Thank you! I always did like the blob brush but filling it in was such a pain in the neck. Now I just outline, select the inner, and delete, easy as that! You really helped streamline my production! you're a great teacher but you ramble on and on at the beginning so much that I skipped to the action after a minute.

Can i use a different kind of brush (like with texture) using blob brush? Will it still do the same just like what the calligraphy brush do?
@NoraEtoile6 жыл бұрын
Hi thanks for your wonderful video! I have a question regarding the blob brush fill and stroke, which one do you use to change a swatch color? the fill for the background color and the stroke for outline? correct? But how do you do it? Select your swatch color first then, proceed to your selection of fill or stroke depending on what is needed? I always get them confused and would love some clarification. Again, thanks for your video!

You EFFIN ROCK Rocky! I've drawn decent stupid cartoons all of my life. And made a career doing "graphic design" CPG packaging. With a little practice, I bet I can actually be a bona fide illustrator. Multiple times as I'm taking notes I catch myself saying "Holy F*CK this kid is brilliant!!!" Hope some of my client's will say the same thing about this old man. Rocky showed me the way - bestest so far. Peace.

Thank you for the tutorial, but I have problem, its not working when I tried to color inside a shape(circle) the color its not automatically filling inside , I mean it should just fill the color inside once you brushed on it right? It should go on the back of the circle, mine its overlapping when I tried to brush color inside the circle. Please help..thank you in advance.

Hov often do you make new layer. I am new in this
@RockyRoark4 жыл бұрын
Not often believe it or not, I don't use a ton of layers in Adobe Illustrator.
@irenebirgita4 жыл бұрын
When you add fill colour, did you do in new layer ?
@marygartner51954 жыл бұрын
irene birgita I noted that he did not use a separate layer when he filled color in using the “color behind mode”. Once he finished his base color he locked that layer, then created a separate layer to add his shadows using the multiply blend mode with an opacity of 35%. I’m learning too. Correct me if I missed something.

Hey cool tut. Just a question since it's my 2nd day with the tablet and illustrator. For the black outlines of your character, is that just the default pressure sensitive pencil or is it a specific brush preset? Thanks, Looks really cool!
@gebbygebbers3 жыл бұрын
To my lost comrades (who need a quick search result)! Shift + E for an eraser that is not restricted to strokes, paths or fill shapes. Works just like a classic eraser brush! (Remember to select the thing you're trying to clean up, otherwise it will affect the rest of the drawing) Shift + B for the blob brush tool, B for regular paintbrush!

I'm wondering what program are you using to record and zoom into what you're explaining Rocky?
@FrancescaCostyea6 жыл бұрын
It looks like sometimes you colour outside of the lines, but it still manages to end up all within the lines, I saw this happening a bit with the eyes. How did you do that? Apologies if already answered.
@RockyRoark6 жыл бұрын
So what you're seeing there is the brush is getting super close to the edge of the stroke but not going all the way to the edge. Since the stroke is above it its not showing the white, but if we probably zoomed in really close there would be a little bit of white showing. Sometimes we have to go back through and clean up the illustration a bit when we're finished depending on what the illustration is going to be used in. (: Does that make sense?

yes thankyou :)

Hi there. You mention in your intro that you use an iPad pro with Apple Pencil to do your illustrations. But you seem to be using an Mac version of illustrator to demonstrate the blob brush. I'm a bit confused. Are you using your Apple Pencil, on an iMac?
@RockyRoark7 жыл бұрын
Hey there! So I'm using my iMac paired with my iPad Pro and Apple Pencil. In order to do this I use Astropad Studio which basically mirrors my iMac onto the iPad Pro. (:

thanks for the tutorial! I am having a hard time using the bold tool for inking because it leaves lots little lines for clean up... is this normal? or if there is anyway I can improve this? I took a screen shot in the outline mode : imgur.com/a/tKWz2px
@marygartner51954 жыл бұрын
Jennifer Wu he used the pencil and smooth tool to clean up the blob messes. He said he often uses the pencil to go back in and edit areas where needed, like gaps in the blob brush lines.
