Rockwool Safe n Sound in my StudioBricks Booth!

Hi, I'm June Yoon. I'm a Korean voice actor in Los Angeles. As you may or may not be aware, the booth needs additional treatment for character work. Rockwool Safe n Sound is the most optimal method.

Interesting! I went with extra Vicoustic to cover those areas and have the same Auralex LNERD bass trap as yours in the corner.

Hi Joon! Thank you for posting this. I am a little concerned that some of the roc wool might escape through the open sides of the pillow cases and enter your lungs. I was watching the video thinking: the key will be how he will close the pillow cases. I was expecting you to double fold them shut and stitch them super tight with a sewing machine. To my surprise: nothing. I am concerned for your lungs. Please consider some improvements. All the best to you and greetings from Spain!

Thank you for the comment! Sorry I didn’t see it until now. Rockwool is comprised of mineral fiber and not fiberglass like other insulation material. Indeed, care must be given when handling this stuff, but it is not as dangerous. And my latest booth video is about making acoustic panels where it is indeed fully sealed! :D But correct - closing up the pillowcases is a good idea, but they do not have to be hermetically sealed either. To be safe, though, and to exercise caution, indeed closed pillow cases would be better.

@@JuneYoon_ thanks for sharing Joon and good luck with the new project! Sorry for my concern, As breathing in and out is the single most important activity in the vocal booth, it would be so tragic if for some sad reason this breathing in and out would actually cause long term harm to any artist.

Thank you!! This is great! I've just started building a vocal booth out of a PVC pipe frame and I think this will work great. I was going to just sandwich the Rockwool between layers of moving blankets folded over horizontal sections of pipe, but I love the pillow case idea as an extra layer. Is the Rockwool really that itchy? I know you don't want to breathe it in anyway. Fortunately, I'm putting the "booth" in a corner of my unfinished basement that has two solid concrete walls.

Happy to be of help. Indeed, you don't want to handle this with bare hands and skin - it's quite itchy. I would also recommend a mask. Do as I say, not as I do. xD

@@JuneYoon_ Rockwool is an awesome product! I've specified it in house design when clients want more quiet at certain areas.

Honestly, not at all: just a sort of dust smell, but not offensive. It's that smell of an old place at most
