Ritchie B is a definite genius!!!!!! Purple is also the most underrated band of ALL TIME, yea, even perhaps the G.O.A.T! Their catalog covers almost all modern forms of Rock & Roll, and most bands after their time cite DP as a formative influence. I was watching some very old (Made in Japan) R.B. Solos, and he was a forerunner of the awesome Eddie VanHalen, he was doing stuff that Eddie mimicked years later!! PURE GENIUS. But he'd never admit he was. I also appreciate how Morse does not try to imitate, but "interpret" Ritchie. It's always a respectful Performance of the classic Purple! This band will still be together at 100 years old for some of the MkII gang 😂😂

I just saw an interview with David Coverdale in which he said he has no use for any of the guys in Purple except Glenn Hughes. He doesn't talk to any of them and has no plans to. What can I say about Roger Glover- awesome bass player in one of THEE best rock bands of all time- Deep Purple. Saw him perform with Rainbow in '79 on Down to Earth tour and then in '85 on the Perfect Strangers tour. He produced Priest's "Sin After Sin" record! Very modest and cool dude. He's an ICON!

Bands like Led Zeppelin, Thin Lizzy and AC/DC were rock n roll on steroids, but not bands like Metallica and Iron Maiden who are considered metal.

Rock n roll (Chuck Berry/Little Richard) was groove based with clean guitars and you can dance to it, same with disco. You can’t dance to metal. It’s dominated by distorted guitars and often times soulless vocals that sound like the Cookie Monster. Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye weren’t rock n roll but they sound more like it than Metallica. It’s just because hard rock/metal fans think they own the term. As far as pop, the Beatles were the biggest pop band of all time and came straight out of rock n roll.

I met Roger Glover in a small bar in Vermont where they were playing. Blackmore, Glover, pace and Turner. they were taking some time off from recording an album at a local golf club house that they rented for winter. They were all very nice awesome people and I will never forget it.

was a wrong move replacing him with tommy bolin... i love him on purple but he did what he could, ritchies departure was fresh back then, so no matter what tommy could ve done, ritchie was massively missed. but if deep purple never had ritchie and had bolin instead, its fair to assume no one, even ritchie could ve replaced bolin, tommy was that phenomenon on his own. tommy and steve happen to have the toughest work with ritchies shadow, but that ghost was mannageable when gillan took over dp so morse didnt have to deal with what tommy went through. and yes, obviously ritchies in the top undisputedly for dp for me. and indeed irreplaceable.

Wonderful to see Roger Glover stand up for Nick Simper. While I, like many, hold Mark II the highest I do like all of Deep Purple. Those three Mark I albums all have strong moments on them and after getting left behind Nick Simper fastly created the band Warhorse which is a band surely worth a listen if you haven't already. Though I'd say Nick Simper is the least famous member of any line-up so he would probably enjoy the evening at the Hall of Fame most of all. Not the end of the world offcurse but Nick Simper and Rod Evans deserve more recognition for their work in the band overall.

I saw Purple at the Chicago HOB and Roger hung out and talked to me for about forty minutes A hot brunette came up and gave Roger her hotel room key and Roger handed them back to her and said I'm married.Roger asked her if she liked bass players and she said she loved them.Roger told her my friend Wayne is a bass player. She looked me up and down and said no thank you.I was in great shape and had long hair back then.Roger than said "I tried to help out my fellow bass player"

I met Ritchie and some of the other guys in Rainbow when they were having a break on the Gold Coast during their Australian tour, way back when. I think what Roger says is true. Ritchie is a mercurial guy, and has his own particular way of working. Some people, like Cozy Powell, could get around his eccentricities without too much trouble, but they were the exception I think. However, Ritchie came across to my mind as being a little bit insecure in some ways, which is the antithesis of his reputation as a ego-maniac and enfant terrible. He is a complicated personality for sure. But on a personal basis, he's a hell of a nice guy.

He's always said kind things about him even though they were of different eras of the band, and he likes him as a guitarist. When I was 15, I wrote (through the fan club) to Roger with a question aaking would his butterfly ball album/project be going ahead. The club office was in the Purple records building. I got a letter back from the club (Simon) with a signed piece of paper from Roger enclosed. He thanked me for asking and said he was about to go into the studio to start recording. He didn’t have to do that and of course I was over the moon. Purple are such a great band.

