On the flight line in the military we were not allowed to wear anything cortex, because it doesn't meet fire resistant specs. If you talk to pilots who have survived aircraft accidents which resulted in fires, leather is probably the best thing to be wearing. One school friend who survived a helicopter crash said if it weren't for his leather boots his feet would have been burned off.

In the 90s Rocky Mountains produced a boot called the Pro Hunter the model number was 9311 is 11.5 inches high it had a good solid knob sole on the bottom you can go for miles with them things can get them to go back to that night 9311 model and redo it it'd be great you can keep up with the production of it

Mine ripped the shit out of my heels no matter what I did. And they were the correct size. I also found the sole lacked cushioning. Moved them on.

I like my S2Vs, what I don't like is the current price point on them is all over the board - $120 - $200+ The retailer I had bought them from never has 13W in stock meaning I can't find another pair.

Yeah that's frustrating. From personal experience I know how good those boots are. Try talking to your unit deployment manager (I'm Air Force so I don't know if it's called something else for the branch you are in) and see if he can help you order one from either their catalog or refer you to a store like Envision. Military clothing stores can also special order items even if it's from the inventory from a nearby base and they've done it for me as recent as a month ago. You could also contact Rocky directly to see if they can help you out. I'd be very surprised if they don't get you the answer you need -- they are a helpful bunch.

I owned Rocky boots that I wore for 2 winter seasons only. Maybe 4 months total but the soles disintegrated and completely fell apart. I'm not sure if they design their boots to last 6 months only for Uncle Sam to foot the bill for new pairs constantly, but I sure will not be buying Rocky brand again.

Hm, I've owned mine for 3 years and they've lasted twice as long than my other boots. I paid a few bucks extra for the nice ones that I pointed out in the vid so I wonder if you had the same pair.

+BudgetBugout I dunno. Ive bought several pairs of rockies about 3 or 4 years ago back when I was in. Specifically when I transitioned from active duty to reserve. I went through 2 pair of S2Vs and a pair of C4Ts in the 2 years I reserved before I bought a single pair of Lowa Zephyrs. While the actual Rocky boots, tread and stitching, lasted maybe 6-7 months at reduced intensity (reserves) the Zephyrs are still going strong, original laces and everything, at the expense of practically zero tread. At least theyre not the pair of Oakley boots I took during deployment that literally took 2 months for the soles to completely fall off the boot, having to loop the laces around the bottom of the boot to tie them on.

i didnt have a problem with the soles but damned if the inside didnt fall apart, used them for about a year. i will stick to boots i have used a lot and know work good, bellville and danners

Yeah all my friends were buying those but when I saw my supervisor explain to my why he bought Rockys I spent my next clothing allowance on them and I've had them for a few years now. An investment yes but it ended up saving me from needing to buy a new pair when my next clothing allowance rolled around.

+BudgetBugout, Just quick thought for your bugout bag, One thing I learned in the Marine Corps; when it comes to changing your socks (if you're rucking it for awhile or you come into contact with some water) it's good to keep at least two pairs in a plastic bag with both pairs turned inside out, pouring in some baby/foot powder, and shaking it all around. Believe me, this stuff REALLY helps!

+Leonardo Baez that's the u.s. navy was for the longest time except you have to pay out of pocket for everything so they opened up the regulations on boots and some other items and i've been wearing the s2v's for about 3 months now with about 3 weeks on 12 hour shift work they're by far one of the best boots i've worn especially compared to the bates they used to make us wear with the supportive ankle and the goretex liner standing a 6 hour watch with 25ish pounds of gear isnt bad anymore plus they're great even when you're up on your up all day running around a submarine

I hate to say it, but I had a problem with Rocky boots. I had a pair that I used as a paramedic/firefighter for EMS runs. After I retired, they were put in the closet for a couple of years until I bought a new Harley in 2008. I went to the dealer to take delivery when the dealer asked if I wanted a new pair of boots. I started to decline until I looked behind me and saw the trail of crumbled rubber sole from my boots! Imagine my embarrassment as I had to fork over another $140.00 plus tax for a pair of Harley Davidson boots, just so I could get home! Sorry, Rocky, you lost me as a customer that day!
