I have loved this song and the entire album, from the moment I brought it home from the store and put the needle down on it.

Back in 1981 when I was a 7th grader in junior high school. This song was about my mama and I thought about this song. I was 14 in that year.

Daryl Coley has always stunned me with his 3 octave vocal capability and what makes it better he has jazz pianist Rodney Franklin in attendance and this cut delivers the right flavor for all the MO MS out there.

Thanks Angel for posting the credits.a little trivia: Rodney, Fred and I toured with the high school Choir to New Orleans in '76. We called him "88 fingers" because he played every note on the piano keyboard. Fantastic arpeggios! Fred Washington is the bassist who played "Forget Me Nots" with Patrice Rushen. Daryl Coley also is the vocalist doing the ad lib. If you listened to gospel in the mid 80's you heard Darryl. He was guest soloist on most albums in that era.

THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS...A THOUSAND TIMES THANK YOU!!!!!!!! I dedicated this to my mom when I was an intern at WHUR in the early 80s. She is no longer with me. I never forgot how her eyes teared up. When I came home from school the next time...she had bought the album.

Thank you so much for sharing the beautiful story of your mother! Very tender! Belated condolences to you and yours. This wonderful song can't help but touch our heart's deepest core! Blessings to you and to the memory of your beloved mother! Special thanks to Rodney Franklin for writing such an anthemic tune for our mothers! It doesn't get any better. Grace and peace to you!

Always brings tears to my eyes. Especially now since this is the first Mothers Day without my Mom. I listened to WHUR and WEAA in Baltimore regularly during the 80’s

The title just popped into my mind... along with Rodney Franklin's name... didn't remember the tune at all, but that there were short vocals at end - has been 20 years since I heard this (have it on vinyl in one of the boxes that needs sorting). Think I heard it on the radio in San Jose in mid-80s - can't remember call letters of that station, but it was great. Beautiful - THANKS FOR POSTING THIS... good days to all.

THANK YOU ANGEL FOR UPLOADING THIS! I POSTED THE FOLLOWING COMMENT ON MY FB PAGE: One of the MOST beautiful compositions EVER that I had dedicated to my Mom. Written by Rodney Franklin for his mother...Aretha. Back in the day, I interned with Melvin Lindsay at HU when WHUR was a single trailer, adjunct to the School of Communications before "Quiet Storm" Fame. Years later when I was home performing at Ford's Theatre, I asked him to dedicate this to my mom...which he did. My mom, rarely--if ever cried...but I got her that day!!!! "Cancion Para Mi Mama!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" [PLEASE LISTEN...YOU'LL THANK ME...ESPECIALLY COME MOTHER'S DAY! BUT DON'T WAIT, IF YOU'RE FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO STILL HAVE YOUR MOM...SEND IT TODAY. SHE'LL LOVE YOU EVEN MORE]
