My thoughts after using the Rode NTG4+ shotgun mic, Rode boom pole and Rode blimp. Check out the pros and cons of each!
Excuse the bumps on the desk, normally I'd have this mic in a shock mount on the boom pole overhead, but... well.. that's on my desk at the moment. Audio is UNedited besides a slight raise of the volume, recorded straight into the C200.

Nice review, I have been using the rode NTG 4+ for about 2 years and it has served me well, although I don’t have the blimp and boom pole because they are expensive. I must confess the sound from microphone is very good and the battery life is amazing

Definitely very hard to complain about the mic, especially for the price :)

do you have the ntg4 pluged into the h4n , chanel input 1 only or you have a y cable going into input 1 and 2 for stereo?
@ScottDumas

YoungBlaze I have it plugged into channel 1 only with the h4n set to mono mix to get audio on both left and right.

Scott Dumas yeah? Somebody told me to get a y cable xlr that plugs into the 1 and 2 channel at the same time then it has a output to the mic for stereo

That could be one option, but the mono mix setting has worked fine for me so far and seems simpler... Definitely more than one way to skin a cat though :)

Hi.. Your explanation is soo good and deserve for more subs. I just subscribed your channel. Question: just now I started youtube channel. Till now I created content of both voiceover video's and on camera mystery video's. Now I want to upgrade my mic from boya M1 to shotgun mic which will be helpful both for my voiceover videos and on camera video's. Please suggest me best one in all over..? My pickup's are Rode NTG4plus, rode video mic pro plus, deity d3 pro, sennheiser mke 600 to use it with my zoom h5. Thanks alot in advance🙏🙏

Hi! Thank you so much :) Those are all nice choices for shotgun style mics, my pick would be either the Sennheiser or even the S-Mic 2 from Deity which wasn't listed, but it does depend on how the mic sounds for your particular voice as well. What works for me may not be the best of the group for you. If you need something that sits on top of your camera rather than a boom pole, the D3 Pro is a great choice and my personal pick. Not a shotgun mic, but I've also really loved the Shure SM7B for voiceover and talking head type stuff as well, so it might be worth considering. The price isn't bad either, but you should get a Fethead or Cloudlifter to boost the signal before going into the H5. Not sure if that helps, but let me know if you have any other questions! :)

Thanks for the video. I just got my Marantz ZP-1 microphone blimp and am eager to try it out with my new Audix SCX1 mic this weekend, recording our tennis match. I'm hoping the blimp and the included shock mount will do a good job reducing wind noise and the low frequency rumbling noise I'm getting.

Thanks for watching! That's great, let me know what you think of the Marantz, I was considering it myself :)

I like the Marantz ZP-1 fine except I can't figure out how to attach the rear cap without the XLR cable getting in the way. It looks like the Rode blimp has a hole for the XLR cable based on your video? Here's a picture of the rear of my Marantz blimp. photos.app.goo.gl/1pDyRh965fmnsass8 Any help with figuring out how to screw in the rear cap without the XLR cable in the way is appreciated.

I solved the problem with my Marantz ZP-1. I had the rail installed backwards on the blimp housing. On the back of the rail there is a rubber cable clip that the XLR cable clips onto, allowing space for the rear cap to be tightened onto the back of the blimp. photos.app.goo.gl/BiUL1UtaGUX7wmZb6

Hey thanks so much and sorry for my delay in replying. The comments got flagged as spam at first and I didn't notice them. I appreciate the links and photos as well! Glad to hear you're happy with it, I'll definitely check it out myself :)

Does it sound noisier by using the internal battery instead of external phantom power?

I don't have this anymore (returned it to Rode) so can't test it again to be sure- but I did use it both ways and don't remember hearing any noticeable difference. I didn't listen super carefully though so don't take my word for it 100%

Thanks for this video. I bought a fiber Rode Boompole Pro, but I don't find how to put the cable through (so inside) the boompole. I see you can unscrow the top of the pole, but then what? Do you got any suggestions?
@ScottDumas
@ScottDumas 5 жыл бұрын
Hi! I'm not 100% positive but if the XLR connector doesn't fit through you might have to actually run a cable through the pole (without the connectors on the end, just bare cable) and then solder on the connectors yourself after the cable is in the pole (or ask a shop to do it for you). The boom pole in this video is different, but I think the process might be the same. Maybe it can help you get an idea what would need to be done: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gGbRm4OJftx9hq8 Hope that helps!

I have the same mic that i have plugged into the c200 but it makes a hissing noise even with the high frequency filter own is this normal?
@ScottDumas
@ScottDumas 5 жыл бұрын
Definitely doesn't sound normal... I'd check the connection/cable with another mic if possible to see if the problem is in the mic or somewhere else

Question, do you know if the Rode Blimp will work for the Sennheiser MKH416 Shotgun Mic? Thanks a million for any feedback!
@ScottDumas
@ScottDumas 6 жыл бұрын
Nic Conner Images it should! The sennheiser is 19mm diameter and 250mm long, the blimp can hold up to 325mm long and 19-22mm in diameter :)

Question: can I use my Aputure Deity Vmic D3 Pro with the Rode Blimp ?
@ScottDumas
@ScottDumas 5 жыл бұрын
You shouldn't have any problems, especially with the XLR adapter, but it is a little long (the blimp). I recently tested out the Rycote Super Shield version, and it might be a better option because you can get a shorter version. Then, if you need a longer one for another mic, you can just get another front "pod" and don't need to replace the entire thing. Anyway, with the XLR adapter it might be a little "messy" inside with the extra cable, but it should definitely work :)

Can i have direct sound to headphone when recording?
@ScottDumas
@ScottDumas 5 жыл бұрын
It would depend what recorder or camera you're using. Most do have a headphone out jack so you could use that to monitor audio, but not directly from the microphone itself.

@@ScottDumas thanks my frd, so its more like a 3.5mm jack from the zoom recorder as immediate output monitoring, that completes the picture

If you need a boom mic that handles wind noise well, this would be great :) Of course, the mic inside could really vary depending on what suits the actors voice or that particular application.

Can we put aux cable inside this boom pole?
@ScottDumas
@ScottDumas 6 жыл бұрын
You can but the top opening is too narrow for the XLR portion to fit through so you'd have to take that apart and put it back together in order to feed the cable through here. Kind of a hassle, but if you can do it then it works.
