I thought The Final Cut had amazing production. Even with Rick’s keyboard work being missed, the drums and guitar sounds crisp, the mix sounds clean, and I love how the sound effects are utilized.

Interesting take & view on the production of that album, Roger - very... songwriter-ish, so to speak. Totally understand what you mean, but to me ans for my taste, the production of The Final Cut is flawless. From a Floydian sonic history standpoint, despite missing Rick's legendary keyboard work it sounds like the culmination of many things and trends the band outlined or pioneered: it's ambiental, immersive, startling, touching, emotional, engaging, outspoken, political and personal and relatable. And it sounds HUGE. The drums and guitar solos in "Fletcher Memorial Home" and "The Final Cut" are thunderously powerful, like an oversized rhino breaking down the Hoover dam. And those parts you mention, in "Your Possible Pasts", are what I play in the studio to explain the power of dynamics in rock... or to startle the unwary passenger in my car. 💥👌🏼

The final cut sounds like Roger's first solo album with the assistance of Gilmour and Mason. Sorry, but there is no real Pink Floyd sound to me without Wright's iconic and unique keyboard play, whether he was writing songs or not. Brought so much sensitivity and texture to the sound. However when he did (like his solo work) I think it was also remarkable.

And luckily almost all the album you sand it yourself! I consider your voice much heartfelt, the way more sincere than Dave’s! I’d really want someday to hear this masterpiece live! It’s so sad you never played it live in the whole version! As the Amused to death work! Thank you, dear Roger, for all! P.S. I have a question… but I’m so impressed about this one… it’ll next comment

It used to be my favorite but I realized it was too depressing and messed with my psyche. However the song "The FInal Cut" from that album is still a gem. Echoes, Shine on you crazy diamond, comfortably numb, Welcome to the Machine, Yet another Movie, Time, Things left unsaid, and Learning to fly are my go to PF songs. Side note: Roger Waters song the powers that be is kinda cool too

I always thought it was the one that needed to be a double album. The vibe is great and I love the way it sounds but in terms of the overall story there's just so much crammed into 40 minutes and I think it needs some room to breathe thematically
@thisisnotachannel
@thisisnotachannel Ай бұрын
@@solarwalkman It was originally conceived as a double album... which means there are probably tracks in the can which have never been released. I suggested Radio Kaos mostly for this reason... imagine a re-release of Radio Kaos... but of the actual, originally planned DOUBLE ALBUM... with all the missing bits and pieces finally added to the mix, and the 80's synth and "pop sensibilities" removed? Could make a really good album into an all time great!

As odd as it may be for some, at aged 17 I heard The Final Cut album and it became my favourite Pink Floyd record over many years thereafter. To this day, it's my go-to record whenever I add a new bit of kit or make some other change to my audio setup, as I know and love every moment of that record. It's a stunning album, and it blew the bloody doors off the possibilities that a rock album could be. At the risk of sounding parochial here, it's just about the last of the great English rock albums, and it talks about my homeland in an unshowy but passionate way that I've never heard captured before or since. I've remained a fan particularly of Roger ever since then, including his version of Pink Floyd, which is the definitive one if the category is outstanding english rock bands, and own all the albums (including one of the mega-set The Wall copies limited to 1500) and have attended at least once to a concert on each of his tours ever since - including Ca Ira which I travelled to Poznan for. So I hope that The Final Cut stays pretty much the same!! I personally think that Animals is ripe for reexamination - there's much on there that could be added to lyrically, as well as being thematically updated, and I can find some of the musical longueurs at times a little boring.

@@flyk3n He is a better songwriter than David but Gilmour is a far better musician. Since the split I don’t like Roger’s solo albums because the songs are poor and too political. By contrast Gilmour’s albums are better with Rattle that Lock album outstanding. I saw Waters in concert recently and it was good apart from his foul mouthed political tirade. Roger has written some wonderful Floyd songs However he opened the concert with Comfortably Numb with no guitar solo!!!

@@andrewmorgan302 At this point you should expect a Waters concert to be heavily politically driven. That's just who he is and always has been. There's really something to be said here, Roger. There's a newer band called Larkin Poe that plays stripped down versions of rock classics and their own original songs usually with an acoustic guitar, lap steel guitar (sometimes a dobro is substituted), and vocals only. They've played a cover of Wish You Were Here this way on KZbin. The lyrics are more meaningful and the emotions are deeper this way. I wish you and your family a Happy Christmas. 👍💖🎸😎

So glad to hear a REAL answer. I was afraid he was going to say something like, "I'm doing to do a Wall or WYWH redux next". Instead, doing a remix of TFC (similar to Animals) not only seems reasonable, but also a good idea after he describes the drums in "Your Possible Pasts". Now I can't unhear it.

