and I believe it’s one of the best GTA’s of all time down to its dense world, amazing characters and storyline. It doesn’t have the size, scale or the eccentricy of GTA SA or VC, but made up for it with a more adult and dark story. What do you think the tone of GTA VI’s story will be? A more wacky bombastic story like most GTA’s of the past, or a more dark gritty story like GTA IV? I’d love it if they found a nice happy medium. Thanks! 😁

I don’t get why people are comparing GTA6 to 5 more than RDR2. It’s a given that 6 is gonna so far ahead of what they did with 5. I’m way more interested to see how it compares to red dead 2. The leap from gta5 to rdr2 was huge in my opinion in terms of realism and the world in general and how you interact with it. It’ll be interesting to see how they implement what they did in rdr2 into a modern day gta. Rdr2 is a masterpiece but I have no doubt that they can exceed that

I wonder if the secrecy is brought on more by the Old Guard over at R* with Sam Houser having the ultimate say. The studio is made up of individuals so having a BTS camera could be there for many reasons, maybe they want to pass on things to other people throughout the company, maybe someone has the idea of doing a BTS highlight reel that only some developers ever see, maybe it’s for finance to ensure studio time isn’t being wasted. That footage would have to still exist. Maybe someone passed on the thought of a documentary only for the idea to be canned down the road. I remember before RDR2 an artbook listing leaked for the game which never saw the light of day. It wouldn’t surprise me if things like that are constantly suggested by people within Rockstar but mostly get shuttered before they see the light of day. That artbook somehow slipped through the cracks, it gets reported on by the media, some old school senior staff member sees articles about an artbook they never approved to be made but someone else of equivalent standing did, perhaps someone without the same tenure and belief of secrecy approved it. Didn’t an ex-dev recently find himself stirring the hornets nest with other devs for discussing San Andreas development stories? It’s definitely a workplace culture thing and I reckon Sam himself is really strict one what does get released. He would have to oversee any sort of official release, any trailer, any interview, any poster, everything. He sounds so hands on! Like when the Project America leak came out he was the one to personally call the guy that sourced that story for Rooster Teeth to try to find out who said something.

I don't have any console, I use my pc for gaming, I always keep it high end (4090RTX etc) and have no real interest to game on console. However, if GTA6 is exclusive to console for the first year or so, then for sure I would buy a PS5 Pro or whatever the best console to enjoy the game is.

Good, hopefully they add car totaling cuz i hate crazy drivers that can't drive. Its so annoying also can we get like Forza type driving I want realistic car driving so the game feels more like a racing game instead of a cheap driving sim.

I wonder how annoying the car fuel system will be like having to get fuel after driving a few miles and need to refuel again and again. GTA games have done better without the fuel.

I'd like to just say. Think of the surrounding features than what you see. Why do you have to wear a mask? Why might you have to get a get-away car? Well, the first answer is pretty much known, but is that it? Cameras? What if they have someone that can give a description of you because you didn't wear a mask while robbing a store, and that's how the picture ended up on your wanted poster? Is CCTV's logic like "No Man's Sky" where the storms are world wide? What I mean by this is, what if you're in a location where cctv cannot see you? Because you committed a crime without wearing a mask, do you automatically get outed? What if no one's around? The NMS correlation is that it's kinda unrealistic to get outed by a crime you commit only because you're not wearing your mask. It's the world wide storm logic. The second answer to why you might need a get-away car would be car identification, meaning the police might be able to identify you by your license plate from the car you own. This could be a reason why you'd get a get-away car to rob a convenience store.

Not enough people care to implement fuel consumption and other such things globally, this is more like an mmo incovenience that developers then offer/ sell a convenience to counter it, so it becomes an overpriced modification to buy on vehicle mods (another grind per vehicle) or certain paid content adjusts or counters it. Christ they're going to do it to sell more shark cards. I hope not but odds are...

I'm upgrading to a PS5 this fall anyways. GTA 5 on the PS5 I heard is stellar. On a a side note... Am I the only one who gets aggravated when there's GTA V footage of someone driving and they drive like absolute SHIT?

I personally dont mind refueling. I just worry about the fuel amount a vehicle consumes. would you need to refuel boats? aircraft too? its a tricky one. And what does it add ? immersion? at what cost? and is it worth it? I'm sure these questions have been long standing ones @RockstarNorth since GTAIII.

Gow ragnarok and forbidden west arent true ps5 games. Its cross gen. Gta 5 (ps3 game to its core) to gta 6 (ps5) will be a noticeable jump, especially if youre not into westerns and skipped rdr2. As far as gta franchise itll be the biggest jump since gta sa to 4.
