Rocky--incredible! His beautifully fluid coloratura and full, ringing tone puts Florez to shame. Those two high Ds are dazzling. He has everything! (the chorus, on the other hand....) Bravo, Blake!!! How we would love ot hear a voice like this today.

WOW!!!! I'd say they're close to the best Top Cs I've heard in this aria, and wow 7:15 and the top D at 7:51!!!! Yes, ghastly english and thankfully opera has left the 80s well behind :) Young Rocky: simply wonderful!!!!

I'll disagree with you there, the English is really good in my opinion. Contrast it with the English National Opera's Rigoletto, for example, where the English was terrible (and that's being polite).

La versión eb inglés está muy conseguida y no desmerece en nada al original. Alguien sabe quien hizo el trabajo y si es reciente o ya se hizo en vida de Rossini. Blake sensacional, increíble. This is really great, just one little thing: They cut some parts out of the choir parts in the aria. Otherwise, it's awesome singing by a real master of classical singing.

unusual language, but still showing all his singing beauty, even in english, and it's much harder there. In the recitatives, some laughter was heard, seemed like a comedy first, but then it finished totally professional.

To answer the most prominent question, why is this in English? Simple. To attract a diminishing American audience that wants to understand the story. As a tenor myself forced to sing in horribly translated operas, I must admit this translation is quite good- the whole aura has a feeling of Sigmund Romberg. I actually prefer the young Rocky here over the later one (and more robust vocally) which is performed in Italian. Cheers.
