My mom used to work nights when I was a kid and this song would come on the radio as I sat by the window waiting for her to come home at 10. One of the loneliest times of my life but this song certainly was there to keep me company. Thank you, Sir Rod!

I’m 22 y/o from Mexico and I really thank my parents for showing me Rod’s music since I was 7 y/o. My parents were always worried about showing my siblings and I what the good music really feels like and how it fills the soul. My mom particularly is a huge Rod Stewart and Phil Collins fan. She had a stroke 3 years ago and fortunately she is still alive and having her best life. Life truly gave her a second chance. Now that I’m a grown man, learned 4 different languages, still studying b.s Accounting & finance and working full time for one of the most prestigious companies in Washington DC, what I’ll do with my first paycheck and bonus will be taking my parents to Las Vegas to see Sir Rod Stewart perform on live stage and thank them and life for everything they’ve done for me. If not for my parents I wouldn’t a) discover Rod Stewart’s great music and b) have the chance to attend to the best schools, get a good education and have a job that allows me to take my parents to watch Sir Rod the day of my birthday with me!! Life’s a gift, live it intensely until the last day, just like this 77yo rockstar :)

Wonderful masterpiece from late 1989. My grandmother was a big fan of Rod Stewart since the 1960s, and she used to blast this song in her 1992 Buick station wagon taking the kids to family reunions. I'm a person up in age in a profession that every day I never know if that day I'll not not go home . I heard this Song with Mr Rod Stewart. It so reminds me of my younger years and makes my heart get full of beautiful memories of people who I grown to love and miss so very much . Love Them All .

Best thing Rod Steward ever did, IMHO. Tom Waites being from Pamona California amazes me and how he really captured what every north east guy experienced when they first entered the workforce. That devastating woman he saw every day and fell in love with on the downtown train to work.

I thank Rod's best music came in the late eighties, it's timeless. Sounds just as good now as it did then, never gets old.

I'm not a big Rod Stewart fan, but I agree that his late '80s and early-'90s songs were exceptional. I appreciate his phrasing especially, particularly on this tune and "Rhythm of My Heart."

I fully agree with your comment.. I personally hated the "sandpaper noise" of Maggie May in 1972 and would turn the sound off my radio for 5 minutes whenever it came on . I can't get enough of this one .. His mid-to-late 80's music is beautiful and timeless.. more and better instrumentation helped grow him as an artist and convey the inner emotion of his singing... ..a high school classmate was at a concert in Texas last year and was posting video clips of it on his Facebook page...he was in the upper right seating area..

And just like ALWAYS…EVERY single song by Rod is amazing. I’ve been a fan since the early 70’s. He’s one of a kind. The voice, the hair, the clothes ❤

IT was a wonderful time, a wonderful decade, the first half of the nineties as well, really. Wonderful people, wonderful living, the expansiveness of all of us traveling and finding soulmates around the world, the hope, the music, good food, it was the best time. Now we have spun off into a vacant galaxy of nothing. But thank Creator for internet, for cds, casettes, memories. I bought Rod's auto biography for my birthday, so that I would always be able to "hear his voice" no mater what happens in the world. * in those days you COULD take a downtown train. I took downtown trains in Montreal in the late 90s at night, thoughtnothing of it, pretty darn safe, and wonderful .

This jewel of a record is simply the best ‘cover’ of any song from that entire era. The haunting lyrical genius of Tom Waits’ song, but completely reimagined by a certified legend, 18 years after Sir Rod’s iconic record ’Maggie May’. That is a career that just never seemed to end, & Rod has sounded technically excellent throughout his long career when other stars faltered. He practices & studies voice, he has always been a student of his art. Every second of this performance is charged with nearly unheard of power & romance. One of my top 40 records of all time. Gahhh!🫠

When Bob Seger lived in LA, he became friends with Rod and he shared with him that he was going to publish this song but then Rod decided to publish it.
