Roger is so humble, he keeps saying “I’m a simple bass player “, but there’s NOTHING simple about any of his bass lines: they are complete masterpieces and he’s a Master Bass Player, his bass parts in any of DP songs are the most important parts and so articulate, powerful and complex! …He’s a true “architect of bass lines”, by all means! In fact, you cannot add or subtract even one single note out of his baselines, in any song: they are absolute perfection to the teeth!! And I’m saying this as bass player for over 4 decades!! Roger is an absolutely genius bassist who has influenced countless rock bassists thru generations!!!

I just LOVE this man. He is to me the epitome of what a TRUE rock or any other kind of musician should be like: talented, modest and easygoing, easy to talk to and play with and work with. Here's to you Roger, after all these years you still haven't changed! I been listening to Purple since the late 80's and I always dug Roger's sound. When we "played Purple", I always wanted to be him...and sometimes Ritchie. :)

A charming and to repeat what others have said...humble man. A vegan I hear. Anyone that could endure Blackmore in Purple then Rainbow then Purple again...and keep his sanity... Add to that I always thought that he had a great tone....either on the Rickenbacker or the Vigier...both of which have a tone AND appearance that so rock and roll...Glover and Hunt Sales turned me on to the Vigier...no studio is complete without either...

I love the jolly Roger. The coolest man in the land. I have met Roger Glover like 3 times and he was always friendly and down to earth( reminds me of an album). Once I met him after a Purple show and they talked and signed autographs and when they were done they got into a car to leave, it was Jon Lord, Ian Gillan and Ian Paice. As they were driving away, my friend who got lost and came late ran over and actually threw himself onto the hood of their moving car and they stopped and got out and met with him before getting back into their car to leave. That impressed me greatly as most bands would not have bothered to stop for a fan. Really great guys and they have always been my favorite band.

You've got to love Roger. What an icon and humble guy. I had the pleasure of meeting him and the band. As a mature bassist, I must admit it was the greatest moment for me. My mouth went dry, I was so nervous. Roger laughed. But, the advice he imparts is fantastic! Cheers to the greatest Rock Band of all time. Thank you Roger!

It was Paice that got Glover the job in Deep Purple - Lord and Blackmore had just fired Rod Evans as vocalist and invited Ian Gillian for a tryout rehearsal, but he brought his bassist along. Lord and Blackmore hadn't been planning to fire Nick Simper, but Paice liked Glover so much better the band decided to take him too. "Mark II" aka the real Deep Purple, was born.

I think he was scared to over-do it, under-do it and to come across either too humble or too big for his boots. But I liked that. Keep it simple, follow the drummer, stick with good musos, keep it real. Good advice for a lot of today's players.

It is funny when you look at some of the biggest and most highly regarded bands that the bass players are often simple and not at all flashy players. The Rolling Stones, The Band, The Beatles, Deep Purple, The Clash, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, etc. All bass players keeping good time looking for the right pocket and feel.

Greta video. As an ex bass player I agree with him wholeheartedly. being able to play slap or fast riffs and semi solos on the bass, does not make you a good player. Bass is what people dance to, and as Roger says, it holds the band together, so the virtuosos can play.
