Thank you! I only use the recordings from the transmitters and never use the receiver (at least not yet) and have been having an awful time with the levels peaking and couldn't figure out how to lower the sensitivity. I just now turned on PAD and hopefully it will solve my issues going forward.

@@GaryDmedia it was still bad. I have peaking like crazy with it about a foot from my mouth. It's fine for normal speaking, but doing high energy announcing, I'm blowing this thing out. The worst part is that you don't know what you've got until playback which you can't do until you export. I'm sure if I get it farther away I'll be fine but it's definitely an experimental process. Maybe if I use the windscreen.
@taghappytv2 жыл бұрын
@@dandyfunhouse I have been in contact with Rode regarding this issue as I find the input signal very sensitive. In short, they said Pad only drops the input sensitivity by -4db. What's unfortunate is if the audio clips on the way in any sort of safety track or low gain setting on the receiver or camera is void as the clipping is already in the pipe line. Rode said they'll pass the feed back on however I wouldn't hold my breath as to whether they'll impliment gain control at the transmitter level. The only way around this it to use a Pad attenuator between the mic and transmitter to pull back the gain. This is a shame as this issue alone completely ruins a great product. Who wants to risk clipping audio.
@DandyDoesIt2 жыл бұрын
@@taghappytv Thank you for digging into this. I have recently added the rode go lav mic with excellent results and exporting in 32 bit float instead of mp3 has appeared to have cleared up the issue. But I have only done one project since making these changes. It may simply be the 32 bit float export solving the issue but the lav mic sounds so good I'm hesitant to bother doing anything else. I'm not seeing any reason to record to the camera at all these days unless shooting from a great distance which I never do

A few questions: 1. How do I export all the audio at once? 2. How do I export the Timecode metadata to text file? 3. how do you autoname the files by date time and seconds created? If you can't do it these features would be useful to have in the rode central software.

Great questions Clarke, future updates may give the option to select individual files or multiple files for deleting and exporting. At this stage it is not available. There is no usable sync timecode with the file apart from the time the file started to be recorded. No way to export this time with file. There is no option yet to adjust file naming method. The wireless go II is known for low sensitivity. Even so the recording is almost without any background noise so you can lift the gain in editing with confidence that it will be a clear recording.

The safety channel doesn't record 2 separate tracks. It sends the stereo track to the camera or recorder and one channel will be 20db lower, which then gets separated in post. As usual, Rode didn't explain this. It would have been more practical to have 2 recordings on the transmitter to choose from but they didn't think of that.

When the transmitter is switched to always on, you have to use an app to access the function switch. No physical switch will do it. The always on recording stops when the transmitter is completely switched off. There is no indication other than the screen going blank.

@johncorry13532 жыл бұрын
Hello Gary - we corresponded months ago right after my purchase of W-Go II and you and your tutorials were/are very helpful (and generous replying here on Comments all the way between Australia and Canada time zones!). Q: (on iphone 6 & 8 with analogue cord) I have my receiver Gain Mode and Gain set at Course and High, but an outdoor shoot this morning (Rode Lav Mic, very little wind) was a little at the top end close to distortion at moments. If I adjust to 'Mid' Gain will that give me less Mic input recording levels? I tend to project a little too much and have to remember I'm not teaching in a classroom (I lead seminars 4 times a yr for my RMT Peeps). Btw I'm also employing FilMic Pro by your lead! Photography hobby background is helping accelerate that learning - I botched some of this morning's focus as I should have locked it in 🙄). Appreciate your time very much - John.
@GaryDmedia2 жыл бұрын
John, so good to hear from you again. Totally understand the projection issue. It’s hard to get into your mind you don’t need to speak to the back of the class. The latest firmware update added the option to add an input gain PAD. This is the instructions from the website: “To activate the pad, simply toggle the 'Pad' button in RØDE Central. You can also activate the pad from the receiver by selecting the transmitter using the pair button (‘∞‘), followed by a long press on the ‘dB’ button. Note: a short press will activate the mute function, so take care to hold the button until the pad symbol appears on the receiver display.” I think that will help lower the sensitivity of the lav mic. Lowering the output of the receiver will not fix distortion caused by high input into the transmitter. If that isn’t enough you could fit your mic under your shirt fabric. Hope that helps.

@GaryDmedia2 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear that gos2011, it sounds to me like you may have a issue with the mic input on your camera. A way to check it is to plug your wireless mic into another recorder or camera and see if you get the same buzz. If there is no buzz then it just may be the input on your camera.
@GaryDmedia2 жыл бұрын
Gos2011, I just thought of something else. 2.4GHz wireless mics have a lot of electrical interference around them. The receiver is not only receiving signal but also communicating with the transmitter. It could be that the camera is not shielding this out. Just a thought. You can test this by bringing the receiver close to the camera and then stretching the lead out and getting it away from the camera. Hope you find a solution.

