Exactly. Rocky didn't care, why should we. I would bet that if it ended with Rocky winning, it does not win Best Picture. Butkis, Cuff & Link, and Stallone actually created an empire out of this. There's no way a Stallone movie shouldn't be made. If they do Elton John and Freddie Mercury, why not Rocky Stallone?

They don’t show the decision because it doesn’t matter. That’s why it’s in the background. He went the distance and wants to celebrate it with the only person that he told his goal to: Adrian. It’s a love story that has nothing to do with boxing at the end of the day.

At the end Rocky is so beat up and Adrian loses her hat while running through the crowd to him. Rocky doesn't care about how beat up he is but more concerned about why Adrian's hat is because he is so in love with her. They kiss and hug and the movie freeze frames at that moment. The moment that marked the peak in Rockys life. The swelling of the music and the drums was iconic and great to end the movie.

Frankly, I'm surprised Toni wasn't more into the underdog story that Rocky was. THIS IS NOT BASHING TONI! I love this channel and look forward to David and Toni's reactions. Both are kind, caring and funny people. Who wouldn't want to know these folks as their neighbors or friends. However, besides her usual paying attention to minor things of a film (puppies, furniture, landscaping, wallpaper, hairstyles, clothes, etc.), these types of films should appeal to her charismatic and softer side since it's based in our modern world. Then, I realized something very telling. It doesn't matter if it's set in the future, ancient Rome, another country, etc.,. If the protagonist has a dramatic love or family aspect, whatever they may do during the film - no matter how violent or absurd - it's a better film for her. Gladiator, The Patriot, Interstellar, Armageddon, Cinderella Man...name a film where the adult hero has a major love / parental slant to it - she's onboard at the end. The violence is a vehicle to the hero's right to exact justice or to protect their family / friends. Usually I've seen other reactors who've been freaked out by the fight portion of Rocky, but they get the quality of storytelling here. It didn't win an Oscar for Best Picture for nothing. Sadly, I don't think she appreciated this classic film of struggle, loss, sacrifice and triumph. Rocky is an uneducated, compassionate man who used his fists to survive, but found more in life by finding love with Adrian. I would supposed starting with Rocky II, her perspective on the Rocky's world will change - especially when they reach Rocky IV - and perhaps conclude with Creed. I look forward to David and Toni's reaction to this series.

Yes we made a statue of a fictional boxer LOL It used to sit at the top of the Steps in his pose looking back at the city with fists raised. Then they moved it to the sports complex in South Philly. Stallone wrote the script to this movie and took to every single studio and they ALL loved it, but Stallone also wanted to play Rocky himself and NONE of the studios liked the idea of casting a complete unknown for this part. So time passed while he stuck to his guns knowing Rocky was the role of a lifetime for him. During this time, Stallone was so poor that he had to give away his own dog to someone else because he could scarcely afford to feed it, let alone himself. Finally an offer came through accepting him to act in the role as well. After he got his first paycheck, he went back to the guy he gave the dog to, and he would give Stallone his dog back, with two conditions. 1. He get $10,000. 2. The dog would appear in Rocky. That dog is Butkus in the movie, and Stallone said it was the best $10,000 he ever spent. Stallone's love of animals extends to more than just dogs though. Rocky's two turtle friends Cuff and Link are still alive 47 years later and even had a cameo in Creed II.

I am always surprised when reactors are surprised by the raw eggs. When I was young (1980s), it was pretty common for athletes to be downing raw eggs. Some Rocky movie trivia some others may have replied also.... the first fighter in the opening of the movie "Spider" was the same actor also in Rocky 6 and had become a friend and one of Rocky's charity cases he was helping. Stallone owned the dog in the movie, and sold his dog to raise money to sell his script to the studios and the dog appeared in the movie as Rocky's dog. One of the first things Stallone did was buy back his dog when he got a payday advance on the movie script and paid a lot more money to buy him back. Stallone still owns the turtles as of the last report on them... turtles live a long time.

