Nice video. I love my 6s and use it everyday. I was using just the 3 plate for all 3 passes since I got the razor about a year ago. About 3 weeks ago I switched to doing the 4, 3, 2 plates in that order and have been getting the best shaves I have ever got. No weepers, no irritation no nicks or cuts. Have a great weekend.

I only use the various plates on my 6S to adjust it to suit various blades. I use Feathers and BIC on 3, Treet platinum on 4, Treet carbon on 5 or 6. I find that more useful than swapping plates around during a shave.

This reminds me so much of a friend who as a motorcyclist only has and enjoys pre 80s Europeon and Japanese street bikes that have reliable old school kick starters ,that work well regardless of bad,dying batteries in them ,and free of the 80s much more modern electronics etc in them . Great shave Heiko! I think you were right to take the careful approach this way you can get another shave tomorrow and slowly ramp up the aggression rather than hurt yourself and have to take days off shaving. Tip: Your Proraso bowl is too deep because it is not really meant to be used as a lathering bowl, it is made to hold a puck of soap in like barbers do. Typically you would leave your soap puck in there (which would make the bowl less deep) and have it sit on the side of your sink, when you want to shave you grab your bowl by the handle swirl your brush a couple times to load and face lather. Very handy for week days when you work and want to go quick and not waste time bowl lathering and washing and putting away the bowl. I actually do exactly this, I got into wet shaving because of the low waste movement and I only buy soap refills from brands that don't ship it with a plastic tub, I push the soap in my apothecary style mug and it stays in until I've used it all. I perform my shave like described above.
@Heiko-shaves
@Heiko-shaves Жыл бұрын
That is a good point. I will try the bowl with a puck at the bottom just as you described. Thank you.

The Rockwell 6 series is so good it almost feels like I am cheating when I shave. Fantastic shave today, looking for ward to see how the daily shaves go. I have two 6Cs and One 2C (I'm to lazy to change the plates during a shave). I've adopted JohnShaves101 practice of lower to higher on each pass.(he only does that with an adjustable, but, I use 3 different razors) So I keep my 6Cs out in a 4, 5 and 6 plate so I can do the 3 passes in that order. So far the best thing I can think of to do with the 1/3 plate is drive it out to the desert or middle of the ocean and drop them there.🤣Cheers and good to see you home safe. Congratulations on the SinatraLennon shout out!

Great video. I just ordered a 6s from Razor Emporium (Rex Razor) and I am having them Polish the finish before shipping. I've heard the 6c shaves a little better because it is smoother than a bead blasted finish. However I like to buy American so my answer was to have the 6s polished by Matt and his co-workers. This way I get the best of both worlds.

I think you are right. That is probably what the designer envisioned the plates to be used for. Not changing in the middle of a shave but rather changing it from day to day.

I sort of cheated and bought the 2C and then bought the 2/4 plate separately - so I suppose I have a 4C… Anyway, the 3/2 plate combination is my comfortable sweet spot. Plate 3 for WTG, and 2 for the rest. It was really is a very smooth, very comfortable, easy to use razor. Changing plates isn’t a hassle - as you demonstrated - and for me, the Rockwell is easily a daily driver. Great shave Heiko! Welcome to the Rockwell Fan Club.
@Heiko-shaves
@Heiko-shaves Жыл бұрын
I wonder if the 6C/4c performs differently. I have now heard the complaint about the stainless version a few times that the head isn't as slick or smooth as the chrome plated or otherwise coated version. What do you think? I could get a 2c and then just use the 6c plates on it to get the full range of adjustment.
@LawrenceWhitaker
@LawrenceWhitaker Жыл бұрын
@@Heiko-shaves You have the 6S, which is the stainless steel version. The 2C and 6C are chrome over zamac and brass (I think), and I think there are some engineering differences, meaning that the plates from chrome series won't fit the stainless. I could be wrong though. Has anyone else tried it? I bought my 2C for something like $30, and the 2/4 C plate cost me $9. The C series is VERY smooth - almost like glass going over the skin, and the rounded design of the safety bar is extremely comfortable. I think what leads some to say the 6S is a bot harsher is that the blasted satin finish creates a bit more friction, meaning you have rely on the soap's lubrication. By contrast, the C series works with it.
@Heiko-shaves

after our little conversation here I already bought a 6C so I can compare it to the 6S. I will also find out if parts are interchangeable.

Welcome back. I have a few lather bowls that I use, but I am always looking for a better ones. I went an Indian market and got some small stainless steel bowls and a copper curry bowl. They all work well. Face lathering does not require a large brush, but bowl lathering requires a longer and fatter brush. For bowl lathering, I use a 24mm Omega bristle brush that is long enough that is does not fall into the bowl or hit the sides while lathering. Great shave,with the Rockwell. I might have to get one of those…
@Heiko-shaves

the Rockwell is a quality razor. Definitely one of the great designs. The DSCosmetic brush is already one of the longer ones I have but I think the bowl is just a bit deep.

good shave and thanks for the review on the Rockwall 6s and the Proraso professional bowl. I am looking forward to get both these by Amazon soon, and it will be my first SS razor which looks cool and made in US so I’m sold. I think the Proraso bowl would work really well with the Proraso or Omega large shaving brush - think it’s the professional size meant for professional Italiano shaves at the barber shop

Welcome back Heiko! I have had experience with the Rockwell 6S and 6C. You will find a lot of varying opinions that's for sure. I bought both because of all the hype. But as you will find, there is currently a lot of competition. When these came out about 5 or 6 years ago, there wasn't as much choice as there is now. Quality of materials and construction aside, I found the quality of shave using the 6S mediocre. The bead blasted finish felt somewhat like shaving with a stone surface. The two sided base plates made the head somewhat bulbous, and if not paying attention, the orientation of the blade could do some damage, if you accidently bonked or touched your face inadvertently, a nasty cut could result. The glide improved a lot when using the much smoother surface of the 6C., but still dialing in the perfect shave with the right selection of base plate was never achieved. I had better shaves and perfect shaves using a vintage tech or superspeed than I did with the Rockwell. Fast forward six years, the competition is coming out with highly polished 316 stainless steel razors with a lot less cost and better performance than Rockwell. Use it for a couple more weeks and see for yourself. Life everything in wet shaving YMMV. Take care!

That is interesting. This is my sentiment exactly after the first shave especially the part that I have had perfect shaves with a Gillette tech right out of the box but not with the 6S. I will keep experimenting with it and see how it goes.

@@Heiko-shavesWith Tech you mean your travel Tech with the Mini-Me handle? Just shows, you don't need a $100 razor to get a great shave. In general I prefer mild shavers like the Tech and Super Speed - my daily driver is the Weishi 9306-F (short handle), it has a bit more blade exposure/bite than my Tech/Super Speed but is mild enough with its small gap so I never cut myself when in a hurry. Please tell me, which do you like better shave-wise so far, the 6s or the Wilkinson/Weishi TTO?

I would honestly love to try out the Rockwell 6C / 6S but I've seen people saying that the threading/screw broke and also i'm a bit clumsy with my hands and that design scares me because I always feel like I am going to cut myself while trying to put the razor together, also as you said the Razor isn't "Adjustable" but it isn't "Non-adjustable" which would refer to what I call a "Semi-Adjustable" razor
