@@dzonibravo7867 He contracted mono virus in 2008 and show signs of decline in physical abilities. And since then, courts became slower and bouncier to promote long rallies. That's when Nadal become stronger on hardcourts to take games and slams from Federer. Its also when Djokovic slowly becomes dominant on hardcourts.

Out of prime Fed schooled prime Djokovic always on fast courts and if be did not mentally choke he could have beaten Djokovic on the slower surfaces too. There is no other player that is comparable in talent.

Now at days tennis changed a lot now is more agresive and fast , young’s players can’t play like Roger because every point is longer more than 5 hits each player , old school tenis was only agresive no one can run like alcaraz sinner medeved, next gen defensive tennis is harder needs more strategy for win a point

@@Shiljamannn Wimbledon is basically a slow court post 2010, and it was slowing down each year before. There are hard courts on tour that are much faster like Dubai and Cincinatti, which prime Djokovic was routinely losing to old federer in.

He said later that during that whole year he was suffering from pain in the arm. Which is the result of his change of racquets. That's why the results were disappointing that year.

@@feo2229 As Federer's serve was one of his biggest weapons that may explain why he didn't do so well after that. I must admit that I like watching aces by a clever and skillful player, it's when you get 7 foot tall guys producing huge serves just by virtue of their height that it gets boring.

Just to know 2008 and 2009 Murray and Djokovic was 21 years old. Murray Federer h2h 5:4 for Murray. With Djokovic 4:4 period of 2008-2009. Nadal was even from 2004 beating Federer even on hard surface and funny 2017 that is only year when Federer was dominating Nadal. And if you want to speak about changes, tennis changed all around(especially rackets) in last 30 years so stop with that excuse.

It's true that the slowing down of Tennis with slower courts, heavier, more bouncy balls negatively impacted Federer's game a lot but even then his game was good enough to win a lot more slams than he did from 2011-2016. He mainly lost because he lost confidence and mental weakness against Nadal and Djokovic. He choked on many important points otherwise he could've won more slams despite the slower courts.

You forgot to add that both his great rivals are 5/6 years younger than him and which is huge in any sports particularly in Tennis. Hard courts and grass courts slowing down considerably is what helping grinders and hampering attacking players like Roger. But still, with all these handicaps, Nadal, his prime rival, can't beat him in the last few years.

@@ankbas4718 I know but even with all this Federer was still good enough to win 2008 Wimbledon, 2009 AO, 2009 USO, 2014 Wimbledon, 2015 USO, 2019 Wimbledon. He lost because he couldn't keep it together in pressure situations. His physical game was good enough to win these Slams, his mentality was the weakness.

@@apathak34I don't think his mentality is weak. While going to 40-15 (Wimbledon 2019) he produced back to back aces which was not possible if you are too tight. It is just that he could not win. Also I am not talking about the past matches. Right now he figured out how to beat both Nadal and Djokovic. He showed that at Wim 2019 and ATP Nitto finals RR match. At the AO 2020 he was badly injured and after that more injuries.

@@ankbas4718 Federer figured out Nadal and he has dominated Nadal outside of clay for the last several years. In case of Djokovic, Federer has always been competitive against him in best of 3. In Grand Slams he has not beaten Djokovic since 2012. There have been many instances of Federer having match points and still losing. His mentality is just not as strong as Djokovic.

@@apathak34 I am not talking about 2012 not even 2015. Federer figured out how to beat Nadal (his worst rival) 2017 onward. And he has done the same for Djokovic 2019 onward. Its unfortunate that due to Federer's injury they have not met more than thrice in that period. Also these sayings like "Federer is weak mentally" , "Djokovic is a mental giant" are all myths and will be busted in due time. If Federer had served just one more ace that Wimbedon 2019 final day no one could have started saying such things.

They did not slow down all the courts, maybe some, but not all. In fact, AO actually got faster when it turned blue since that surface was rated “medium-fast” compared to the green rebound ace which was rated “medium” in ITF. I know plenty of Federer fans like to believe that he was invincible on fast courts but the truth is, the competition just got better.

One factor that I like, is that both, novak and Rafa, had the most matches gone to a 5 setter against Roger, show you how difficult to beat he is! Rafa 7 matches agains him and novak 4, no even the Rafa novak rivalry had that many 5 setters, only 3 between them..

Great video! If you just judge Federer on slams, then 2010- 2017 would be a failure compared to 2003-2009. However, he did win a total of 31 other tournaments from 2010 - 2017, so it was still a successful period for Roger, just not as dominant as before as Rafa and Novak were in their primes.

About Nadal I will say one thing, is that he had declined massively in terms of movement and defence on hard courts. This coupled with Federer's new backhand were a formula for defeat.

Yes, and if they had never slowed down the surfaces, Federer would have won many more slam titles...against Nadal and Djokovic. Slower courts reward a human wall like Djokovic. Faster courts, a shot making genius like Federer, a magic that he has far more of than Djokovic or Nadal. The tennis powers that be leveled the playing field, even if inadvertently, for players like them and against Federer. IOW, matters like injuries, surface speeds, etc., are all hypotheticals. The fact is the surfaces were slowed considerably, and Djokovic was injured in 2017. It is what it is.

In 2014 and 2015 Wimbledon Federer was playing at an high level and he was 33-34. He was playing his most beautiful tennis, attacking from everywhere and often going to the net. Federer last time finish year as #1 at age 29, after turn 30 years he never again finish year as number one. Novak manage after turn 30 finish as number 1, twice , at age 32 and last year at 34. He was a target for both Nadal and Djokovic and they happened to be strong enough unlike younger gen to Djokovic's era. Also the close matches he lost were very painful and it gave both his rivals motivation to beat him because he was considered potential GOAT and eventually GOAT at the time.

Fed had to fend off young players of the caliber of Nadal, Djokovic, Murray, Del po, Stan etc. Compare to that the list of young players that Nadal and Djokovic had to deal with. Once Fed is past his peak and once the courts are made slow it became difficult for him. But that's not an excuse I would like to give because he is Federer he can do anything.

many federer fans says, that the nextgen are weak...but if you compare the nextgen since 2018 with hewitt,safin and roddick from 2004-2007....then you can see that the 3 years from the nextgen from 2018-2021 is stronger then the 4 years from hewitt/Safin/roddick from 2004-2007, Federer main opponents Roddick/hewitt/Safin .only their success from 2004-2007 in 4 season to compare, with djokovic main opponents Thiem/medvedev/zverev from 2018-2021 in the last 3 season. Roddick/hewitt/Safin vs Thiem/zverev/medvedev Grandslam titles= 1/1 Grandslam final= 7/7 ATP Final titles = 0 /2 ATP Final finals= 1 /4 Masters 1000 title= 4 /7 Masters 1000 finals= 8 /14 Titles = 23 /25 FINALS = 43 /43 and dont forget the six months corona break otherwise thiem,zverev, medvedev would reached more... this is a 4 years compare to 2 and half years

Great analysis.But the difference is that fed was way better in 2004-07 than djokovic is right now.Djokovic still manages to beat those players in slams even though he is not at his best,don;t forget that most of fed era players reached world no.1 very young.At the moment the next gen is weaker than federer era,and they will be unless they break djokovic or nadal in rankings,or beat them in a slam final.Djokovic does right now,what federer used to do,he is on another level from all of those players.
