This absolutely resonates! KZbin is full of ‘this is the only correct way to do it’ type of ‘teaching’ and it’s just not helpful, ‘support’ being one of the main things, but there are of course other big ones! From the things you’ve pointed out here (about support) I’ve gone from ‘I’ll just have to accept I’ll never get this’ to realising I’ve been on the right track! Also, from performing live for years, I totally agree with what you said about it being 50% of the game in rehearsal and live performance being another thing, I can’t thank you enough!

I'm glad it resonated with you - you get it! (many don't) they just want someone to tell them the 'only correct way' and not put in the work... But the work = the payoff.. thanks for taking the time to watch and comment! Much Love!

One thing you gotta understand… most of our favorite singers did not have the resources we did as far as vocal coaching, KZbin videos, etc. they got where they did by TIME IN. Endless experimenting, until they found what they wanted. One thing I know, is if it hurts, it’s wrong. Sustainability is EVERYTHING. Find the EASIEST way to make the sound you want, then refine, practice, refine, refine, practice, and REFINE again. Understand what the microphone does & how to utilize & use it to your ur advantage. Bon is my hero, too… I learned pretty much everything I know about rock singing from him & Dan McCafferty. I call them Scottish tenors… different from Irish Tenors in the sharp, raspy tone of the voice. Like a whiskey-soaked version of it. There is a SNEER element, & a trick to it. it’s a certain approach & style, and it takes time to figure out… but if you persevere, you will. I did… it just took dedication and commitment. Best of WORK, not luck… cuz that what it is all about. 🫡

I remember your tip on compression, it was a how to sing like Axl video, and the idea was to do it as if you were underwater. That little note helped me a lot in understanding how to move those muscles and I got better at it later with excercises. Its not always the hours you put in, sometimes its just that one little sentence that helps you connect. Your stuff aint half bad, so dont quit just yet. Cheers. Love your videos.

Cool, thanks! I'm only going to quit 'teaching'... I'm simply going to keep sharing what works for me and do my best not to say 'you gotta do this...' like most vocal 'coaches'

I always like your analogy of jumping under water and bracing yourself to describe that feeling of diaphragmatic support. As I think we discussed on our podcast I always feel my support coming from the muscles of my lower back and my “core” It’s not a stomach thing persay, you fill your lungs with air in a relaxed fashion but then the support comes from the core, not a pulling or pushing sensation but more just a general tensing and bracing of those core muscles
@RockYourBestVocals2 жыл бұрын
indeed, it's more about tensing the entire 'spare tire' area but it helps most people (beginners) to feel the front/abs to start... the lower back (kidney areas) is also very critical and the advanced singer will feel it there... it's about being conscious of this and knowing the feeling, isn't it?

Cornell is not pulling in. He’s pushing down on your example. That’s what abs do when you push down, but if you think pulling in you’re not going to get the right energy. It may look similar but it’s all how you think. Same with the king in your last example.
@RockYourBestVocals2 жыл бұрын
Wow hey Chris! Appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment! On the video of Cornell, his abs look to me to be pulling in, although without him being able to comment on what he is doing, I guess no one can be sure, can they? There are so many various interpretations of how it feels and looks that it can get confusing for beginners. In my case, after singing 30+ years live professionally it has always felt to me like a 'pulling in', and with coaching for over 20years professionally, my students get results with that method.

I love what you are talking about here! I personally feel that if you want to learn to sing from someone, look at their students, what they have achieved...what results came from the teachings...when people look at Dimash's abilities , they get that he has years and years of training, but a good singer would want to know who his voice teacher is, and how he/she can signe up to study with them! Love your reactions and please react to Dimash's War And Peace - any version except the ones from China- the sound is terrible in those videos! It is composed by Dimash - he hired a famous Chinese poet to write the lyrics so that he can be sure that they reflect what he wanted to express! I think k you would really enjoy it!!!

Yes, indeed! I agree totally! And a singer can really be either restricted or improved by a 'coach' so it's best to choose wisely
@blueorchidfeather2 жыл бұрын
And it is also important that if someone declares that they are a "teacher/coach" that they are also being a "student " at the same time! Once they have stopped being a student, then they 've closed themselves off from future growth and learning opportunities. I can't remember if it was Placid Domingo or Pavarotti When asked why he was still practicing and working with a vocal coach at his high age ( way past retirement age) ? And he replied that he's still getting there...

OMG I love this that you shared what Placido or Pavorotti said - so true! Thank you! I can't believe I didn't see this until just now.... 🙄💕

I love this video. I've been trying to become a singer for a long time and I finally found a really good coach out of South america. What we are learning is techniques from sweden. I have watched many KZbin tutorials also and you really just have to take the idea and try them and see how they feel. Check out Jizzy pearl he is from a few bands like love hate ratt and currently quiet riot. He had such an impressive voice when I saw them a few months ago he told me to check out his KZbin channel and he has some vocal lessons on there. Give those a shot. I still couldn't figure out how he was getting his tone. Lol
@RockYourBestVocals2 жыл бұрын
Wow, yeah I remember listening to Jizzy back when he was in Love/Hate! I'm watching his 'art of singing' series now thanks to you! I love hearing things like this (tips from people who have actually DONE it in the real world!) thank you so much - really appreciate it! His tone is very much based on the false vocal fold fry... with great support!

Eric Arceneaux is absolutely legit. Everything he says is worth gold. Seriously don't know who to believe? just listen how they sound when they sing. And Eric is one of the few who actually sounds like a professional singer and not amateur like most other vocal coaches on youtube.
@RockYourBestVocals2 жыл бұрын
Agree about Eric, he is one of my favorite and has a good heart in my opinion... he really comes off as if actually helping singers is his priority

Cool video. So does this mean that you breathe like the Lion and Cornell when you sing?
@RockYourBestVocals2 жыл бұрын
Is more about the exhalation/support really, but yes - as much as possible! If you try this, you will begin to understand... it takes years to get really good at it (Pavoratti was famous for saying 'it's really easy.... after 20 years' ;)

I like Chris Liepe currently but you’re right about the weird ab singing stuff. It’s biologically the same for everyone
@RockYourBestVocals4 ай бұрын
I like Chris too! He's great at taking a beginner through the steps to find out how to use their voice without inhibition - very brave and admirable approach! My video was more about the total contradiction amongst KZbin "teachers"... a beginner could really be confused by all the contradictions which could cause more problems than these people are trying to solve... thanks for taking the time to watch and comment!

Ken Templin shows the right support ?
@RockYourBestVocals Жыл бұрын
Hi Roma, I'm not sure if you are asking me, or telling me (?) 🤔 If you are asking, then yes in my opinion Ken's method that he demonstrated is more like what I feel works for me and also in line with many of the classical singers, however they would not 'bounce' the diaphragm like he did (but I think he just did that for demonstration purposes)... ideally, the 'proper way' is to simply maintain that support and not bounce - see my other video where I talk about how Bon Scott sings here (I talk about his excellent support) kzbin.info/www/bejne/fmLRlHR6hKqpqJY

@@RockYourBestVocals What Ken says is very confusing, but in this video I think he is telling the truth, and you can also feel it when you are standing in the plane. Thank you ! kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4C3lGeCbtuIjbc (5:00)
