Hey Coop, hows the bar after 2 years? I’m thinking about picking these up for my main bar.
@beck42185 жыл бұрын
Rogue needs to use 17-4 stainless for the bar. Ivanko uses 17-4 for the bar and 304 stainless for the sleeves. The only way to get over 210K PSI is with 17-4. 304 is a lot softer than carbon steel sleeves with hard chrome. I have the Ivanko SS PB (29mm) as I wanted the limited edition that has the heat-treated/unpolished bar. It's sick, but jewelry.

No knurling is "cut" into the barbell. Knurling is always done on a lathe, using a hardened steel roller both squeezing and pressing against the material to be knurled. The harder steel literally pushes the softer metal of the barbell out of the way in favor of the pattern that is on the roller. There are two rollers, with a diagonal pattern. They are opposites so when they cross over one-another's pattern it ends up in a series of diamonds. Pushing the material out of the way to form the pattern actually increases the diameter of the bar itself very slightly as well. Rogue simply uses better machines and tooling, and puts more effort into insuring the knurling comes out in a deep consistent pattern.
@GarageGymReviews6 жыл бұрын
"Cut" is simply an easier way for me to say what you just said in a paragraph. I appreciate your knowledge on the subject, however.

@gheedra27084 жыл бұрын
martyjanderson It's really just a matter of preference. If someone wants a stiffer, thicker barbell, go with Rogue. If someone wants a thinner, whippier barbell, go with a Texas bar. If you use bumber plates, the thinner collars on the Rogue bars are going to give you more room for the weight. If you use steel or cast iron plates, a Texas bar is perfectly fine, and due to the bigger collars, has a significantly less probability of smacking the plates against the side of your rack when initiating the walk out for a squat.

based on what I've read the only difference is the increased durability of the stainless steel and the way it feels in the hand, though Cerakote will hold up great too, comes down to whether you want to spend the extra $100 or so for a different look/feel and better rust resistance

Can you test the ATX V4A Power Bar Stainless Steel? Its quit cheap for a SS Bar and i think its quit good. Dont have many bars to compare it with but the ones in my gym definetly cant keep up with it. Would be awesome to get your opinion on it!
@ytano57823 жыл бұрын
I‘m from germany and tested a lot of ATX bars in the gyms. Like every ATX bar, they sound good only on the paper. The Ohio has a quite good spin for a bar with bushings. I do olympic lifts with the Ohio, but not with the V4A. And on the Ohio I have a better grip during pulls. After 2-3 years (w/o maintenance in a crossfit box, not home gym) the surface of the V4A feels... it is difficult to describe... not smooth? It is not rusty, but on some spots it feels a little bit rough. Most of the ATX stuff is really good: racks/rigs, steel/bumper plates, accessory’s like land mines, weight pins etc. But I would avoid ATX for barbells. At the end the difference is 100€. You will use a bar over decades and in this case this price difference shouldn’t matter. At the end, you not only pay for the name. Unfortunately Eleiko is the only high quality barbell manufacturer in EU. Our sport friends from US have much more options.

Stainless steel MAY not always be a better bargain. Back in the 90's when I was an engineer, I did some testing on SS handles for an outdoor breaker. Did a simulated accelerated seawater test on several handles. All but 1 showed a lot of corrosion after only 1 week. Maybe SS technology has gotten better since then, but I always remember that test.

Ohio power bar is good. But I wouldn't say that it is better than the Texas Power bar. A lot of powerlifters to this day still go for the Texas bar. Worlds heaviest deadlift by Eddie Hall was on a Texas deadlift bar. He still use it for training today after a lot of guys moved more than 400kgs a couple of times. With that said, Rogue makes great barbells, but Texas had made good barbells since the 80s and they are still in the business, and also some lifters first choice. Which I guess means a lot. By the way man try to make a review of Rogue new Thor bar. Take care

Good question. The feeling of stainless steel is better due to it being raw steel, however, Cerakote has awesome corrosion resistance and looks really cool. That said, I would like to see how the Cerakote bars look after 5 years before giving them the edge; so I'd say Stainless Steel reigns supreme.

Hey coop, I love you’re channel and need some help. I am in the market for an all purpose barbell for mostly high rep Work. I think I’m between the Ohio bar stainless steel, and the 2.0 . I live in the desert and I’m not really worried about corrosion. I only use iron plates. I’ve heard the black cerecote is very unforgiving with iron plates. I really like the cerekote bar with the black sleeves and since I primarily lift alone I thought it would be fine. It IS odd only 2 manufacturers offer SS shaft/sleeve bars. Ivanko and Vulcan (Absolute PWR bar). Odd Rogue doesn't have one being that they put out so many versions of the OHIO crossfit and pwr bars. As for feel (knurl)...bare steel or SS...SS if you know you're lazy and won't be doing regular bar maintainance. And willing to pay more than double. Really, bare steel is all any one really needs. Eleiko''s Competition PWR bar is only offered in bare steel for a reason. :) All these other finishes...cash grabs IMHO.

Is it customary to hold your breath during repetitions of the deadlift? It doesn't seem good.
@billiamfallace29385 жыл бұрын
Yes. Many perform what's called a valsalva maneuver, which is basically taking a deep breath and then clenching your abdomen. It allows much better support of the core, reducing the likelihood of the lower back giving out. It does, however, drastically fluctuate blood pressure, with a sharp spike in heart chamber pressure, during the exercise. However, since when did us lifters care about long term health.

This is a knurling tool: www.kodiaktooling.com/p/451/dorian-knurling-tooling-from-kodiak The tool is held in place while the work piece (the bar in this instance) is spun on a lathe, the knurling tool is then pressed into the work piece and moved lengthways along it at a constant rate. The pressure at which the knurling tool is pressed into the bar and speed at which it is moved along the length of the bar determine the resulting knurling pattern/quality.
