Overdrive Custom Guitar Works is awesome. I broke the original trem arm in my ‘65 Strat days after buying it (I think it was ready to go when I received it). I sent the original broken arm to ODCGW, and they measured all the lengths and angles and made me an exact replica. How cool is that!?! I couldn’t believe the amazing level of service.

That's great. Did they make it out of the original chrome plated steel or stainless steel?
@nickangelo3283
@nickangelo3283 Жыл бұрын
@@millstap Stainless. Didn’t want to worry about breaking the arm off in the block again. Craig was awesome to work with and spent lots of time asking about my technique, how high I float the bridge, how I hold the bar, etc. All this for a pretty inexpensive thing, in the grand scheme. This type of personal service is a rarity these days.

@@nickangelo3283 That was my experience too and over the weekend on top of that. I told him I would put out the good word in my videos and he was thankful. I was wondering about the steel because Craig told me the Fender chrome plated steel would be harder. When I first installed his SS bar, I noticed that the base of the bar sticking up out of the bridge plate had a little flex and so I tried the steel Fender bar and it had slightly less flex so now I'm using it. They are both great. I like to have a backup.

It would be interesting to know if He remembers if Jimi always used .10 gauge strings and swapped the 1st string (.10) for a .09?

This is what's a bit strange to me. If he used the Fender Rock 'n' Pop as well as tuned down a semitone, and used all 5 springs..?!

Was Hendrix's middle pickup reverse wound, generally? I'm surprised how much difference it makes.
@millstap
@millstap Жыл бұрын
This question was never asked. Here are Parts 3 and 4. I'm sure they were never reverse wound because they were stock Fender pickups and Fender never did that in those days. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qmeclZ97iddjlc0, kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5maXouVfJV0ors. Roger talks for 3-1/2 hours so there is a lot of info. Look at Parts 1 & 2 also.

What exactly was the fuzz circuit Berkeley 1970 show where the fuzz sounded to have an octavio effect without the octave section? That’s my question. I know he was in standard tuning and also it seemed to pick up radio stations on hey joe and I know he used that fuzz shell with white knobs at Woodstock filmore both Berkeley’s and maybe la forum 70 and Newport I see two different pics of Newport he had two different.fuzzies I have the pics to prove it but Berkley 70 just sounded different and could roger produce some of these

Hi, may Roger knows why Jimi have had used an Teleneck at Newport. Is not that easy because the Teleneck is flat on the footend. Thanx OLLI
@millstap

I'll put it on the list. I think I have seen that photo. Yeah, the Tele neck has a square heel and the Strat a rounded heel so that would be a bad fit.

For Roger Mayer: What pickups available today does he think are closest to what Jimi would have used? THANKS!
@macarius8802
@macarius8802 Жыл бұрын
Lol! I just listened to the whole RM interview on guitar village... and I think I now know what he would say about the importance of pickups ... or lack thereof 😀 ... He adamantly says that the different single-coil strat. choices are overrated... weird because my experience tells me different... comparing my old SRV strat to my current EJ strat is a case in point. And now I want to swap my EJ bridge pickup for something with less treble maybe a custom '69 or a Dmarzio SF-1, which is why I asked the question in the first place because Jimi's treble sound was perfect (of course :)... If I lived in a big city I would simply go to a large guitar shop and compare the differences, but I don't so I have to rely on the internet...

I'd be fascinated to learn who did the nut filing and to what extent on any new guitars Jimi got. Presumably Jimi had to attend to that in the early days, so did he continue that?

This all really good stuff! and I did really like the guitar village interview. I did think for some reason that you would be taking part in an interview with Roger Mayer now that I would really like to see I think you would be great for this. Thanks for the shares links ect. I will be coming back here if/when I break my whammy bar again lol Thanks again for you contributions to the community of strat lovers and Hendrix enthusiasts. You've become somewhat of a scholar and spokesman for the Fender Stratocaster an anything related Jimi Hendrix I think what you do is very precious and continue to do really helps demystify the man the legend 'Hendrix' and what he was doing but never takes away from the fact he was a genius and too cool to boot and really 'out of sight' lol I have many questions for roger Mayer but ill try and think of a couple here. Is the custom string gauge pure nickel or something cant remember he recommends on the interview part 2 are they available to buy in a set somewhere ? also are the newer pedal range in the smaller enclosures ie voodoo blues ect. vastly different circuit wise and sound wise to the older vision series with the slightly larger enclosures as I have some of both but have been curious on that matter and have thought of swapping out some of the larger ones for the smaller enclosures of the same pedal type, like the Octavia for eg. Sorry for rambling also is there a reason that the voodoo boost which Roger on his website recommended last in the pedal chain of his pedal combo preferences is that discontinued and why? is it necessary to have the voodoo boost to get the best out of these pedals or are they more than adequate on their own? as many of them work great even for just a clean boost and are very versatile. I have also one of the older synergy series pedals with the voodoo 1 on the high band and the voodoo boost on the low band so you can mix the two together but wasn't ever sure about where to place that particular pedal in the chain as he says distortion normally comes before chorusing and modulation effects and echo delay last but as he says the voodoo boost should be last in the chain and this pedal has both effects so would love to know more about that. Maybe ask about stacking certain fuzzes and distortions I sometimes use the voodoo blues and voodoo tt combination but also have a voodoo axe fuzz but I really want the spitfire fuzz he also does a spitfire synergy pedal that also has a mongoose built in for more tonal options quite amazing and can go from very mild to insane amounts of gain. I would also love to know more about the new octavia with the handwound ferite transistor and if sounds much different to some of the other models like the vision one. I would really like to hear some of these Roger Mayer pedals cranked! as they were intended to be as there really isn't any great demos of this nature with RMs pedals like with your set up for eg I think that would be an epic video you cranking! up and blasting! stacking some or Rogers fuzzes distortions and experimenting. proof is in the pudding as they say. Kind regards and all the best to you

I would be able to talk to Roger for hours. I would probably wear him out. The same guy that did the first two interviews will be the interviewer I think. I'm not sure how long it will last. I'm sure he won't be able to answer everything. But, maybe we can coax him into a Part 4. I'm adding your questions to the list. I'm sure Roger would probably rather answer questions about his own pedals since he is still selling them and he hand delivers them to Guitar Village. I didn't realize Roger had so many effects. I need to check out his website. That would be a real challenge to try all of the combinations you mention. Maybe some day.