I actually agree with Roger on this one (I did a whole review of The Final Cut). Roger, you need to know when to put down the pencil. Star Wars didn't need to have CGI dewbacks to 'fix it'. Final Cut is a masterpiece and still one of my favorite albums of all time. You're too close to it and the industry. It came out at a time when CDs and digital media were new and the dynamic range was part of the experience. It WASN'T one level of loudness. That range allowed it to go from melancholy to rage and back. I still sweat through the end of Hero's Return and down into the subtlety of Gunner's Dream: "a place to stay, enough to eat..." Listening to it now. It's perfect.

K.A.O.S. needs different production. Also, it could be an appropriate tribute to your friend Jim Ladd, who has just sadly passed away. Please, leave the Pink Floyd albums alone, as they are. They don't need any tinkering. They are great, timeless statements, artifacts of your human spirit, Roger, and Dave's, Nick's and Richard's.

I can't stand to have negativity be the top response here. The Final Cut is an emotional masterpiece. The writing is some of the most personal Roger has ever done, yet the album catches h e double hockey sticks because of all the behind the scenes stuff that shouldn't really matter. It contains the last line Pink Floyd ever produced together and maybe the most powerful. Ashes and Diamonds. Foe and Friend. We were all equal, in the end. It is so on purpose from top to bottom. The dissolution of childhood friendship. It is a goodbye letter to us and to his father. I've never understood the hate it gets.

Final Cut has always been a favorite of mine. But now I want to hear a remake just as you've described here!

Post war dreams and possible pasts were the first two songs I heard from Pink Floyd in mid 80's. And those exact theatrical parts where drums first started were the exact reason why I fell in love with Pink Floyd 😊

Man, the drumming on Your Possible Pasts is epic! In fact, it’s one of my favourite PF albums and is criminally underrated.

Es realmente muy alta en volumen esa parte. Remarca el dramatismo con un sacudón, pero quizás sacarlo refuerce una tensión. Ojalá lo hagan.

I always thought Final Cut was all about those dynamics. That's what makes it so special to me. The dynamic range is insane and it's part of what makes it so engaging and emotional.

Remake Music From The Body.😂 Love your music/lyrics with PF and your solo stuff. Amused To Death is awesome. So many great songs, if I had to pick one as best it would probably be Time, or Shine On pts 1 through 9, or Mother, or Dogs, or Hey You, or When The Tigers Broke Free, or We Were Watching TV, or Home, or.....

Hey, Roger. Thank you for the new recordings. You have enriched the world and our consciousness with your art and I'm so glad that you made this album; thank you. Like all of us, you are a deeply flawed and complex human being and I love you and have done most of my life (I'm nearly your age). I'm fine with people cricising you, your views, your art, your abilities - being critical of others is a negative trait we all share. I'm not fine with anyone cricising your choice as an artist to release a piece of work. That's fascism. So, rerecord everything mate. All of it. Fuck 'em all. Please, continue to expose yourself in ways that other people can actually understand. "Mother means comfort to me," is meaningless. The song "Mother" however makes me ball my eyes out every time I hear it. These days it makes me cry because my own mother passed a long time ago and it makes me remember her, but when I was younger I cried more because I understood you, I felt you. For a moment I really saw through your eyes, felt with your heart. I gained a deep understanding into another human being and an abiding love for them because of this connection. Not everybody feels that way about that song. I've even met a couple of people who didn't like it at all - it did nothing for them; they found it mildly annoying (which is great too). I love that you've rerecorded and performed it on youtube. I'm blown away by that. If I were to play that song, I'd usually chose to play the original, because after 50 years I can't change that easily, but I've seen you perform that song live so many times that I'm happy to hear an alternative version once in a while. The criticism you've received for this is unwarranted and seems to come from online karens who don't even understand what art is and who are barely conscious because of that. I have a 10 year old daughter, and even she has seen you performing (Hyde Park). I take her to as many museums and galleries as possible, as much live music, as much performance art, theater, and anything else, as I find out about. I teach her as much about art as I can, because I think it's the only way humans ever truly communicate anything important. I think the entire purpose of society is to produce deeply flawed, complex, beautiful artists like you who finally allow us to understand each other, so that's what I'm teaching her to understand. Most of the people cricising you have no idea what art is, what its for, and what it does to us as a species. Fuck 'em. Rerecord everything. Thank you.

The Final cut is one of the if not "THE" favourite album is mine. I memorized whole album of the Final cut, The wall, Dark side, Wish you were here, Pros & cons & of course Amused to death. ... I knew it's gonna happened & I waited for the right moment finally when I was 17 Amused to death in 1992 & in a fateful midnight The Final cut & Dark side got me to Pink Floyd & Roger waters. .. never bothered to listen to other Pink floyd albums after the final cut instead always cherished Roger's solos. .. 1:05 it was perfect as it is in my humble opinion but who knows what'd be like if it otherwise.
