@@trajan6927 You've got to be kidding. Ever listen to "Venus in Furs?" Check it out. I will grant, however, that much of the brilliance of that song comes from John Cale, who was out of the Velvets after the second album. Still, on his own, Reed wrote some great songs like "Rock n Roll," "Sally Can't Dance," and many others. I think. He's not a good singer or a particularly good guitarist, but he's a very good songwriter.

@chicklets4ever51 first Reed is never considered a good or great singer, nor a good or great guitar player, nor a great performer, nor a hit maker, nobody ever says that Reed influenced them, Reed never makes any kind of list from musicians, or anybody in the industry and for Reed to dis The Mighty Who is really laughable. Zep blows the Who straight out of the water. Page can play circles around Townshend, Jones can play circles around Entwhistle (and is excellent on keyboards as well), and Bonham, while similar to Moon in style, varies his power drumming better than Keith. Between Daltry and Plant it's kind of a toss-up, though I think Robert is much more intelligent and sensitive than Roger. But the real kicker is that Page, compositionally, is several galaxies beyond Townshend, who never gets beyond basic major-minor sequences, the perfect accompaniment to his navel-gazing, cringeworthy lyrics.

I've seen The Who twice: at Charlton Football Ground in 1974 (which was disappointing - they were struggling with the backing tapes for Quadrophenia), and at Parkhead in 1976, which was, and still is, one of the best gigs I've ever seen; in their prime, they were untouchable. I agree with Robert Plant, though: they should've knocked it on the head when Keith Moon died... ☝️😎
