Rodrigues reopened! Flying to the second-biggest island of Mauritius

It took a long time, but Rodrigues finally opened up for both domestic tourism as well as international tourism. It's an autonomous island, so they got to decide for themselves whether to go along with the Mauritian immigration policy. The island has been pretty much closed off from the world from March 2020 till March 2022 with few repatriation flights in between.
Going to this smaller island was kind of a prerequisite for the trip to Mauritius. I'm very happy they opened up so we can stay a few months on this island of roughly 40.000 inhabitants. It's a tiny pearl in the Indian Ocean far away from everything.

I have always been very curious about this country. Not sure I will ever visit there but it sounds very interesting.

In normal times there were direct flights to Mauritius from Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, so if you're back in Thailand it's one extra stop. I hope these flights will restart soon because at the end of my visa I'd like to restart the discontinued Asia trip! Happy to see some places reopening over there ☀️

@@IrisVeldwijk There is talk of ending the Thailand Pass about June 1st. My question is if the government will finally stop the worthless Covid insurance. I can not leave the country until then. There is even talk that we might be forced to wear a mask OUTSIDE for a long time. Covid here was mishandled badly since the start and just seems more focused of $$$ and control.

It's a domestic flight, but Rodrigues is an autonomous region. So they can dictate their own policy on being open/closed to tourists. For example, right now you can enter Mauritius 🦤 without a COVID test or a vaccine, but for Rodrigues you need to be vaccinated
