What a beautifully orchestrated work in an equally fine performance. Balance and depth in the engineering are first-rate. The Adagietto and Larghetto are particularly lovely.....

Morning Max...and probably the only time that the title Valse d'amour appears in Reger's output.

Rodders, Evening...my, how tempus fugits! Reger is a remarkable composer, isn't he? I say that only really knowing the orchestral works. I'm no Reger expert but I always remember my first hearing of the Bocklin tone poems back in the mid-1970s and being very taken with them.....I can hear bits of Debussy in the ballet suite, by the way.

Max, I can imagine Reger's publisher reviewing the Ballet Suite and wondering 'where is the counterpoint?'

Rodders, The Austro-Germanic tradition in music, eh? Reger was very much a part of that but the lure of Russian Romanticism and, possibly, French refinement must have been tempting....

Wonderful performance of an undisputed masterpiece. I'm fond of this work for almost 40 years. Why do we have to resort mostly to old recordings when we want to enjoy Reger's orchestral compositions? How many recordings of Reger's magnificent Hiller Variations are existing?
