This is fabulous. it is so great to watch Federer starting out his session with slow (for them), easy (for them) balls to warm up his core movement and get his timing centered, and several minutes later start driving them. But even then playing mostly rally balls and picking his shot on the ones he drove.

i think Federer's hitting partner did a good job. he was consistent, even on some pretty hard shots from Federer. that's all you can really ask and i'm sure Roger was happy with that. he has suffered, in a good spirits, much worse!

Why is it so entertaining to see Roger play at 10%?

Cause you realise if you have the game of your life andplay at 110 % he can still drop a 6-0 6-1 on you

@@federerfan3 6-0 6-0. I used to play competitive and I still think if he went at like 20% I would get double bagelled

When Roger was born, he was a baby like everyone else. But Roger tried harder than anyone else to become a god. The result was Roger Federer.

Roger does this all the time, practicing with juniors and college players. Cleary, the point isn't to hit against a top pro, just banging. This guy is clearly trying to just get balls back, be a ball machine. This is good. Even at my level, there's something about hitting with a lesser player who is consistent, you can reacquaint yourself with certain fundamentals of a ground stroke. Like you have extra time to work on shaping your shots. Same with MMA, going all out sparring against another top guy isn't necessarily the way to get better.

Hi how do you not end up reducing your swing speed? :) care teachie I have trouble playing with lower lvl players as in I will control every shot reducing my spin so that the other guy can take it, but I realise this will be somehow detrimental on my match play because I will be like a coach feeding easy ball with easy pace and spin after getting use to it. sad thing is I like 2 to 3 session with ppl around my level or better to fix it back and I find it hard to improve it the cycle keep continue :(
@justinkemeter
@justinkemeter 6 жыл бұрын
The point is the guy is consistently getting feds balls back. I.e. he has no problem handling the spin and pace. He just doesn’t deliver it back hard. If your partner can’t handle your pace or spin then yes it would be detrimental to your game to ”take it easy on him”

No he won't. I am not saying it is right to say horrible things about another person but to be honest any decent college player has much better groundstrokes than that guy. It could be because he was nervous hitting against federer but the level we see in the video is quite bad.

he actually played at Ohio State which is a very good college tennis program. He is a very defensive grinder who does not go for anything. He gave Roger a nice warmup without missing many balls.

In this Cincinnati tourney, they have college players, current or former to be hitters for the pros. Some of them, including Wyatt Lippert here, are currently teaching pros for the clubs around

Yeah, the other guy just needs to relax his arm at the end and let the racquet flop over like Fed does. I do this, it's not hard to learn, if anything it feels more natural.

+oopsroger You get D1 players and some former ITF guys going down there to hit with the tour players. But don't be fooled by what you see. That guy has a job, to play balls that Federer can warm up on. And this is the beginning of a hitting session, where he is/they are just warming up their timing. And those guys on the tour make hitting rockets look easy and routine.

Guaranteed any college student would feel like they are holding a racket for the first time when they are rallying with Federer. Hes a living legend, the hitting partners (unless they are on the tour) are almost always shaky. btw, Fed DOES sometimes warm up /practice with D1 college students to more or less introduce them to the pro scene
