I was just tonight, while doing a walk around my neighborhood and listing on headphones, noticing how good Kenny Jones' drumming was on Face Dances. Really beautiful and elegant fills during songs such as, "Daily Records," and, "Another Tricky Day." I think it was hard for fans to immediately embrace him just because of how much they loved Keith Moon. But Kenny Jones really was a stellar musician. Tomorrow night as I walk, I'll listen to his work on, "It's Hard."

It's insane that Roger was talking about how old the footage of the early Who was then, when it was only about 12, 13, 14 years earlier back then. Now this is 35 years ago !!. It's mad how time flies. I remember 1979 as if it were just yesterday, as I was 16 years old, and then, 10 years or so earlier seemed as long ago then as it does now, compared to what 1979 seems now.

Mmmm Roger is so gorgeous- down to earth and sweet. I would die on the spot if he called me 'love'! I have met him though, and had a hug... I wish he hadn't cut his hair - although I love his McVicar hair too... And the film is great! Kenney seems like a sweetie- I wonder what happened between him and Roger. It wasn't easy having to replace Moonie.

Listen to the drumming on Face Dances and It's Hard. Kenny was just not up to the task. Roger mentions it directly in his autobiography. The music was crying for something more, and Kenny just wasn't playing in a style that could deliver the punch that Pete had intended. I remember feeling really confused and deflated when those albums came out because the drumming was so 'session' sounding.

Entwistle and Townshend loved playing with Jones. He did an admirable job on both albums, got rave reviews at the time and was sensational live. Daltrey's issue with Jones may have been personal.

Kenny Jones glorious substitute of Keith Moon not was easy but he was the great drummer of SMALL FACES/FACES.present in the last Who albums 81/82 and the last fantastic tours before Pete decided stop the band creations.But The Who returned fantastic tours in the XXI century from 99 to 2015.with zak Starkey on drums.Majestic Good bye

Roger liked Kenney as a person but never thought Kenney was the right drummer for The Who. However, I think by the "farewell tour" in 1982 Roger realized what an amazing talent Kenney was...and so did the fans. We loved Keith but Kenney was so much more a true "musician"..not to mention he was athletic & good looking, could handle the press, didn't do drugs, was reliable, etc. I think Simon Phillips is an amazing drummer but for The Who he was too "technical" and we missed Kenney. I saw the Who in 1989 and loved it but in many ways it was generic compared to the great shows of 1982....and Kenney was missed. These days, its hard to argue that Zak Starkey is a perfect fit but Kenney Jones will always be my favorite... Keith Moon not withstanding!
@ltyr20026 жыл бұрын
Sorry Paul, I respectfully disagree. I was surprised at the pedestrian drumming approach Kenny took to the stuff Pete was writing in the early '80s. It never sparkled.
@timothycollins19682 жыл бұрын
P-BIZ……great shows from 1982? I saw many of the shows from that tour. Pete looked so uninterested. I think he was happy it was over. He was exhausted from touring. Just wanted the tour to end and call it a career. And Roger’s voice was not good either. He sang like he had a cold at every show.
@timothycollins19682 жыл бұрын
P-BIZ……but the comeback tour in 1989 was much different. Pete was excited to do the Tommy anniversary tour. The shows were good and very entertaining. You could tell The Who were happy to be back on tour.

This had to be a little icy. Pete demanded Kenney be admitted as a full quarter ownership in the band. Roger fought it but what could he do?
@jackierobinson57667 жыл бұрын
LeftMeNot Why tho? And how come Zak starkey is not included as a full member of the who? He's been playing drums for the Who for 21 years! Longer than Keith was, I'm not saying he's better than Keith Because he ain't! and the legendary Keith moon could never be replaced! But Zak is still a great drummer and played On endless wire, So Zak should definitely be included as a full member of the who, And how come roger did not Want kenney to be a full member? And how come Pete did? It seems a bit strange to me.
