The music defines the genres, not the other way around. They're not just empty names, but representative of specific elements we assign to them (like texture, composition...) so it's easier to talk about and find the stuff, nothing more... well, at least that's how it's supposed to work, before some producers start to "paint by numbers" and templates.

I felt the same but I don't think Rockwell was really trying to make "drum and bass" with this one, it's very experimental and off-beat, but it has an appeal to it, and it definitely grows on you.

I may be standing out of the crowd with this one but rockwell (and 'aria' especially) is way to IDMish to me. And I am true IDM guy who was raising up with that music and loves it with whole his heart. Yet, Aria is too IDMish for me to be a dnb tune and too - idk, boring and nihili novi perhaps? - to be and idm track that can stand on its own. Don't get me wrong, but i've heard tunes like that about thousand times already and the overall impression isn't good. Again, rest of the EP is a A grade.
