So refreshing to hear an articulate clear-thinking academic seemingly without an agenda to prove which is contrary to reason.

Scruton speaks so much sense. I am an atheist but recognize he speaks much sense about our Judaeochristian heritage and how dangerous the threat from Islam is.Islamism is a very real threat and we ignore Scrutons warnings at our peril.

Why Islam is such a danger is because it is really an ideology that has a global domination agenda and it is this that marks it out as purely an ideology and not what it pretends to be and that is a religion.

I'm not sure the people commenting understand precisely what scruton is saying. People still can't seem to distinguish wahhabism from the majority of islamic thought and teachings. Scruton himself confuses this point several times, perpetuating the media bias while ignoring the rampant financial support of saudi arabia by europe and the US. He brings up the change in direction but never brings up how or why wahhabism is now such a danger to islam itself, but equates it with islam and thus confusing everyone into thinking islam is a threat to "secularism".
@flat5sharp117 жыл бұрын
I do wish this interviewer would shut up and allow Scruton to finish his trains of thought.
@gre86 жыл бұрын
Indeed. So many thoughts left unfinished in this interview. In a conversation between the two it wouldn't be an issue, but it is an interview, for God's sake. Unfortunately, also, he adds rather little to the conversation, with anedoctes or facts that don't have a whole lot of relevance to the conversation. I believe the interviewe is well intentioned and perhaps interviewing in english made him more nervous than he should but, in this case, it was to the detriment of the interview.

I wondered if anyone knew anything more about this discussion. Who is the interlocuto? He's very well-informed and clever, and gently pushes Scruton on points he disagrees with so as to encourage greater discussion and knowledge. Where did you find it ?
@foadghavami20042 жыл бұрын
The interviewer tries to make their danger minimal and ignorable, but Sir Roger righteously and very politely resists and gives his views, even at the end the guy sarcastically (in a point) says so “small is beautiful” and response was great! Being cautious, observant, worried of the primitive invasions does not mean small is beautiful, it means those pre historical ideas should start learning and adopting to modern time or be suppressed.

I loved the discussion until 23:00, where it says Khayyam and Rumi (Molavi) and copies of 1001 nights are "forbidden" in Iran 😂😂 As an Iranian (academic) who travels in and out of Iran multiple times a year, I assure you that's a total fabrication. Khayyam (the atheist poet, and mathematician, among other things) is loved by the public; his books are freely available in any normal bookstore ... so are the copies of 100 nights. I have to say "wow" ... just google it before you interview a philosopher of Roger Scruton's caliber.

He beats around the bush, and should really state that an belief system is examined at its foundation, with Christianity it is the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, whereas with the Koran its the life and quotes of mohammed. In both cases the actions of the men, the lives they led, were exemplary of what followed and became a society..of believers. Mohammed's life according to the koran and hadith was one of violence, murder, assasinations, raids, selling women into slavery etc, including marrying a child bride, killing the Jews of Medina etc...now the major problem is that people need to read the books for themselves, examine the lives of the founders themselves.
