Thank you for the video! For my ears Videomic ntg sounds better, but what's confusing me is that it doesn't have balanced output. I'm afraid that there might be some problems if you want to connect it to external recorder and use on a mic stand. Did you try to use Videomic ntg this way?
@ScottDumas
@ScottDumas 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! And I think you're exactly right... I actually don't have it on hand anymore to test, but the non-balanced output would easily cause problems in those situations. The deity would be more suited towards that type of use.

How do you like the VideoMic NTG compared to the Deity S-Mic 2S. I had the latter for about a week and the noise on mine was so high it was unusable. Deity didn't respond to my messages so I just sent it back.

The rode videomic ntg arrived to me yesterday and in my opinion it is really bad. In totally silent environments it suffers from a very high background noise
@ScottDumas
@ScottDumas 5 жыл бұрын
I'm really sorry to hear that. I didn't experience that to any noticeable degree, maybe it could be the combination of gain settings on the mic/camera? I did all real world tests not super careful quiet environment tests but I really didn't notice anything at all.

@@FrancescoSignorini11 It's hard to say without hearing it myself, but I'd say try turning the mic up more and the camera down lower. The mic may have a better pre-amp and 5 is only 1/3 of how high it can go, so you have more room to push it, avoiding noiser preamps in the camera itself.

Hey, thanks so much :) If you're using it on camera and you'll be close, the D3 is an amazing value for the money. You could save and still get great results. The D3 pro and NTG just add on features which ARE nice (especially adjustable gain knobs, for example) but not totally necessary. Hope that helps :)

Scott Hi! Do you think the Videomic NTG could work with recording piano + singing? Its just to record myself with my samsung s10 with the rode connected, and in a quiet room I mean that I would have the phone and the mic like less that 30 cm close to me . I'm pretty insecure about which option for this situation it's better.
@ScottDumas
@ScottDumas 4 жыл бұрын
Hi! I think as long as it's close like you said it should work pretty well, although I'm not sure how it would pick up the balance of piano and voice together. In any case it could easily be better than the phone's built in mic, but which others are you considering?

@@ScottDumas thank you for the reply. Emm I've checked the sennheisser MKh 416 or 418s and both of them sound amazing! But they are completely out of my budget and also I would need an interface for the phantom power. So that's why I was considering the videomic NTG cause as I've seen it's easily connected to a smartphone or camera without any preamp or interface. This is just to record some videos for my Instagram but I did some tests with the built in mic of the S10 and it doesn't sound well. As I've seen in the NPR videos, they use the sennheiser mkh 418s to record voice and instrument and it sounds like in a studio but again it's so expensive!