Tag Happy, in the WG2 settings be sure to adjust the TX so that it has full gain. That is, don’t switch on the PAD. Even at full input gain you would have to yell into it or sing very loudly to distort the input. Adjustment of the RX gain only adjusts the output going to the camera.

No sorry about that. The transmitters record to their internal memory. To record from the receiver it has to be connected to a recorder.

hello and thank you very much for this very well done and super detailed video. a small question?? how can we export multiple tx files? I have the impression that they should be exported 1 by 1. Thank you in advance for your answer.
@GaryDmedia3 жыл бұрын
Tristan, that feature I imagine is coming soon along with a mobile app to adjust settings. At present you can only copy files individually.

I don't get the purpose of the pad function. Is it a kind of automatic gain control, something I would not like tu use for audio? Then the pad function and the gain control (fine or coarse) work together? Usually I record to an iPhone through the audio monitor of an Zoom H5 - it is true clipping on the Rode side must be omitted by all means. It is easy to control clipping on the Zoom H5 but I am not sure what is best practice on the Rode setup. You taught me how to use the Zoom H5.

Garry can you have one receiver in one position eg one side of a worship church and the another taking audio from the mixer using cables like in your videos

Gary, there is a way to read again the audio files inside the Rode App one time you delate it?, for example save the original file in the compute and then bring again inside of devoice ?

I will check it out Tommaso. I’m not too familiar with the new Rode companion app yet. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks Gary for a very informative video! Just wanted to ask if I can delete the audio files that are already stored in each transmitter, as I couldn't do so in Rode Central application?
@GaryDmedia3 жыл бұрын
Fadi, at this stage you can only use the Rode Central app to globally delete all files. I imagine future updates may give us more control.

Hi! I need your expert advice. For a voice off video which gain (on dB) would you recommend? There's a wide range and I'm new at this. Need some help. Thanks and greetings from Mexico!

Alan I would select the highest setting for standard voice over work. Make sure the channel PAD is turned off. Hope that helps.

@@GaryDmedia I'll try that. Thank you so much, Gary.

Hi. Very informative video. Can you possibly explain after I've exported an audio file and cleaned it up in post production, how do I integrate it back into my video so it replaces the old audio file?

Hi, question: What is the function of PAD in the microphone?
@GaryDmedia2 жыл бұрын
The PAD Jorge is to reduce the sensitivity of the mic input. Mainly for people who have very loud voices. It does nit reduce it enough to make it a line input.

How do you record with both mics on 1 iPhone
@GaryDmedia2 жыл бұрын
You have a couple of options Allen, use the digital cable to the lightning port or use the iPhone headset adapter with the 3.5mm lead that comes with the WG2.

Hi! I have a problem. I connect to my iPhone but I can’t hear the microphone sound from my video. Do you know what this could be? Thank you!

Hey Gary. Great video. I bought the Rode Wireless Go II and the iphone cable hack based on your suggestion. When I was recording using my iphone, I noticed that the gain is high and create some noises. I read that actually the gain setting does not work if you connect via a USB cable, which is what I'm using. I noticed that you are using an iphone in this video. How do you get around that problem? Thank you in advance!
@GaryDmedia2 жыл бұрын
I haven’t had a problem with overdriving. The transmitters have a function now that you can reduce the input gain on the microphone where needed. You just need to make sure you have the latest firmware installed for Rode Central. Then select the pad for microphone sensitivity. Hope that helps. Love your channels, congrats on the silver play buttons. 2, amazing.

@@GaryDmedia Hi Gary! Thank you so much for getting back to me. I do see that function. However, based on the Rode's website, it seems like the gain setting does not work if you use the USB C to connect. Also, i noticed that there's a slight difference in the audio quality of the one recorded in the iPhone vs on the Rode TX, which is very odd. The iPhone track has some artifacts. I currently set the gain as -15. Anyway, thank you. You have a great channel and I'm looking forward to seeing you reaching that milestone! Feel free to reach out if you need any help.

I will have another look at those references you mentioned to try and understand it a bit more. The recording on the TX will be a bit better cause it have to be fed through so much processing including Mr iPhone. Thanks for your kind offer of assistance, very kind. Stay safe.

Good video. Rode Central needs a method to batch export all of the audio files rather than exporting each one at a time. Its very tedious.
