The EPA has made owning a diesel powered vehicle so much fun.

2015 ram 1500 here with 102k miles. I have an iDash and Pedal Monster along with a Green Diesel Engineering tune. I can tell you a Pedal Monster along with GDE makes it a rocket sled. What Rocky says is 100% true about having an engine monitor. The typical dashboard is really dumbed down. By the time a regen shows up on the truck's dash, it's about maxed out, and you do NOT want to be in town stuck at lights when it happens. With an iDash, it's never a surprise. I watch the DPF level. If it's getting "up there" I will start a mobile regen (right from the iDash) and take a freeway run on the way home. That way, it's at 8% in the driveway, instead of 79% and at risk of starting a regen when I'm going to work and be parked soon. A monitor helps a lot in planning routes around soot levels. The GDE tune itself slows regens waaaay down, but it's still a diesel with emission parts, so it's gonna regen whether you want it to or not. Many people scream "Delete it!" but the time is a' coming when a cop will see a truck rolling coal, and it'll be loaded on a flatbed/impounded and banned from the road. The laws are starting to catch up.

Wow great response. I have a 2020 Denali HD. 25k miles currently, lots of short trips. Was considering a monitor just to gain info. Looking at the Edge insight. The whole regen carbon burn thing is real. Ya I struggle with dealerships as well.

Mind sharing what other bank products your using along with the idash ?
@CS-rb9jkАй бұрын
Nice explanation.... I've got the IDash for my 24 LP5, what engine setting are you using? I can't find the Regen option. When I called Banks they said they are currently working on an update to get the IDash to read all the ECM and TCM data.

Still waiting on update also. I have the beta firmware on it now.

Use the top right arrow, go to "diagnostics", select "vehicle", then on the bottom, select "mobile regen". Hope that helps.

Did you sell the ford? If so why?

I did trade the ford in.. Pros and cons to both trucks. I’ll try to make a video soon but I am extremely happy with the Denali.

Do the monitoring devices affect your warranty? I'm not talking about the reprogramming ones.

I can tell you first hand as I did own a 2020 2500hd LTZ L5P, the stealerships of GM do track what mods you put on your truck. The idash does a great job of telling you what is going wrong with your diesel truck. Loved it as it pointed out where you are at and within % of DBF being full prior to a regen. You can also run a regen moving or stationary (if you are over 90% if I remember correctly). What this really helps you with is all the short trips you take. So a regen on the L5P takes between 20 to 25 minutes. If you run short trips over and over again, a regen that gets kicked off by the GM computer may not complete. This makes your DBF get to the point where it can't be cleaned not even running a regen will take care of it. So a replacement is needed. So with the idash, you can kick off a regen when you see your DBF gets to a point where you can drive it for 20 to 25 minutes to clean it out. Just telling you, sort regens make the DBF really bad. Also, if you do have a problem with the EGR, full injectors, DBF, etc and they catch you with a derringer attached, you will most likely get your warranty pulled. Also, if they catch you with fuel additives they can also pull your warranty. Hot Shots is not on their list of approved additives. Just saying... If you have the banks intake several different stealerships will not work on codes that are specific with anything close to be near the intake. I had 52 codes pup up from new till I got rid of it with 61k miles. On a side note, most of the GM techs didn't know there are 9 grease fittings in the front of a 2500hd. If you take it in for service, you will need to either watch them, check on their work afterwards, or just do it yourself on that. At the end of the day, I had two different service managers just tell me to just delete it, which I refused and traded it off on a 7.3L F350.