Blackmore is always a source of comments, not everyone being sincere and honest like Glover is. in this interview he said Ritchie is more confident as an artist than as a celebrity and I believe this is reality as a whole. Hendrix was said to be furious about fans and managers demanding him to destroy guitars in each show bacause he did it once

Honestamente nunca pude entender del todo a Ritchie Blackmore, estoy de acuerdo con él en el sentido de que una vez que has hecho toda la música que querías hacer no queda nada más que repetirse y él no quería repetirse (muchas grandes bandas se han acabado por ese mismo motivo: Los Beatles, Supertramp, Led Zeppelin, que no hicieron nuevas canciones por ese motivo). Otros como Yes entraron en la música comercial en busca de no repetirse. Sin embargo su alta odiosidad, no solamente hacía la gente que le ha acompañado en sus bandas hasta el día de hoy, si no también con el público que acudía masivamente a verlos, le valió finalmente SER ECHADO DE DEEP PURPLE y cuando Ritchie insinuó que le gustaría hacer un recital con la banda Ian Paice (el Purple callado) habló y explicó que ellos no quieren trabajar más con él por todos los motivos ya expresados: Odioso sin causa, siempre enojado hasta con el público, ect, ect. Ronnie James Dio dijo que él aprendió de Blackmore más que de ningún otro, no solamente todo lo que hay que hacer... Si no también LO QUE UN MÚSICO JAMÁS EN LA VIDA DEBE HACER si quiere seguir siendo querido y vigente. Su enorme e indiscutible talento le salvó de terminar en el completo olvido. Quiero finalizar diciendo que durante una de sus giras los Deep Purple en Inglaterra salieron a celebrar a un Bar y... Allí (por esas casualidades de la vida) se encontraron con Ritchie Blackmore, se reunieron, celebraron, bebieron y compartieron juntos toda la noche igual que en los viejos buenos tiempos. Después de eso Ritchie se despidió y se fue solo. Ritchie Rocks!

Been saying it for years. As a Torontonian, I went there (5 hour drive) 8 years ago. So overrated. Spent more time at Dicks sports than at R&R H.O.F. ...Befor Rush, Kiss, Heart were inducted, acts like Madonna, The Pretenders and Blondie were inducted years befor?????? W.T.F.??????? I have often wondered is it more for the band or for the fans????

Great interview with Roger. As a general observation; without naming names, the more personally likeable, agreeable and consistently logical in behaviour an artist appears to be, the less I like their work. The opposite unfortunately also seems to apply. As I will probably never meet any of the people whom I admire as artists, or as people, I don’t worry about it too much, but the theory seems to be confirmed more often than not. If I had to work with them, it would probably be a different story.

I love where Roger talks about Morse joining and how they were back to sharing writing credits and it's so true with DP and many bands, when your forming a song the one may have part of a song and the drummer adds keyboard player adds, etc and all improvisation and is worthy of credit and royalties, The Band was like that but Robbie Robertson took all the credits and royalties, not cool. If you have an acoustic guitar and write a song and you just have that and the words that's all you have, whatever else is created down the road should be given credit.

@green fox they bother because they are having fun, this band is a really happy one, they all play with smiles on their faces, they're making great music, Whoosh is such an interesting album, lots of original material for fans to sink their teeth into. I really like Power Of The Moon, The Long Way Around, Nothing At All and Man Alive. Throw My Bones is a cool single too. Number 1 best selling album in many countries around the world, there's alot of life left in these old dogs, haha, take a leap of faith green fox, I know you miss Jon & Ritchie, I do too, but you know what ? the Steve Morse era stuff holds up really well. 🙂

Steve Morse is in the top 5 best guitarists of all time. Sadly, mostly unknown guy from Florida who went to college with Rod Morgenstein who formed The Dixie Dregs. Morse can/could play Black ore under the table any day, any time. I had the great pleasure meeting Steve near his home. He came out to support a top motorcycle company the band I was in were hired to perform at. Talk about being nerve racking?? Try playing in front of someone you idolize and could never play at that level? He was gracious, and kindly gave me an autograph and shook my hand. This was back in 2011 to give perspective, I also knew Eddie Trunk when he was nobody working in the local record store trying to get onto college radio. He’s done amazingly well for himself and glad to see he’s still doing it.

I have to disagree. Blackmore is the Guitarist. His sound is unmatched and his technique is incredible. The thing a bit Ritchie is his creativity and his ability to never repeat himself. He has created more Original music than any other guitarist. He has sold millions of albums of Acoustic Work. Steve is a great guitarist but he isn't Blackmore.
