I miss Mr. O'Toole dearly. -No I've never met him or seen him in person. I miss him being Alive, miss the 1970s when I used to wonder when he was going to appear in a film next. Miss being Fascinated by his trademark eccentricities and signature style in products like Lord Jim, Murphy's War, etc. A HUGE PIECE OF CINEMATIC and THEATRICAL TALENT, A HUGE PIECE OF OUR NOSTALGIA AND ZEITGEIST DIED when he passed. There will BE no compensation, replacement, substitute. Amen. God bless your Soul, sir. You are Loved and sorely missed.

Bloody wonderful. If this were to be made into a bigger, larger budgeted movie these days, they would rob it of all the cultural sensibility that is encapsulated into this remarkable television film. O’Toole, Sim and the entire cast are terrific.

Wonderful, in every way. Peter O'Toole is always mesmerising in any role, and here we have the added pleasure of actors Sir John Standing, Dame Maureen Lipman, Harold Pinter and others. Chris Gunning's music is equally compelling. Peter O'Toole said this was one of his favourite roles. Thank you for posting.

A lot of this movie doesn’t make any sense. He is thrown off a cliff and doesn’t have any broken bones. He lucks out and finds a German who is willing to risk his life helping him. A whiskey flask saved his life. Later he hides under ground and stays remarkably clean. Still I liked watching O’Toole in the part. Thanks for uploading it.

G'day DDF, This is in my top 20 British Films List. Simply can't fathom those who dislike it. They've forgotten it's a piece of fiction and a damn good to boot! John Standing and Alistair Sim were never in a bad film. There's another, different, but excellent film about a shooter who misses... 'The Killer' it's on one of the streaming platforms now. Well worth a look. Cheers, Bill H.

@@snowflakemelter1172G'day Snow, Oh, I'm sorry. Maybe I should take your word over Geoffery Household who, in 1939, wrote this story. I'll try to forget he was one of the best playwrights and authors in English history. I'll have to apologise for the fact it has no multi-million dollar CGI, probably because the computers that do that hadn't been invented in 1976. But it was directed by Clive Donner who did make a CGI-packed Superman film; perhaps more your speed. Oh, yes, I'll forget that I'm one of a large number of military historians who 'stupidly' agree with the facts that this 'crap' plot is almost unanimously thought to have inspired just one of the many, real life, attempts to kill Hitler and/or Stalin. A plan to kill Hitler had been knocking around since late 1940. Finally, landing on the desk of a senior SOE operative. It's clear that the SOE officer who came up with 'Operation Foxley'; had read, and re-read, Household's book. True, ‘Op. Foxley’ was called off as Churchill didn't want to turn Hitler into a martyr while the Nazis were doing well. After D-Day there was no point in the Allies trying to kill him. Various Germans gave it a good try though. Frederic Raphael's screenplay is good as it sticks faithfully to the book but don't take my word for it. In 2007 Peter O'Toole said, not for the first time, that out of all the films he made 'Rogue Male' was his favourite. As to 'production standards' you might be misinformed. All in all this film did really well considering it was only ever shown in the UK as the, small budget, made for TV film it was. To have a cinema release in the UK meant the cast and crew would have to be paid on a much higher rate. Everywhere else it got a cinema release and then was screened several times on TV. It’s box office and TV screening figures tell a different story to your opinion, of which you are perfectly entitled. Cheers, Bill H.

For someone who grew up watching this type of film in the late 70s and early 80s it was very enjoyable, similar in style to ''The 39 steps'' with Robert Powell. For someone who in the meantime knows Germany very well, the big mistake in the storyline is that the opening scene shows Adolf at his villa in the Berchtesgadener Land in Bavaria, close to Austria, a long long way from any port in Germany, about 800 miles away. Then in the inn where he meets the English sailors it's clear from the dress of the serving wench that he is still in Bavaria so no he didn't travel to the North of Germany off-camera.

I very nearly watched this again already. Really is my "cup of tea". The character of these people is very genuine and convincing, such that I was seething with anger at the nazi sympathiser, Major Quive Smith following a particular event. I believe this was done as a movie for British TV originally. I read that he said he wanted to do a remake of his and his then wife of their favorite movie "Man Hunt". I like this version but think that if it was produced and filmed as a true movie it could have been better. Man Hunt is one of my favorites also and Peter O"Toole was one of my favorite actors. So many of the Greats are gone now but they left their legacy on film.