"You're gonna eat lightnin' and you're gonna crap thunder!" Fun Fact: Theatrical movie debut of Michael Dorn, best known for playing Worf in the Star Trek franchise. Art Imitates Life Fact: Sylvester Stallone was inspired to write the screenplay after seeing the Chuck Wepner-Muhammad Ali fight on March 24, 1975, at the Richfield Coliseum in Richfield, Ohio, near Cleveland. The details of that fight is beyond the scope of this comment, but the Creed-Balboa fight parallels that fight in many ways. Making Lemonade Fact: In the film, the poster above the ring before Rocky fights Apollo (Carl Weathers) shows Rocky wearing red shorts with a white stripe when he actually wears white shorts with a red stripe. This was an actual mistake made by the props department that they could not afford to rectify, so Sylvester Stallone came up with the idea for the scene where Rocky points out the mistake himself. The comment about Rocky's robe being too baggy came about the same way - the robe delivered to the set was far too baggy for Stallone, so rather than hope people wouldn't notice, the character himself simply points it out. Guerrilla Filmmaking Fact: Most of the scenes of Rocky jogging through Philadelphia were shot with no permits, no equipment, and no extras. The shot where he runs past the moored boat for example, the crew were simply driving by the docks, and John G. Avildsen saw the boat, and thought it would make a good visual, so he had Sylvester Stallone simply get out of the van and run along the quays, while Avildsen himself filmed from the side door. A similar story concerns the famous shot of Rocky jogging through the food market. As he runs, the stall keepers and the people on the sidewalks can clearly be seen looking at him in bemusement. While this works in the context of the film to suggest they're looking at Rocky, in reality, they had no idea why this man was running up and down the road being filmed from a van. During this scene, the famous shot where the stall owner throws Rocky an orange was completely improvised by the stall owner, who had no idea that a movie was being filmed and that he would be in it.

A big part of why this movie works so well for me is that it avoids depending on the question of Rocky winning the big fight to generate drama. Rocky isn't in it to win a fight, he's in it to be a winner in a larger sense. That makes for a more compelling story than just showing if he can beat Apollo or not.

That is Stallone's dog in the movie. He bought him back, but the guy asked for much more money than he had given Stallone and wanted a part in the picture. I beleive he's the guy who tells Rocky that it's no longer his locker.

It's the promoter I think.
@zooks527
@zooks527 10 күн бұрын
@@Reardonsteel236 The promoter was Thayer David, a long time actor who had been in various productions since the 1950s. The dog is credited as "Butkus Stallone", right after Joe Frazier in the end credits. Looking around, a number of sources don't relate the new owner wanting a part in the film, although the "selling the dog and then getting him back" story appears to be true at least in part (dollar amounts vary). Urban legend perhaps.

Knowing Toni, I'll be very surprised if she doesn't cry at least once watching this. Rocky II though, she should bawl her eyes out several times. Rocky III at least once. Rocky IV at least once. Rocky V... probably not at all, let's be honest here. Rocky Balboa several times.

Stallone was photographed with the turtles in 2019; people, however, put two and two together and presumed he owned them. They were returned after filming wrapped. In 2017, The Philly Inquirer interviewed Joseph Marks, the former owner of J&M Tropical Fish, and reported that Marks "still owns the turtles, Cuff and Link, that Rocky bought at the fictional Adrian's pet shop in the film".

@@popculturallychallenged A 2021 Snopes fact-check rated the claim of ownership as false. It cited a 2006 Philly Inquirer article, which stated the turtles were returned to the pet store after filming wrapped for the first Rocky. The owner's nephew was reportedly caring for them in 2006. To be fair, Snopes didn’t confirm ownership between 2006 and 2021. However, the Philly Inquirer article I cited from 2017* clarifies the turtles were still in the care of the former shop owner's family. A great reaction by the way! Nice ducking and weaving; might want to work on that guard, however! * Philly Inquirer, "Owner of razed Kensington pet store recalls when Rocky came calling" [online article], published April 21, 2017.

I heard Carl Weathers (Apollo Creed) thought Sylvester Stallone was just some guy that was used for the fighting part of the audition.

The reason they don't focus on who won the fight is because that's secondary to the story, Rocky didn't care about the score, he accomplished what he set out to do and now he just wanted Adrian.. It's a perfect ending.

The reason they didn't do a better job showing Apollo winning is because winning or losing the fight was inconsequential to Rocky, especially when he was busy calling out for Adrian. So we show one shot of Apollo jumping for joy, but remain concentrated on what's important to Rocky. 'All I want to do is go the distance.' He meant it.
