Rodrigo's Concierto Andaluz was commissioned by Celedonio Romero for himself and his three sons and first played in San Antonio, Texas, USA on 18 November 1967, and, of course, they did a superb LP recording on the Philips label which I have listened to many times. However, I think this live performance is also superb! The sound quality is truly magnificent and the four guitarists, conductor Heinzel, and Philharmonie Merck are to be congratulated!

Beautiful concert. As you must know, this concert was written by Joaquin Rodrigo for Los Romero: Celedonio, the father, and his sons, Pepe, Angel and Celin Romero, and was played for the first time in San Antonio, Texas, in 1968. I heard a big part of this concert for the first time in a radio station in Santiago de Chile the year 1974, and for some time I didn't know the name of the concert until I was living in Caracas, Venezuela. Thanks a lot for this wonderful music

I see such an overflow of glowing appreciation in earlier comments! There are so many that express my own joy in listening to this performance in far better words than I can offer. And I must say that my great pleasure in listening is much enhanced by watching the guitarists and their pleasure as they play. The camera operators deserve much credit for giving us such good views of the guitarists. Thank you so VERY much to everyone who had any part in bringing this WONDERFUL performance to us. All the accolades in these comments are richly deserved. I fully intend to return again and again to watch and to listen. If only I could have been at the front of the audience to add my applause to theirs!

Listening to the 2nd movement reminded me of the 9th century Andalusian love story between a poet from Cordoba, "Abdullah Ibn Zaidun", and an Umaweed princess "Walladah". Of how they fell in love, how he was arrested by the governor of Cordoba, how he sought to Seville, to live the rest of his life remembering her saying: He bid farewell to patience, the one who bid farewell to you.. With the only known of his secret, is what is known to you... Oh the kin of the moon, in bright and majesty... God bless the time when you appeared... If my nights become longer after you... Oh, how I complained the shortness of my nights with you.
