I have a question be honest here i have the asus rog z1 extreme is keep hearing good things for the ally x so I'm thinking of refunding my asus rog z1 extreme twards the ally x way better then the z1 extreme or no. I'm looking for a powerful handheld for games like fortnite call of duty and cyberpunk is it worth getting the ally x

Stupid question but do you find it simple to use? I have a steam deck and want to get an Ally but worried about simplicity. Do you have to map the key bindings for every game or does it automatically configure?

@@owenwelch9877 No you dont have to map key bindings unless you do emulation which you might. It is simple to use but use one knowing that it's a Windows machine and not your regular gaming console.

@@roninreef90 I don't miss it because I'm sensitive to PWM and OLED screens hurt my vision especially the Switch OLED. LCD is fine as long as its good quality like the Ally's

I didn’t use a heat sink on the OG Ally when I swapped out the drive. Just had to get a small thin strip of thermal pad. Heat sink would’ve been too thick to get the Ally to shut close and assuming it’s gonna be the same for Ally X.

Thinking of buying either the Steam Deck OLED (AUD$1000) or the ROG Ally X (AUD$1600), I have a pretty big catalogue of games expanding over multiple PC launchers, not just steam. I play mostly single player stuff, with the occasional multiplayer game here and there - cba with the grind in most multiplayers anymore, I've got hundred of hours in Destiny 2 so would like to continue but not a deal-breaker. With the recent upgrade of the Ally, which one should I buy for my use case? Been researching this stuff for weeks and still stumped. Great video man! Keep it up :)

I think it’s worth getting the Ally X. It’s unlike the OG Ally and the upgrades really are worth it. Also since you have games outside of Steam. It would make more sense to go with the Ally X. You can also upgrade the SSD in the future too which is cool. Thanks so much for watching the video!

Does the extra vent on top for the display help alleviate the screen from getting too warm?

I think it does help out. I haven’t noticed the device get warm at all. I was playing for 2.5 hours straight last night and was fine with the temps.

For me I'm going to wait until next gen maybe the one after. I personally don't play it alot outside if the house or away from a plug. I also own the 3080 xg mobile too and wow it's a beast when plugged in. Also upgraded it to 2TB. I do feel if I had not got the og ally I would get the x especially as I hate the white. That said I would recommend any of then to anyone looking for a pc handheld or as an alternative to getting a console.

Notice a few rough edges on the exterior be a bit more polished off (no rough edges anymore on retail units), some buttons or triggers were tighten up a bit more with less rattle, and the software is an updated software/firmware to run the latest Armoury Crate with new TDP settings.

​@radger6392 obviously this Is reply is sadly even far more late lol.... but seeing that you went with none, I'll give you my own experience and what I did. When these handheld first came out a bit ago (the original Ally, and the Lenovo legion go) I bought both of them, but went with refurbished ones from BestBuy. My thought was to return which ever one I wasn't enjoying as much. I soon realized that my gaming habits cam be kinda odd and not consistent. I like more of the idea of handhelds then actually doing it. I couldn't justify spending close to $600 and over for something I wasn't going get ton out of due to my use cases and how often. What I did was instead, which I super super recommend is checking out the logitech g cloud handheld. It's about the size of the Ally, much thinner and lighter, and the battery life is kick ass with over 10+ hours of actively using it. It's focus is cloud and remote streaming and you can basically use any and all of those apps and services like xbox and gamepass remote and cloud streaming, playstation remote play, steam remote play, Nvidia GeForce streaming. It also runs Android so you can use it as a tablet essentially as well, speakers are pretty solid, and it feels really really good to hold and use, and as long as you have decent internet and you know your wifi can do stream gaming fine, this is such a good device. You can probably pick it up refurbished or used for less than $200.

My brothers PC had its power supply fail and he wanted to play Fortnite with him so I connected my rog ally z1 extreme to his pc monitor along with his Xbox controller and it was actually quite playable. He has 1920x1080 144 hz monitor. Of course I had to put the settings on low but in desperate measures it was great. I wouldn’t have built my PC if I knew that all I needed was a professional rog ally dock and an external GPU. How cool would it be to have a 2TB Upgraded SSD along with an external GPU so when you can have your gaming pc on the go and be able to pick up where you left off by docking your ally when you get home. This thing works as a full fledged PC so in docked mode you could even do all of your work on it.

@@AlloyShortStory its not a few, its every but within all the issues people received alot of the ally were recalled mine did not at all had this issue tho i bought my z1e from my friend but i modded backplate with 2280 adapter and all tht it was a good run but i went with the X cause of the battery life and the 40gbps type c port i still own the white ally im just trying to find a buyer for it here
