I have not tried it on Granite, so cannot give a qualified answer. Putting that on the to-do list for in the future.

I have a creality 5w, I want to hook up a rotary roller. Do you know if this is a possibility? Thank you for being a valuable resource for beginners!
@rogersshop Жыл бұрын
I have no experience with a Creality laser, but generally, the roller connects to the Y axis after disconnecting the Y axis stepper motor. Don't expect any help from Creality tech support. I know. I have several Creality 3D printers. Fortunately, I know how to work on them!

When engraving slate, do you still have to paint it? I'm a newbie so forgive my question.
@rogersshop7 ай бұрын
No. Some precoat with shellac or clear lacquer first. I clear coat afterwards.

Hay Thanks for the Video and your time. I have a question? Can you use a rotary tool with this machine?
@rogersshop2 жыл бұрын
Yes. The RA2 made by xTool would work.

Roger thank you for your videos they have been a great help. Earlier this year I purchased my first laser engraver the Ray5. I am very happy with the performance and build quality. My question is how much is the 10 watt upgrade module? I looked on their website and could not find any info or pricing. In your opinion do you think the upgrade would be worth it depending on the price of course? Thanks in advance.
@rogersshop2 жыл бұрын
Good question! Longer sent me the 10 watt module since I already had the Ray 5 with a 5 watt module to demonstrate and review. I have asked about the availability of just the 10 watt module, but have not received a reply yet. Since this 10 watt version just launched on July 1, they may not be ready yet with their website. A 10 watt over a 5 watt can be a time saver. Depends on what you are doing

@@rogersshop Is 1750mm/minute the same as 105000mm/second? isn't it too fast? I apologize for my ignorance. you didn't use paints or sprays on the tile and slate?
@rogersshop Жыл бұрын
@@brunoferro5440 Ceramic tiles are coated with white Rustoleum paint, which is then stripped after etching. Slate is not coated. This is 10 watt laser. 1750 mm/min is about 30mm/sec.

I have tried to engrave a tile with designs. It’s a gray ish color using longer ray5 20w but nothing showed up. The image was too light hardly noticeable. Any advice please? I appreciate it. Thank you

Did you coat the tile with white paint first?
@nestorma98955 ай бұрын
@@rogersshop no. Nothing. The tiles I bought are glossy light gray. And another ones look like dark gray wood grain kinda. I did not add anything.
@rogersshop5 ай бұрын
@@nestorma9895 You need to coat the tile first with a high content titanium dioxide paint such as Rustoleum matte white. Engrave, then remove the paint with acetone. Makes a nice, dark black engrave. Examples: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qXTTnayfhctka68

What is the range for your test burn chart for ceramic tiles? Thank you!

10%-100%. Please note this is not my creation.

Why paint it white? What is the tile's original color?
@rogersshop9 ай бұрын
Original tile color is white. The paint contains titanium dioxide and is necessary for the engraving. Engraving a bare ceramic tile with a diode laser will not work. Nothing will appear. this is commonly known as the Norton White Tile method.
@mrlease9 ай бұрын
Would black tempura paint work just as well? That's what I use to etch glass.
@rogersshop9 ай бұрын
@@mrlease No. This requires titanium dioxide, which is the primary pigment in white paint. Black has none.

Hi Roger, When checking out the Longer Ray 5 on their website I noticed they have an Air Assist to go with this laser cutter, would you recommend I purchase that with this Laser?
@rogersshop2 жыл бұрын
If you intend to do any cutting, then an air assist is a big plus. For engraving on wood, it will reduce the scorching around edges (depending on the wood type).

@@rogersshop Thank you so much for your vids I have learned so much - and because of the cost of this Laser I am going to purchase it with air assist honey comb, glasses. I did see they show a roller but they don't have that on their website for purchase. Can you tell us what we need to buy and how to set this laser cutter up to do that. THANK YOU!

@@dianahegseth6279 My preference for a roller would be the RA2 from xTool: amzn.to/3NSbRw6 This has got to be the most versatile one out there and it operates from the Y axis stepper motor cable. It comes with adapter cables to mate it up.
