@@robmarshall956 I agree on that too. Joining in lol. Hoping for a big one this year. Have not caught a fish here in NC USA over 4 pounds. There are some beasts at Wrightsville beach. But I have yet to catch one. I am new to saltwater. Been a freshwater fisherman half my life. Totally different. I had high hopes moving down here but have been humbled.

Is there any way you could highlight where your cast lands sometimes? Your descriptions are pretty good, but it'd be handy to know where you're hitting the water. Also, could you include some more info on reading beaches and identifying features. I discovered your videos a couple of months ago and have tried some beaches, but struggle compared to jetty fishing. Thank you

That's a master's class topic called "reading a beach" There are several good videos on KZbin discussing this subject, some with whiteboard drawings or a drone shot with diagrams overlaid. Most will suggest going to your chosen fishing area at low tide and look for the channels, holes and troughs. These will be the deeper areas where fish accumulate during high tide on sand beaches.

Great video Roger! Yep the humble pillie is the true all round saltwater bait ! I stopped using the ones from tackle shops and petrol stations after a young lady fisho from Botany Bay showed the difference in quality between them and food grade ones bought from a fish market on her channel - sure a bit more expensive and sometimes harder to get but boy didn’t my catch rate skyrocket! It’s a bit like using a frozen bait prawn vs a live one - you put the effort in to source top quality bait you will reap the rewards !

Awesome technique! I am from California and does a fair bit of surf fishing. I usually use shrimp or squid for bait, which seems more effective than using our local small fish (smelt, senorita, etc.). I will try your rigging technique and see if using fish for bait is equally effective. Thanks a lot for sharing!

Awesome Video again Roger - thoroughly enjoyed it and always learnt a new thing or 2 from you each time. Thank you again for taking the time to return my call on your break during boxing day - much much appreciated. Had a great time with the kids collecting nippers at Bayview - memories that will last for a long time. Pity didn't managed to convert the baits into some decent fishes but we have aplenty of small ones. The younger one also outshone me in the tally as well 😃 Circumstance was not ideal with the low tide and plenty of wind but at least we all gave it a crack. Will keeping following you from afar down here in Melbourne and will touch base again when we head up north again 👍🙏👍🙏

Good old Pilchard (Sardine), very good bait! 👍 I’ve been using your “Deadly Rig” with great success. Just a word of warning with the 2 hook scenario; “Be careful when removing one of the hooks, the other one might get you!” What happened to me last time I went for a night- fish… I caught a Banjo shark; it was hooked with the small (stinger) hook. While I was removing the hook from its mouth, it thrashed around causing the other lager hook to cut a 1cm laceration on the side of my finger! Man, I called that shark some names, it never heard before! 🤬

Thanks for this informative video Roger, as always you show you're a very experienced fisherman. I have a question if you wouldn't mind, are the pillies you used in this video straight from the freezer, or have they been salted? your bait stays on the hook whereas mine always seem to be either taken or shaken loose in the surf. Cheers Pete

I've started salting bait when I have left over bait still in good condition. I've had very good luck with it. Works for shrimp, squid and fish but I fillet the fish first. Then you can cut strips with a pair of scissors. I'm sure it would be fine to cut fish into chunks as well but haven't tried it yet.
