Roger Gracie (born Roger Gracie Gomes;[b] 26 September, 1981) is a Brazilian former professional mixed martial artist (MMA) and 5th degree Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) practitioner and coach.[a]
The son of coral belt Mauricio Gomes and grandson of BJJ founder Carlos Gracie, Roger Gracie is one of jiu-jitsu's most decorated and accomplished athletes and considered by many as the greatest competitor in jiu-jitsu history.[6]
A member of both IBJJF Hall of Fame and ADCC Hall of Fame, Gracie won 10 IBJJF world championship titles across multiple weight classes, every year from 2004 to 2010, becoming the first competitor to win the open weight division 3 times. He is also a two-time European Champion, and a Pan Champion. Gracie is an ADCC Submission Fighting weight, absolute, and superfight champion, the only athlete to win gold in both his weight class and the open weight division with a 100% submission-rate. Gracie retired in 2017 after defeating then BJJ world champion Marcus Buchecha, leaving jiu-jitsu without a single submission defeat in his record.
Competing concurrently in MMA, Gracie is the 2016 One World Cruiserweight Champion, a former Strikeforce and UFC middleweight contender, holding at the time of his retirement in 2017 a professional record of 8-2.
Alexandre Cacareco Ferreira made his promotional debut against Vladimir Matyushenko on November 13, 2010 at UFC 122, losing via first round TKO.
Ferreira was expected to face Rousimar Palhares on March 3, 2011 at UFC Live: Sanchez vs. Kampmann.[3] However, on January 18, Ferreira was dismissed from Chute Boxe, his home training camp, for a "lack of commitment." Less than an hour later, it was reported that the fight had been cancelled due to Ferreira losing family and friends in the Brazilian floods, resulting in him being in "no condition to train or fight."[4] Palhares faced David Branch.[5]
Ferreira/Palhares was expected to take place on August 27, 2011 at UFC 134.[6] However, Ferreira was released from the organization and replaced by Dan Miller

It's always seemed odd to me that they count this as if Roger submitted Cacareco. The claim is that Roger is the only man to have submitted all 8 of his ADCC opponents in 2005. But a person retiring on the stool just feels a little different to me because this record implies that Roger forced everyone to tap via submission. Retiring on the stool in boxing is considered an RTD. Retiring on the stool in MMA is considered a TKO (corner stoppage). I guess retiring on the stool in BJJ is considered a submission. No disrespect intended, Roger is clearly the greatest all time IMO.
