I agree with you. I only learnt of him dying by accident. I was very sad that there had been no mention of him. I think I saw him live at the Radio Show Earls Court when I was quite young. RIP to a very talented man.

This tune is actually Elizabethan Serenade, composed by Ronald Binge. Binge also composed Sailing By, which is used by the BBC as the theme tune to introduce their late night shipping weather forecast. In addition, Binge was the arranger for Mantovani and developed the "cascading strings" effect.

You are exactly right, of course. This single-song video has been clipped from the video of the whole gig, which can be found elsewhere on YT, and in the comments under which I have made the same correction you did. Unfortunately, there are vast numbers of people who either don't know the difference between the tunes and don't care, or are actively trying to destroy Whittaker's reputation (the posters of these videos) or alternatively are trying to deceive Whittaker's fans about his circumstances, as with the admin of the Facebook group run in his name.

I consider myself so very fortunate to have seen him in concert many times. Some of the best were at evening performaces at an outdoor theater north of Detroit and listening to him whistle the Skye Boat song while looking up at the stars.

This is the Elizabethan Serenade. i have an instrumental version of this tune. Mexican Whistler ( an entirely different tune) was released by Roger Whitacker in the year 1968!

Ilza Maria Braga, você disse tudo, o Roger é um dos maiores cantores, compositores e músicos do mundo, ele é do Kenya e compôs uma das músicas mais lindas, para o festival Internacional da canção, em 1969 no Rio de Janeiro" New World in the Morning" foi no Maracanãzinho, e o jurado naquela noite, foi muito sacana. A plateia toda aplaudiu em pé, solicitando o primeiro lugar mas o jurado recolocou em sexto lugar, e ele com toda a sua humildade, agradeceu muito. Eu estava lá, se vc puder localiza essa música, pois ele a compôs para nós Brasileiros, muito embora interpretada em Inglês. Um abraço.
